Blizzard only hires the best talent in the world these days

So these characters were just not worth the effort.
I won't pretend to know why they chose to use the lowest effort cutscene for the end of that little storyline when they had a better cinematic for its beginning. But that cutscene doesn't represent the bulk of them in the current expansion.

The game has looked like shit from day one.

I was never big on its visuals either. I preferred the grittier look Warcraft had early in its life. But, again, regardless of how you feel about artistic direction, the cutscene in the OP is not the norm for cutscenes in the game.

What little WoW had going on in terms of story was completely thrown out the window and ruined in Shadowlands.

The Jailer was quite possibly the worst villain in gaming and they retconned so much stuff trying to make him a badass whose been running things behind the scenes since Warcraft 3.

It was fucking pathetic.

Yeah. I have yet to meet anyone who liked Shadowlands. A terrible storyline with the lamest villain they've put in the game yet. They've been scrambling to fix it ever since. Especially considering Battle for Azeroth's storyline wasn't a good one either.

My fear is Blizzard's 8 week cycle goal, more slop like this is the norm. Even from a content standpoint, much of the x.x.5 and x.x.7 patches have just had slop meat grinder filler content. Go to X location at top of the hour. Everyone spams AoE to fill a bar, fly to next spot, repeat, boss or elite pack spawn. Kill. Complete.

The launch of War Within, as a WoW player, I loved. I liked 11.1. I've hated some of the side story writing and half-assed approach to content cycle and lack of polish on minor patches.

Yeah I agree that the filler patches have rarely landed with me and, unfortunately, it means their major patches don't get as much time and attention, I feel. What I THINK they've been trying to do is throw shit at the wall and see what sticks so they can use that kind of content later. They're trying to keep people constantly engaged who otherwise would take a break for months after consuming the content. What I'm hoping is the next two expansions are done better overall. War Within was already a year into dev before Metzen stepped in to take over. So what we're getting now is kind of a hodge podge of his ideas and what they were already working on. Hoping that by the next expansion we see things smooth out. But I'm only cautiously optimistic.

Game peaked with WOTLK, and WoW worked because real nerds created the world. Blizzard is nothing more than a name and a studio that helms an entire generation of ideologically captured hacks. Anyone with talent who's left probably has to keep their mouth and eyes completely shut to survive.

modern storyline is completely embarrassing, toothless horseshit, all the main characters are lame lesbians, and nothing of the tone and atmosphere of the original warcraft is identifiable in the actual product itself anymore.

Have you seen whos left playing WoW Retail these days?

50yo women and cat dads.

This content is what they like

It's actually been bizarre to see how the writing has gone. It was on a slow descent into Fluffy Land, they were trying to make it grittier in Warlords but fucked everything about that expansion up, then came Legion. THAT expansion had teeth. They killed off 4 major characters in rapid succession right in front of you. Some people called it WoW of Thrones. Then the writing went back to another descent away from that peak. They've struggled ever since. In Shadowlands, they unceremoniously ended the existence of two major characters. One in particular, Arthas, was handled incredibly poorly. Like, they were trying to recapture that shock value but did it in the most disrespectful ways they could. Some think Shadowland's storyline is the reason they fired one of their most known writers, Steve Danuser.

Oh yeah, I honestly forgot about Resurrected. Among many failures, Resurrected was genuinely good.

Yea, because "old Blizzard" designed the game. But glad they treated it with the respect it deserves and made an incredible remaster.

TIL World of Warcraft has proper in-game cinematic system now, back in the day it was NPCs jogging to you, turning on the spot to face you, then a bit of text telling you to collect 10 wolf pelts.

Stopped playing after we took out Heroic 25 man Ruby Sanctum. Tried mists, got to Garrosh with a pug 25 man then quit after getting most of that expansions mounts.

Not to dump on the entire fan base that still plays, but after seeing who still plays, I am better off never thinking of that installer, ever again.

Tirion went out like a bitch lmao.

Best part about Legion was Illidan.. and mage tower.

Letting everyone have lore heavy legendaries was a mistake. Oh cool.. you get Ashbringer and you get.. Xal'atath??

Tirion's death was shitty. But killing Varian shocked me. I didn't get over that for a while. I was in denial and thought for sure they'd bring him back.

What in the fuck did I just watch?

Also saw a screenshot where some NPC has a floating wheelchair…in a universe where magic and wondrous things exist. Fucking. lol.

What's so odd about that is that they even point that out in the game. That Khadgar, the character you're referring to, doesn't necessarily need a magical wheelchair. But he keeps it because another mage he likes made it for him. So kinda like, "Yeah, we know this is stupid, but fuck you. We're doing it anyway".

Western studios have a serious problem that won't get fixed anytime soon

To fix something they first need to admit something is broken to begin with.

Toxic positivity forbid any sort of feedback/way to make things better.

Look at that clown response to Concord massive flop. Its impossible to change their closed minds.

Man I want to resub but I'm just getting one red flag after another from this company. I'm really disappointed in Metzen for coming back, hyping up the game then just throwing up his hands and saying that the process game creation process is "democratized" now-as if trying to explain why he can't make any meaningful changes. If he wasn't able to right the ship he should have just resigned again.

We all have bills to pay!

Looks fine for a 2004 game? Never played WOW but if you're complaining about muh graphics, play something more recent?
