I find a lot of the women's matches boring enough but this grunting just is too much.

Then stop watching. Easily solved.

Me? I tuned in for the grunting, stayed for the gorgeous.

That's what I did. I'm just itching for a good tennis match, which probably won't happen till we get into the later rounds.

I'm all for prolonging matches between two beautiful women but I kind of hope Kirilenko wins, just to boost her confidence.

68 UEs by Sharapova

She hasn't been the same since her injury. This is her first match at tthe AO since she won in 2008.

break her Sharapova!!

Yay Kirilenko! She played really well, really glad for her.

Sharapova will be back, you know she will, but here and now I'm glad Kirilenko won.

Del Potro is PISSED off right now. Even though he would have lost that challenge, I don't know why the umpire didn't let him challenge that call. He clearly stopped the point.

Sharapova has got to work on her game. She is too inconsistent. 66 unforced errors doesn't help her cause either.

Darn. Luczak imploded in the tiebreak with a bagel.

At least Nadal is getting a decent match in the first set.

^Who is Tomic vsing?
Guillaume Rufin, a 19yo Frenchman ranked 173 (2½ years Tomic's senior).

Lame tiebreak. But I guess you should get too hopeful about journeymen when they seem to be on the verge of winning big. I've never seen this guy play before but if history is any indication, Nadal is about to roll.

haha the announcers are ripping on Santoro for coming out of retirement. He had a huge sendoff at the French open last year what is he doing back!?!? Derp!

When is Federer guys? He's like the only reason why I watch Australian Open :D

You're going to be heavily disappointed this year then :) Last year a lot of players could go toe to toe with Federer but this year I'm confident the young guns will be all over him this year. Quarter Finals max :P

Everything can happen, sure, although Federer losing that awesome Grand-slam semi-final streak is not one of them :D

I am confident he still has all the necessary abilities to pound those young guns to the ground. Never, ever, counts Federer out :D

Too easy for Rafa. Luzcak played quite well in the first set though. Rafa's going to be tough to beat. Hes still my pick

Verdasco is on hot form. Hopefully we get another game between those two.

Should of won that first set. Serve totally let him down.

Oh well.

Carston Ball may upset Verdasco here. He definitely has the home crowd helping him along.
It's just a matter of whether he can continue to believe in himself. Losing that second set tiebreak may spell the end as it did for Luczak, but we'll see :)

Great. We can watch a potential major upset in the Mens draw... or switch to a poor sport dominate a poor player. Fuck tennis coverage.

you people are missing the real action: fan violence.

or basically Serbian fans v Croatian fans.

My money is on the Serbians.

Damn it Croatians have first blood with some very tasteful Nazi salutes.

Carston Ball and Matt Ebden are both teetering on the edge of destruction here... little chances to break back constantly being eaten up by their stellar opponents.

EDIT: Ball breaks back! Ebden loses a break, and is on the outs, though :(

Oh, yeah, Serena won a set.

I know a way to always watch the match
or five
that you want to see.

Rogowska just broke serve in the second. Comeback? :)

And Dellacqua takes the first set comfortably.

Two Aussies are through to the 2nd round (Tomic and Stosur) and we have 3 more chances today (Rogowska, Dellacqua and Matosevic) then two more tonight (Hewitt and Molik).

If things don't go horribly wrong, we should have SIX(!) players through to the 2nd round by night's end :D
