I'm pretty positive teacher-student sexual relationships are restricted to ages 18 and up unilaterally. Texas apparently bans them altogether.

Tipster. What a jealous person....I mean, honest and upright member of our society.
Of course I know that, it doesn't change people from saying that 18, 19 or 20 year olds are children, boys, girls etc. Hell, when I went to get my ID the woman told me to get my mom or dad. It's ridiculous. And it's not just my city/state, Alcohol is of course limited to 21, now smoking already in several states and cities, what's next?

There is a difference. You can be eighteen and smoke and not get in trouble. You just can't purchase it. The same can't be said for alcohol.

Teachers can't have sex with the students. It's illegal. I'm guessing having sex on school property is illegal too, but I don't know.

I don't understand why some of you are so upset by this. Yes, their ages are fine but she was a teacher and he was a student. That's all there is to it. All they had to do was wait a couple of months for him to graduate and this would not have been an issue.
I hadn't thought of this but you're right. Pretty pathetic.
i felt more disgusted because I thought the kid would be a minor to some significant degree, also I thought the teacher might be older.

This is ridiculous. Like any 18 year old man/boy isn't going to mess around with any willing female. At that age all we think about is sex. She should be fired and that's all.
I agree which is why you fire her. Firing someone for that basically ends her career as a teacher. That's a HUGE penalty for someone. Criminal charges in a mutually consensual relationship even if it's teacher student is too much imho. Being a teacher has little to do with it besides increased access to young people.
I believe guys at that age just do what they can to have sex. Teacher or not. In other words I don't believe being his teacher gave her any additional power over the 18 year old that any other female wouldn't have had.

I don't know what's a band teacher is she an actual teacher with authority over students? if shes just a casual "advisor" kind of thing I don't see anything wrong with that.

Oh come on. I agree with the first part, and she certainly should be fired. But the guy was 18 years old, I highly doubt there was some kind of emotional abuse scenario going on, he probably didn't need any coercion.
If that kind of scenario was going on than that's terrible but if there's no proof or I missed something in the article I don't know why you'd jump to that conclusion.

While it is wrong of her to have sex with a student, if that student is 18 then isn't it totally legal and why the hell should anyone care if a 18 year old and 23 year old are having sex?
Ages are fine, but it was at school between a teacher and a student during school hours which is illegal and doing something illegal has legal ramifications. Simple as that. You could argue that it shouldn't be illegal, but I personally don't think it is too much of parents and tax payers to ask for the teachers not fuck their children at school.

I wouldn't say it's illegal everywhere, as this kind of circumstance may very well be legal in some other states, but it is definitely illegal in Texas even if the student was of consenting age.
