This is why I didn't bite this time around. our typical road trip destinations tend to be in the 180-300 mile range (Oregon, Canada, Eastern Washington and more) and my fear is that even with the big battery, I don't have any contingency plans should I run dry, and I can only stay at places where I can feasibly charge when I get there.

Have you looked at plugshare.com and Tesla's interactive map? Tesla's map shows current and planned SuperCharger stations as well as "destination chargers" which are typically at hotels. Plugshare will show you those plus other charger types, and you can get adapters for some of them (like J1227) for Teslas.

There may already be more charging opportunities than you think.

You'll get used to it, felt the same, but have been really focussing on Tesla news the last couple of months, and it now looks normal...

If you mean "can it self drive for Uber and Lyft?" then we're a ways off from that possibility.

If money was not a limiting factor then I would go and buy a Model S right now. The Model 3 looks good as well but is out my price range. I think the next generation Nissan Leaf is going to be a car that's more likely in my price bracket and what we will be looking to buy in 3-4 years time.

I don't think they usually put super chargers in downtown areas, I'm sure there are exceptions, but you can click destination chargers to see additional charging opportunites.

Just FYI -- you do not have to use a SuperCharger to charge a Tesla. There are adapters for many charger standards. Check plugshare.com for a map of all types of chargers.

In fact, SuperChargers are not intended for daily charging. They're for road trips.

I wonder how soon they'll deploy a test drive fleet to showrooms. I want to see the front end in person—some of the photos make it look goofy as all get out. I'm waiting for dual motors, so hopefully the test drives are available by the end of the year.

There will be some battery reserved to prevent running the battery to 0, so only like 70ish kWh will be useable. Right around 300 miles, which will be a magic number, I'd imagine.
