Fifty's Mix Review

1. Jimmy Eat World - Clarity (4:03) - Pretty cool, not bad, it reminds me of another song that I can't quite remember, but yeah, not something i'd usually listen to.

2. Audioslave - Away from the sun (5:43) - Good, angsty, not sure if i'm a fan of the vocals and again probably not something i'd usually listen to but still not bad!

3. Amon Tobin - Rosies (5:23) - I liked this! Seems like it would fit in a game or something, good stuff. *thumbs up*

4. Rinocerose - Sublimor (5:33) - Didn't like this as much as the previous song, but I could imagine it playing in the backround of a "trendy" bar or something.

5. Andre 3000 and Gwen Stefani - We've got a long way to go (4:34) - Heard this before on Gwen's album and quite enjoyed it then, still do, probably not my favourite track on her album but still, good. *thumbs up*

6. Stars - Sleep Tonight (2:44) - Nice relaxing song, could imagine listening to it in bed, I like the vocals too! *thumbs up*

7. Doves - Pounding (4:45) - Ah, heard this lots before - usually when I'm out at a bar/club, I don't mind it but not something i'd usually listen to at home.

8. K-os - Crabbuckit (3:48) - Cool beat, not bad.

9. The Kleptones - Song Of The Hip-Hop Robots (3:13) - Didn't mind the beat/backing track but not really a fan of hip-hop.

10. Stars - Your ex-lover is dead (4:16) - I liked the quirky start, I liked the female vocals, overall pretty good. *thumbs up*

11. Metric - Dead Disco (3:25) - My absolute favourite track on your mix, I had listened to Metric before but never anything like this song, it is the sex, perfect. *two thumbs up* :p

12. Cinematic Orchestra - Flite (6:32) - Mmmm, not sure, I found this kind of boring, sorry.

13. Kruder & Dorfmeister - Bug Powder Dust (K&ampD Session) (7:20) - Not really my thing, not too bad though, kinda chillout music.

14. Dzihan and Kamien - Slowhand Hussein (5:25) - Good stuff, could imagine listening to this in bed too and come to think of it, sounds kind of like music from a high class porno? Haha. *thumbs up*

Overall, I thought it was a pretty cool mix, I didn't really "hate" any of the songs anyway and the songs I did like, I loved, especially Metric! :) Good job Fifty.

So... uh... is this how everyone reviews? I was thinking more along the lines of a mini essay or something. :lol

I suppose it's much simpler this way... I'll try to make my reviews concise and substantial nontheless.

Fifty

Member
A mini essay? Heck, have you seen the length of a Rolling Stone review? :lol and they're getting paid! But seriously...do it however you want, it's much easier to break it down track by track, since it's a "mix" So far a metalhead and a gay man have reviewed my mix, I think I'm doing alright! I like to please the masses, I'm just not massively pleasing. :D

Yeah, much easier. I write the review down as I listen to it. Seeing that most people don't know the artists or track names of the majority of the tracks, it'd be hard to go back and write an essay-type review. "That one song that went like dadada DADA da was cool..." At least this way both I and the mixer know what song I'm talking about =p

So far a metalhead and a gay man have reviewed my mix, I think I'm doing alright! I like to please the masses, I'm just not massively pleasing. :D

Sorry for the delay Eminem, but here it is...

Eminem's Mix Review

1. ATB - IntenCity (5:26) - Quite cool, not really into dance music like I used to be but I didn't mind listening to this, cool start to the mix.

2. The Rapture - Killing (3:37) - I've got their album, this probably isn't one of my favourite songs on the album but it's still pretty cool.

3. Dredg - The Canyon Behind Her (6:40) - Quite enjoyable, easy to listen to, nice vocals.

4. 30 Seconds to Mars - Oblivion (3:28) - Probably my favourite track on the mix. I listened to this quite a lot last night, it's quite unusal I guess, I'll need to check out more of their stuff if it's similar! :D

5. Oceansize - Amputee (5:32) - Again, pretty cool, easy to listen to, not too "hardcore", cool vocals.

6. Onesidezero - Sleep Through This (4:11) - Mmm, slightly dull/generic, never really amounted to much I guess.

7. The Fire Theft - Carry You (4:14) - I really liked this song, for some reason it seemed like it'd be a really good song to listen to while driving late at night? ha

8. Symphony X - Accolade II (7:53) - Ha pretty cool, very Castlevania as Fifty said, kind of cheezy, but excellently so! :D

9. ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead - How Near How Far (4:00) - Good music, not sure if I liked this one or not though, probably a "grower"

10. Alexisonfire - Happiness By The Kilowatt (5:11) - Not bad, didn't really stand out to me though.

11. The Cooper Temple Clause - Been Training Dogs (3:13) - The intro reminded me of another song but yeah, not really what i'm into.

12. Atreyu - Ain't Love Grand (3:43) - I tried to dig this track but I hated the vocals they kept switching to :\

13. Sonata Arctica - San Sebastian (4:46) - Sounded almost like a Sonic/Crazy Taxi/F-Zero tune at first, or even something from an anime! Surprisingly I really digged this track! Awesome stuff :D Shall listen to this again no doubt.

14. Trivium - Falling to Grey (5:37) - More shouting, didn't really do it for me, d'oh.

15. Devildriver - The Mountain (4:05) - I don't think knitting or polo would be one of this bands hobbies, again a bit too hardcore for poor me :(

16. Fear Before the March of Flames - On The Bright Side, She Could Could Choke (3:03) - Ha, I like the title. More shouting though, dosen't really add anything to a song for me but then again I never really feel angry, meh. They call me mellow yellow.

17. At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul (3:04) - Yeah I can see a trend here towards the end of the mix haha, pretty much the same opinion as the last few tracks, cool guitars though.

18. Underoath - When The Sun Sleeps (5:33) - I liked the intro, the shouting guy spoils the song slightly but yeah, I enjoyed this more than the last few AAAARRGGHHH tracks I guess.

Well, I liked how you tried to ease us into the hardcore stuff, starting off fairly mellow tracks then BAM, shouting hit me, as I said the shouting thing dosen't really do much for me sadly. However, I enjoyed this mix a lot more than I thought I would though and managed to get two excellent tracks from it - "Oblivion" and "San Sebastian", I'll be putting both on my MP3 player and possibly one or two other tracks, so thanks for them! :D

If memory serves, Hotarubi only accesses the forums once a week (on Sundays). I'd guess you'd get a response sometime tomorrow.

Sorry for Low res pics, I only wanted to show you guys What I did. Anyway I'll wait and I'll see how this first digital exchange goes, I'll join in the next one I guess. The mods need to make the stickied threads in bold or something, because I'm sure i'm not the only one who didn't see it in time.

just mailed my discs out today. unfortunately i thought mine seemed kind of thrown together, but i haven't had any time for anything because of finals.

Ok, finally got around to making up a mix. It's fairly poor, I'm afraid to say, as I haven't had the time to get a good theme/mood and flow established. I'll admit I fell back on putting in songs I liked when I couldn't find something to fit.

General progression is from more laid back and louche songs, to preppier, more upbeat stuff, and then onto some faster stuff.

Feel free to cry aural abuse, but its the sort of stuff I listen to on a day to day basis. As such, its called File Under Easy Listening (bonus points for spotting the reference).

Track-List

01 The Cure A Forest
02 Queens Of The Stone Age Auto Pilot
03 Kyuss Size Queen
04 Mark Lanegan Band Hit The City
05 Nirvana Lithium
06 Husker Du Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely
07 The Meatpuppets Backwater
08 Frank Black Oddball
09 Guided By Voices Do The Earth
10 Drive-By-Truckers The Day John Henry Died
11 Rocket From The Crypt I'm Not Invisible
12 The Pixies Tame
13 Hot Snakes Hair And DNA
14 Sweaty Kids Maximum Rock

Looking forwrd to seeing what the rest of my group put out

EDIT: Apologies to my group, sems to take a lot longer than I anticipated to upload the file. I think its there now though.

Right, so it seems my webhosting service decided that it would transfer my domain name now instead of waitng till January (when I asked them to). Anyway, fear not, all the mixes are still there and I'll be uploading them to my other host with the domain name service. Sorry for the delay guys.

in the midst of working on a take home final (god i love inept teachers) so i threw together a hasty mix without much by way of theme. it's loosely organized by mood (happy-chaotic-slow-end) but not really. i think it sounds pretty interesting, kinda.

Pavement - Silence Kit
Pavement - Elevate Me Later (greatest 1-2 punch i can think of)
Pernice Brothers - 7:30 (to continue the LA vibe)
Captain Soul - T-Shirt 69 (not sure about this one, but...)
The Stills - Gender Bombs (fills in as a great transition to this)
Clearlake - Can't Feel a Thing
Hot Hot Heat - Get in or Get out
Q and not U - No Kill No Beep Beep
Dramarama - Anything, Aything
Pixies - River Euphrates
Built to Spill - Some
Songs:Ohia - Just be Simple
REM - Star Me Kitten
Spoon - Loss Leaders (favorite song on compilation)
Belle and Sebastian - Simple Things (perfect closer)

i'll try to make a better mix this weekend, and'll try to upload this tomorrow.

Okay, here's the deal. I don't want to make everyone reupload everything, so what I'm going to do is just alter the passwords for everyone's accounts. That way they can just hop into your folder, grab the mix and get out. Does that sounds cool to everyone, or would you prefer I just put it all on another server?

8bit

Knows the Score
As I didn't get an account on Dormer's server and my own server isn't playing well, I've stuck my mix on yousendit and informed the various folk.
I don't seem to be able to download Drozmight's mix, although he did send me a link to it. Do I need a password?

And here's my tracklisting.

Mutabaruka - Dis Poem
Honey Drippers - Impeach The President
Vicki Anderson - The Message From The Soul Sister
Quincy Jones & Bill Cosby - Hikky-Burr(Mixmaster Mike Remix)
Miles Davis - Black Satin(DJ Krush)
Grandmaster Flash - Scorpio(Plaid)
Sabres Of Paradise - Tow Truck(Chemical Brothers)
The Prodigy - Rat Poison
The Knife - Heart Beats(Rex the Dog mix)
Rachel Stevens - Some Girls
Adam Freeland - We Want Your Soul(Infusion)
!!! - Me & Guiliani Down By The School Yard(LFO remix)
X1 - N.Y.I.S.C.
Shitmat - Vengeance Of The Whitehawk Townies
Nouvelle Vague - Teenage Kicks
Phoenix - Run Run Run
Saint Etienne - Nothing Can Stop Us
Steven Seagal ft. Lady Saw - Strut

I really wanted to tighten up the first few track and normalize it a bit, but I don't have the time.

Actually, you'll need to log into the other accounts to grab the file... that's why I would change all the password. (E.G. You log into bishop's account, grab the mix from him, he does the same.)

Hey, I've had my mix done, but I'm having some difficulties sending it, it won't play certain tracks or read the playlist with certain programs. It may be a little late, but one way or another you will receive it. And Bishoptl, I'll be sure to review yours soon, same for Astrolad (I got your mix by pm, not in your group, but looks good enough for a listen).
