can you maybe change the handling type? I vaguely recall being able to do this in the first one.

I played it on 360 at my friends and at this point there are only 3 "types", one of them being called "hardcore" (no assists) and it drives somewhat like the first game.

I recall we got an update for the first game short after release that introduced additional model for wheel-users. I was very happy with it (I had MS X360 FF wheel backthan) and it added much fun into the game.

However, my friend does not have the wheel - although game offers wheel setting on option-menu - so I can't elaborate on that.

I have ordered a PS3 game this time - mainly because of my G25 - and I hope for a decent arcade wheel-physics. I hope some kind of "simulation" physics will be introduced again, because current "hardcore" model does not promise much in that perspective - although it is fun on controller, but not demanding really.

So, got the game a couple of hours ago (Sydney,Aus) and have put about an hour into it.
First off, the handling is pretty much hopeless no matter what mode it's in. Actually, for the handling to feel anything likeable, I had to play in 'full assist mode' contrary to how I normally play racing games.
I know it's not meant to be a sim, but even for an arcade style game, imo, it sucks. There's hardly any feel of weight and what's even worse, there's a strange auto centre camera thing going on here especially exaggerated in cockpit view which is very disorientating.
The 'hardcore' and 'sport' mode handling is pretty much the same as the 'full assist mode' the only difference being that I found was that if you try to 'e brake' around a corner with no or little assist you just constantly spin out...fucking annoying let me tell ya!

Don't even think about playing with a wheel. I tried my Fanatec Turbo S and it just sucked!

I'm a sound nut so i'm very picky when it comes to this aspect....
The sounds are even worse than TDU1....they remind me of the PS2 days. The shifting effects are terrible. I don't know what happened here but it's a backward step from TDU1.

The cutscenes, interaction, acting..etc is not even b grade... I say it's around G grade. Very cheesy, very...embarrassing for me to listen to.

I really liked TDU1 but this game isn't grabbing be in any way, shape or form. If the developer mentions something about a handling patch soon, i'll keep it around otherwise it's going back to where it came from...very dissappointed!

Sounds great... The douchey lifestyle thing being icky was to be expected and I was preparing to accept it, but your other feedback sounds disappointing indeed. I'll still buy the game though. The concept is sooo good.

I hope Bizarre gets resurrected somehow and rips this game off. Eden has awesome ideas but they just don't seem able to execute as well as you hope. I really don't understand how the handling can not have been improved. It is boggling my mind. Is it at least not worse than TDU1?

So basically you have 3 options for the driving model and none of them make the car feel great or realistic, and not even fun. I mean hot pursuit wasent realy realistic but the drifting was fun.
Also damage model sucks, is it me or does your car not break down or what ever no matter how many times you crash it. It just gets some scratches. I do like the island, and playing online against others is pretty fun. I just think they could have done more. This is def just a 6 or something for me. It sounded realy promising to me cuz i realy like the whole buy your place and cars and clothes thing.

Jesus Christ, you guys weren't kidding, the handling is AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. Every car is so damn twitchy and floaty, the slightest movement of the stick translates to a huge movement of the steering wheel, it's fucking insane. Colour me entirely disappointed, and being forced to do shitty, boring-ass license tests to take part in championships? Ugh. Hopefully I'll get used to the handling and cruising the islands with other people, challenging random players to races and exploring and looking for hidden teleports will prove to be just as fun as in the first game.

It will not affect the handling of the car. In the press release they stated that it wouldn't be entertaining if someone constantly crashes into you and you have to drive to a repair shop every 5 minutes with the Ferrari xD

Imo, TDU1 felt better in every way.
There's some options for fine control such as pad linearity, damper, deadzone..etc. You really have to adjust those controls if you want to at least drive the cars with some sense of feel.

Can you get out of your car at any point now in the sequel, or is it only inside places you buy?

Game looks amazing, so weird all these complaints about driving model being so different from prior one. Still looking forward to it.

Such a bummer. I was really looking forward to this too. Good thing I stopped buying games for the time being or else I would've wasted $50 on this already. I'll just stick to PGR2, Burnout Paradise, and Hot Pursuit.

this sounds horrible

I have a feeling the handling will be okay with some tweaking of the controls. I remember it took me a long time to dial in controls I really liked using with the MS Racing Wheel for TDU1. Deadzone settings and Steering Linearity make a huge difference.

I had a feeling they weren't gonna change anything from the beta... Guess I was right. They were too quiet about it during the beta, just did their own thing. Seems like that beta was for testing the servers more then anything... Oh well... another cool concept ruined.

Uh oh, maybe I shouldn't have impulse bought this. Oh well, was only $40 via Amazon Prime and I got $10 video game credit off it for a future purchase.

So it doesn't handle the same way as TDU1? Cause I could drive in that game just fine and had fun with it...

I like how you have one guy bitching about the controls and it's like "OMG that was a close one! so glad I didn't get it yet" then on the side there are people being ignored like a guy saying he has 20hrs on it and doesn't seem to be complaining, and a whole team of racing buffs on youtube making a comprehensive video series who don't seem to have a problem with it.

unfortunately the only impressions posted here so far have been negative about the handling.. can you refer to some of those youtube vids?

Experience has taught me to treat negative opinions of new titles with more weight than positive opinions. The fangasm that comes with new releases has led me astray many, many times. I don't give a shit what some youtube racing buffs I've never heard of think.

Not to mention I've read reports of sketchy handling for a while now, including a Eurogamer preview last month. This isn't surprising, but it is unfortunately a dealbreaker.

Besides, the videos VVV posted clearly shows the problem, and I've played the open beta and I completely concur the handling issues.

Remember people, my comments are MY OPINIONS and obviously could be different to yours. I mean, if they offered a demo it would make things a little easier for everyone interested but they haven't and it's got to be asked...why not?
I've played a couple of more hours using different vehicles and still my opinion stands.

It's not actually trolling if you don't admit it
The handling in this game is terrible. Agree with everyone in this thread that even as an arcade racer, these are some of the most unintuitive vehicular gameplay mechanics I've ever experienced. GTA4 drives better than this. Bad Company 2's humvees drive better than this. Halo warthogs drive better than this. I'll put more time into it this week and see if it's just the Lancia AWD that's the issue.

Well we'll see how things go. If worse comes to worse, PC is pretty kickass about fixing broken stuff, especially something as simple as control response gradients.

It appears that the Steam store forgot that I made a preorder, though the game is still listed in my uninstalled games. I hope I still get the bonus car.

I am glad I talked myself out of ordering this then, it sucks that the handling is so bad. The game itself has some really nice ideas, but for a racing game to have handling as bad as it sounds is pretty discouraging. I was not expecting anything close to a sim experience, but I did expect a fun one.:(

Edit: Sorry to those that have paid full price I wasn't trying to rub it in your faces or anything.Hopefully some patch comes along to fix the handling.

Watching the preview videos, it felt weird to rarely see cars turning... but after reading the impressions, it's quite understandable that the devs wanted to hide the ugly.

Atleast I will get the casino DLC. Might be more fun than the game itself, it seems.

Hopefully I can adjust to the driving model.

Moving at a standard 1.5Mb/sec, not bad.

I'm not getting my hopes up or down about the controls. Gotta try them myself, see how far I can tweak them, compare car models, etc.

DLC? Ugh...

That stuff was ready in the beta already.

If it ends up being truly bad and unable to be fixed even by the modding community, I will let it be a final lesson to me (wait for sale with EVERYTHING) and consider that money as spent on DoW2+Chaos Rising which I just got an amazing deal on recently.

I cant wait to try it with the G25, this game just does not deserve to be so horrid.

First reviews are in!

Eurogamer - 7/10

"It's a long journey through this huge game and TDU2 offers an unrefined, bumpy ride. Thankfully, if it all gets too much, you can set the grind aside for a long journey of your own – just following your front wheels across the islands, revelling in one of the great videogame open worlds.

Unsteady but passionate and ambitious, TDU2 is fantastic escapism. It's just a shame it sometimes needs to escape from itself."

Gamer365 (Hungary) - 8/10

Pros:
- Ibiza and Oahu
- Huge content
- Dynamic weather, day/night cycle
- Off-road races
- Nice integration of online multiplayer

Contras:
- Dumb story and characters
- Minor framerate issues
- Where are the classical tunes?
