What the fuck did you expect for 35K? It's not an S or X.
A $35k base car that will option out to over $60k like the other (non-EV) cars in the market segment.

I'll probably configure a 75D and wait the extra 6-9 months. I'm patient enough to wait for what I want.
I bought a used 85 Model S for 50k
My federal tax liability wouldn't be near 7.5k so the tax credit wouldn't benefit me a significant amount .
Credit or deduction?
Got mine ordered. Can't wait. I'll probably let the misses use this most of the time, so i can have my S P100D and X P100D for myself.
That release candidate looks hot as hell. The front has been refined a bit making it look sportier.. Man, and here I was thinking about buying a Chevy Volt. Someone talk me off the ledge!
Credit or deduction?
It's a tax credit. Assuming your deductions are in order, you'll receive a tax refund from my understanding. Pulling up my W2.. I paid ~$12k in federal income taxes last year. If I had purchased an electric car that qualified for the credit, my overall tax liability will reduce by $7,500, so I'll get that money back when I file.
Hell, I'd gladly take a deduction.. but a credit is just icing on the cake.
While true, I've definitely noticed better traction and control during rain storms with awd. And that's pretty common where I live.I'm leasing a Volt, but was in line on day one to preorder the Model 3. I like the Volt, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Model 3. Step back from that ledge!
I was fully planning on AWD, but I have to be honest with myselfeven though I live in a snowy winter climate, the roads get plowed and AWD would truly only be useful maybe three to five days out of the year when there's heavy snowfall before the plows get out. Not sure I can justify missing out on the full credit and having to wait possibly another 9 months. And going by Elon time, that probably means a year.
Would steer away from first gen cars with tesla's iffy quality
Are you my twin? :OIf you want AWD get a certified pre owned A4 (Quattro). Easy to find around 30K. You'll be waiting a while (and sacrificing miles) for a used Model S to get to that price.
Are you my twin? :O
Because this is exactly what I did last year!
Wanna give some feedback for those of us who are patiently waiting? How do you like the overall design of Tesla? Fun to drive? How's the power?
I have an older Audi TT right now and it's just killing me to wait for my first electric car. I love my current car, but the idea of instant power is just so exciting. I have played with the idea of getting Model S but I prefer smaller cars (hence the TT). Elon has always said that Model 3 won't have all of the bells and whistles that Model S has.. I hope they still deliver a premium experience. Otherwise I might as well get the Volt.

Do you live in Atlanta?!

I know somebody willing to sell me his reservation spot for a model 3.
How come they haven't shown the 'space age' steering wheel yet?
Seeing as they're down to Release Candidate versions of the car?
My bet is it has a screen on it. Much cheaper than holodeck.
Musk already said "space-age steering" refers to autonomous driving that was revealed last fall. I think a lot of people were confused by this (I know I was) and thought that the actual steering wheel would be different, but that's not the case. It's what is steering the car (again, autonomous driving) that's different.

Edit: to be clear this isn't concern trolling, I'm all in on self driving cars, they will likely save far more lives than they ever endanger.
This is not how it works. The tax credits carry over. So if you owed 2k for last year, you would pay nothing, and the remaning 5.5k would carryover to the next year and the year after until its used up. Its the same for solar panels.Middle class are paying 7.5k in taxes? People realize you only get that credit if your taxes are actually that much money, right ?
I'm middle class in California and I don't pay 7.5k in taxes
Whoa! What? I can't believe I didn't hear about this... that's horrible and terrifying at the same time. I agree with your edit, however.
http://news.energysage.com/investment-tax-credit-rooftop-solar-happens-dont-enough-tax-liability/The tax credit does not carry over. I have never heard that it does, everything I have read states that you can use it only for 1 tax year .
Link to prove otherwise ?

Solar panels, but i thought EV credit was the same, it appears not, atleast not without some fancy accounting.

I don't really think so. I mean, the Model S feels like a sporty SUV itself. The closest thing I've driven to it in terms of overall feel is maybe the X5M, except not nearly as confident. You're managing the car rather than driving it, and at slight unease at times, again, similar to SUVs. In the price range, it's outclassed by pretty much everything in terms of driving enjoyment.
I'm not looking to track the thing, but when driving through the Cascades to get to Portland or Seattle, I get a huge amount of satisfaction from zipping through some areas.
It has so much promise too, with all that weight super super low in the car. They're just a bit too floaty and unsure, with probably the worst steering feel compared to similarly priced sport-luxury vehicles (except for maybe Audi). I feel like if they get it right, it'd be a no-brainer.
With the Model 3, I was hoping some of those areas would be addressed, given the overall smaller package. We'll see.
If you wanna have potential to get audited then yeah..I'm sure there's ways to go about it.
Okay Elon, you're approaching WTF levels here now.

Has Elon ever actually driven his own car above the speed limit? Didn't he own a McLaren F1 before he wrecked it? Doesn't he know how important it is to see the speedometer of the car right in your field of view of all times?
Godfucking dammit Elon, you're really trying to cut the preorder numbers down because you can't make that many cars aren't you?
Maybe he meant TIE Fighter.Elon promised it would be like being in a spaceship. A single center console screen isn't like a spaceship, Elon!
Ambitious, but seems too early to make this choice. We're not a fully autonomous society yet.Okay Elon, you're approaching WTF levels here now.
