I'm going to say something controversial. I still like Tekken 8. It's broken and dumb but it's still fun. That said, releasing one of if not the most hated Tekken characters of all time at this point in the game's turbulent life is some really bizarro showmanship.

Sure, he's probably been in the making for some time, but it honestly would have been better if they'd just have quietly scrapped him and postponed the DLC for another few months. Nobody wants this fucker.

First of all matches load faster than T8 which surprised me as I remember this game had quite long load times (keep in mind I had it on PS3 physical back then). It still looks pretty good, at least on my OLED. The game is quite dark and it works out here. Some stages like the heliplatform look fine, others like that water stage look oversaturated. T5 DR on PS3 does look more crisp, but that one is native 1080p.

Without motion blur the jaggies are reduced quite a bit and I feel the game is more responsive. I can do electrics easier here than in T8 on PS5 regardless. It just plays very well. The only gimmick is Rage, which happens at the final sliver of health. And the Bound mechanic I don't mind that much. There is also Scenario campaign which I've always enjoyed to be honest. I saw it as a bigger, grander Force mode. Its fun to blast through, earn cash and find customization items. Nothing here is behind a paywall and T6 honestly had a quite robust customization mode to begin with. Looking at the SP content 7 and 8 delivered, no way Scenario Campaign was worse.

The reason I reverted back to T6 is because of the sentiments around T8. There are lots of videos about players abandoning 8 for the older games right now. And they sort of get newfound appreciation with it. I can tell you I think it holds merit. T6 is a FAR better game than T8 and probably 7 also. I enjoy it more for sure.

Tekken 6 on Xbox is 720p native without motion blur as opposed to default 576p. Some stages in Dark Resurrection on PS3 also run at a lower resolution than 1080p with some obnoxious blurring. Even despite the slightly lower resolution the image quality and consistent resolution of Tekken 6 is superior. Honestly, given the low fidelity assets in Dark Resurrection the added sharpness makes it look worse than 480p Tekken 5 on PS2 using progressive scan. The PS2 version also had stages masterfully crafted to hide the lower fidelity assets using various effects. Not the case with this revision.
Tekken 8 has been a shit show since the Genmaji Temple was revealed to be separate from the season pass. Adding the FF douche threw away a lot of goodwill and season 2 changes made the game dull. Sad state of affairs considering how fun the game was at launch.

It's still a pretty good time for single player, imo. It's less so for competitive play at the moment but I think they can still fix it.

Baby step into right direction...
They need to nerf plus frames, heat smash and combo length.
And I don't understand why don't they just reduce all chip dmg to 1 or 2. Maybe same amount as Tekken 7 2D characters .
 
Fahkumram landed with near-universal rejection but I didn't expect them to throw us a bone for the next character this soon. It's rare to see a company panic this openly.

I still maintain that it'd be in their best interests if they had just scrapped Fahkumram. Nobody will buy him, and on the rare occasions he shows up, nobody will rematch him. Huge waste of everybody's time.

It's actually staggering how much they're unable to read the room. People would have been legit hyped for Bruce. But no, instead they had to go for Murray's donut steel self-insert, broken ass, talentless-kid-with-twenty-pens-and-one-sheet-of-paper design the community firmly said no to years ago.
 
Seems like another useless update. Random bear colors and classic Dragunov costume are now purchasable in the shop with Tekken coins and Karate Kid Legends advertisements are all over.

Man. This game is seriously dog shit. I'm already at the point where I get no enjoyment out of winning and no salt out of losing. I was watching the combo breaker top 8 and even super high level play just looks stupid.

The first Tekken in a very long time where Yoshi is actually good and the game stinks.

I really hope the new VF is good.

This patch was a slap on the wrist.

They don't want to go away from the Tekken 8 philosophy of 50/50s for every character.
 
Devil Jin fans rejoice. Despite the drag of Pac and Fahk anti-hype the balance changes are... a step in the right direction. Too bad they are going on vacation with the August update due to "competitive scene" and the game still needs a lot of work despite them thinking they are done.

Wow it took these idiots one year and a half to make Rage Arts minus -18 instead of 15. Something that should've been adjusted in the first week of release. They are too stupid to ever fix all the obnoxious effects, the never ending combos and generally dull pace of the game.
