Wait hold up, hold up, hold up....

Why the hell is Santoro back??? I thought the 2009 US Open was his last event.

He's gone Brett Favre on us.

:lol

Just took a look at ESPN's predictions, and 2 notable people are missing (number of times picked in parenthesis):

Men
Early Exit: Soderling (3), del Potro (2), Stepanek
Sleeper: Cilic (3), Stepanek, Youzhny, Gasquet
Winner: Roddick, Murray (2), Nadal (3)

Women
Early Exit: V. Williams (2), Azarenka, Jankovic, Zvonareva, Safina
Sleeper: Ivanovic, Clijsters, Henin (3), Sharapova
Winner: Henin (2), Clijsters (4)

According to Wikipedia:

Santoro will come out of retirement for one tournament at the 2010 Australian Open in order to obtain a record for having played in grand slams in four different decades.

badass. And he's probably one of the few 37 year-olds to play a grand slam. Jimmy Connors got to the US Open Semi-finals when he was 39 so, I think the magician could actually go a few more years if he wanted to. It's fun to watch Santoro play

Another Grand Slam, another loss by Hewitt to Federer (this time in the 4th round) or the eventual champion, whomever he meets first. :,(

Meanwhile, could Tomic's draw been that much easier?

qualifier, Cilic(14), Wawrinka(19), defending Champion del Potro(4), Roddick(7), Nadal(2), Federer(1)?

Biggest names towards the end... if he wins his first three matches (granted, not likely), he'll be on a roll and could put up a great fight against del Potro... and then... but yeah. It's a pretty good draw for him, all things considered.

You mad? He'll lose in the first round.

I got one question, how is Sharapova's game recently? More specifically, her serve?

She's gone back to her old service motion, so she won't do 20 double faults anymore. But no one knows just how many percentage of her serve is recovered. She won in Tokyo, with a fairly easy field, but hasn't played any actual warm-up tournaments this year. I'm hoping of course, begging, but a lot of question marks.

Her Hong Kong finale against Wozniacki was an even match where Sharapova was lucky with the calls.

That's stretching it a bit.

Anyway, I'll do a bit of guesswork and if anyone's up for it they can compete. For those who aren't used to reading draws, just pick one semifinalist from each initial square on the draw

Men:
Semifinalists: Federer, Djokovic, Roddick, Nadal
Finalists: Djokovic – Roddick
Winner: Roddick

Women:
Semifinalists: Serena Williams, Wozniacki, Clijsters, Sharapova
Finalists: Serena – Clijsters
Winner: Clijsters

Serena who?

Dementieva <3

thats a shame. i was hoping she would be able to really get that new serve down, especially if her old motion was causing her injury. i too am begging for a solid performance and a win.

Damn, the hot chick I previously posted after beating Laura Robson lost in the final round of qualifying :(

Oh well, all draws are now 100% complete. At least Donald Young made it through the qualies!

pretty awesome thanks. dont know how i feel about the mics on them though, do i need to hear Serena grunt even louder? :lol

i went to the charity match....it was pretty good, some funny stuff but Roddick and Hewitt left early

It wasn't even a match it was one set! But they did a good job setting up that impromptu fundraiser. It was kinda like Arthur Ashe kids day, but proceeds went to a good cause.

Both draws are pretty open.

Supposedly del Potro's injury is pretty serious, if that's true then Roddick's section is pretty easy. I still don't trust the current versions of Nadal and Djokovic to play well consistently.

Federer, Tsonga, Roddick, Murray
Federer - Murray
Federer

For the women a lot depends on how injured Serena is, I've assumed she's not fully fit. The 3rd section - (3)Kuznetsova, (5)Dementieva, Belgians - is evil. The second section was hard to pick, I nearly went for Schiavone as there's a decent possibility Venus will lose first round, and Wozniacki lost first round in Sydney.

Azarenka, Venus, Henin, Sharapova
Azarenka - Henin
Henin

Kirilenko vs Sharapova in the first round. hot damn.

Oh snap, I'm going to have to set the dvr. DirecTV is doing their massive coverage again.
*Hugs satellite dish*

mimic: If you don't want to rank the women by world ranking (which is fair enough), the bet365 odds rank them:

Serena
Clijsters
Henin
Sharapova
Dementieva

Which is pretty accurate I think (better than having Venus at number 2 anyway)

I'm ready! And nervous as hell for what big Masha can do and what form she's in. Lil' Masha has actually always played tight matches against Shara, and I suspect this won't be easy for the big 'un.

We have 8 Aussies playing on Day 1, in expected order/time (EST*) of appearance:

11am Men's Singles - 1st Round
Jason Kubler(AUS) vs. Ivan Ljubicic(CRO)[24]

12.30pm Men's Singles - 1st Round
Guillaume Rufin(FRA) vs. Bernard Tomic(AUS)

1.30pm Women's Singles - 1st Round
Anastasia Rodionova(AUS) vs. Svetlana Kuznetsova(RUS)[3]

3pm Men's Singles - 1st Round
Jarkko Nieminen(FIN) vs. Nick Lindahl(AUS)

6pm Women's Singles - 1st Round
Sorana Cirstea(ROU) vs. Olivia Rogowska(AUS)

7pm Men's Singles - 1st Round
Peter Luczak(AUS) vs. Rafael Nadal(ESP)[2]

8pm Men's Singles - 1st Round
Matthew Ebden(AUS) vs. Gael Monfils(FRA)[12]

9pm Women's Singles - 1st Round
Jelena Dokic(AUS) vs. Alisa Kleybanova(RUS)[27]

So make your picks. How many survive the first round? I'm picking one: Rogowska.

I am very excited about this tournament!! Let's go Federer. He hasn't won it in a while!!!

His draw is pretty tough. He is playing Andreev in the first round. They played a tough 5 setter at th U.S. Open 2 years ago. Hewitt/Baghdatis in the 3rd round, Verdasco in the 4th. He could potentially face Davydenko in the QF. Davydenko is the hottest player right now and he is full of confidence after consecutive wins over other top 10 players including 2 straight wins over Federer nad Nadal. If Federer is going to lose at the AO, I think it is going to be before the SF, and that would end his SF streak. But does Davydenko have what it takes to win against Federer in a 5 setter?? They have had plenty of close and tough matches. It could end up being the best match of the tournamnet.

Kirilenko takes the first set 7-4 in the tiebreak.
She is so incredibly good looking

Sharapova is a wreck. So many unforced errors.
