I reached out to the mods to do a little 12 days of gafmas countdown based on the most popular threads of 2024. Thought it would be interesting to reflect and see how the year unfolded. I'll update it each day. It is a snapshot of like an hour ago so a couple may move slightly, but in the meantime:

On the first day of Gafmas, M mortal gave to us.......the FFVII: Rebirth OT and what a follow up it was as well to Remake. Highly acclaimed and with the PC announcement also just made, it looks like there will life in this thread into 2025

On the second day of Gafmas, R6Rider R6Rider gave to us, the Dragon's Dogma 2 OT and what a beautiful well crafted thread it was too. A game I've still got to get round to playing:

On the third day of gafmas, Draugoth Draugoth could not have possibly known the explosion that would arise from the Hellblade II Review Thread. A divisive game where the steam charts were monitored, game length was discussed and the quantity of gameplay.

Rocking up on the fourth day of Gafmas is concord being taken offline on 6th September, also started by our resident Draugoth Draugoth - who could have thought at the timeit would lead to such a long thread. We all thought it needed to be done but didn't know how big Sony's balls were and they moved swiftly.

On the fifth dasy of Gafmas, Kabrutus started his movement that would resonate across trhe gaming landscape and the thread was started by GrayChild GrayChild - it's still a hot topic today and spawned many discussions on gaf the last year: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/stea...-if-sweet-baby-is-involved-in-a-game.1667887/

On the sixth day of gafmas, Lunatic_Gamer Lunatic_Gamer started the PS5 Pre-orders go live thread. The drama of the queues, the lack of 30th anniversary edition availability etc. made this a fingernail biting time for gaffers but we all got one in the end I think it's safe to say!

On the seventh day of Gafmas, HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 started to compile the popular 'List of PS5 Pro Enhanced games'. Each game listed and catalogued and discussions about various patches and their impact.

On the eighth day of Gafmas, Draugoth Draugoth gave to us TGA OT which surprisingly delivered this year. Big reveals with Naughty Dog and CDPR both revealing their next major project sneak looks. A new Okami in production. Ueda's new project came in clutch, Fares' new co-op game looks like it will deliver another best in class for the genre and Elden Ring proved it's still not done yet!

Very cool thread, OP. Assuming "most popular" is defined by comment count?
If that's the case then threads on the "future of Xbox" bullshit in February this year must've made the list as well.
That really was an enormous troll-fest and I enjoyed every second of it.

Concord finally won something
It won a place in gaming history as the biggest flop made by a AAA studio and publisher. Sony believed the Concord dream to the point of acquiring the studio behind it, producing out-of-the-game media for it, wasting 8 years in development and U$400 million in expenses to see the game going offline in less than 2 weeks after release. They fumbled so hard that made a few live service projects from different studios to end their fundings in fear of flopping the same.

Concord became synonym of a cautionary tale on what not to do when making a live-service game. Not even Astro Bot launching the same day as Concord shutdown, and after winning the game of the year award, will clean the stain on Sony's records.
