That this wasn't on the list and fucking Spring Breakers is on there is almost enough to make me wanna punch a kitten. Fellowship is the father of the modern film epic, how do you NOT have it on this list?

At least Eternal Sunshine made the top 10 and Inside Out got some representation.. Surprised at how high Wall-E made it, if only because I thought it was a highly underrated Pixar film.

Critics are as tasteless, fickle, and weird as the rest of us and don't deserve to have their opinions put on a pedestal ever.

I didn't not like Mulholland Drive, but I've never understood why it always tops these best of 21st century lists. I just don't see it.

Goodbye to Language gave me a headache almost instantly.

I don't get the whole "Critics are just people who randomly get to put their opinion on movies" argument. Critics get their job because they can put what makes a movie work or fail into words. They get their opinions put on a pedestal because they have more knowledge about movies and better ways to share that knowledge.

People saying Boyhood and Mulholland Drive are bad is a clear example of why we need critics. To keep the unwashed masses at bay.

Surprisingly a really solid list. There is not much to complain about.

EDIT: City of God might be a bit too low. Also seen everything in the Top 30 and 80 out of 100.

Spring Breakers is well deserved. It was easily my number 1 movie that year.

Love to see Spirited Away so high! That's great. I am surprised to see Inside Llewyn Davis so close to No Country for Old Men, maybe I need to watch it deserves another watch. Personally, I would have put No Country higher too but that's not a big deal.

I agree that it needs more Birdman. Kinda surprised that Revenant missed it too, but not as much as Birdman.

As for Boyhood, I agree with some of the critics here, I wouldn't put it in the top 100, nevermind where it is at. I know it took 12 years to make, but it just fell flat for me.

Top four is pretty much perfect.

Also blows my mind that David Farici (lol, Frozen) participated but they get Jonathan Rosenbaum.

Edit: Oh yeah, and AI is the best Spielberg film and is way too low.

It's always better to see this lists just as recommondations of good films you might want to see and not complain about the ones you're missing. And by that standard the list is pretty good.
Personally I've seen 31/100 so there are still plenty for me to watch.

No Dogtooth or Prestige? List is pretty good though. Boyhood being in the Top 10 is insanity since it's only a good film, not great.

Edit: No Birdman? I know a bunch of people here don't like it but I loved it.

Good to see some love for The Assassin, Michael Haneke, Blue Is The Warmest Colour and Toni Erdmann but unfortunately not having Drive makes this list unacceptable for me by default.

I watched 34 of those 100 films. Have always been curious about watching Mulholland Drive, but now will make it the next film I watch.

I watched a German film earlier this year called Phoenix that was fantastic and could've easily made this list.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind got robbed
Boyhood, The Tree of Life, No Country for Old Men are overrated
There Will Be Blood might be too, actually
Spirited Away at #4 is a bit odd, but okay I liked that movie
Children of Men is good but not that good
I'm glad Pan's Labyrinth made it into the top 20
The White Ribbon is fine but it would be farther down on my list
Based Nolan at #25
Inside Out at #41 is a bit of a surprise but they got their Pixar ranking right with WALL-E at the top spot
I'd rate the Wes Anderson filmography differently, with The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and maybe even Fantastic Mr. Fox above The Grand Budapest Hotel (both of which didn't make the list)

I think I watched about half of the top 100 films. Naturally, a lot of my favorites are missing here

Off of the strength of the OST alone, Spirited Away deserves to be on there good shit

not a big fan of MD tho, even if it is unique in it's storytelling

How can people still be surprised that an award winning movie that was released to nearly universal acclaim and made over a billion dollars keeps popping up on these lists? I get you not liking it. But, how can you be shocked to see it on that list?

I can only assume that the Hobbit movies have somehow diminished the LOTR films subconsciously in the eyes of critics.

Not a bad list but its comedy game is severely lacking. Team America and Black Dynamite should both be on there. At least they included The Royal Tenenbaums though I find its ranking much too low.

The lack of Kill Bill is also problematic.

it doesn't even have Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. There are barely any comedies at all on the list

In my opinion Memento should be somewhere in the top 10 at least.

Also Moon (2009) is missing, it's a great film and the best science fiction film this century so far.

Two things about that:

1) This list was composed by 177 critics voting their top 10s from around the world. Comedies has notoriously been bad at crossing borders, a lot of the customs and languages and in-jokes usually stay in their domestic borders, so a lot of foreign critics dont even get em.

2) The prevailing aesthetic of most American comedies these days is shaggy story structure and improv-heavy editing. Hard for that to win up against more "perfect" dramas and such. Edgar Wright is like the one guy trying to break out of this mold. I would've liked to seen Shaun of the Dead here myself.

I got Mulholland Drive on DVD for like $1 and have yet to watch it. Looks like that's gonna change tonight.

It is a good list though, I don't really appreciate Boyhood as much as others but I think it's a solid movie.

Well i meant even in domestic awards and recognition, however your 1st point is definitely on point and something I didn't even consider.

Moon is so great, one of my all-time favourites, actually I was surprised to see so many of my favourite movies chart rather high on this list.

Still haven't seen Mullholland Drive, I should fix that.
