Tencent has acquired approximately 37 percent of the shares of Wuthering Waves developer Kuro Games from Hero Entertainment, and now holds a 51.4 percent controlling stake in the company. Tencent is now also the only external shareholder of Kuro Games.

In an internal memo, Kuro Games said that while Tencent’s shares now surpass those held by Kuro Games itself, Tencent has assured the company that its strategy of independent operations will remain unchanged, similarly to how Tencent operates with subsidiaries Riot Games and Supercell.

Kuro Games said that it believe the change will create a more stable external environment for the company and support its long-term strategy of independent operations.

If you don’t know who Tencent games is you haven’t been paying attention to the sector. They are one of if not the biggest publishers / owners of gaming IP’s around. CHINA based

Tencent, the world's largest video game company and operator of the WeChat messaging platform, reported revenue of 161.12 billion yuan ($22.5 billion) for the second quarter ended June 30. Analysts had expected 160.77 billion yuan, according to LSEG data.

Btw, Kuro Games are also the devs behind Punishing Gray Raven, a stylish hack and slash for mobile and PC. I'd say that out of all the CN devs that make Gacha games they're some of the best talent wise, so hopefully nothing changes in the long term now that they're under Tencent control.

I'm more of a tourist, regarding all these gacha shenanigans, but it's interesting to have Tencent pursuing Wuthering Waves. I guess they see enough potential in this to at least be able to survive next to Genshin. It's even more interesting because, as far as I understand it, Tencent and Mihoyo kinda hate each other (tencent being the bad guy) and tencent is much more affiliated with the Government than mihoyo is. So obviously the chinese would have an interest in dethroning Genshin.

it's very much possible that most of what I just said is either plainly false or long outdated, since I don't keep up with the whole industry as much as I'd like.
