They took the Best Picture card out of Beatty's hand and showed it to the camera. It was Moonlight.
There was no wrong card given.
No, the stagehands brought the right envelope out afterward.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
What's with this guy just snatching the card out of Beatty's hand. Have some respect you clown.
I'm late with this, but it's pretty incredible that The Amazing Spider-man 1/2's leads both got best actor nominations, ahahahaha.
Foh with that lukewarm take. Ben the gawd wont be disrespected.they're good actors. particularly garfield, who is probably the best actor to play a superhero since Christian Bale tbh.
How dare he disrespect Dick Tracy.
Wouldn't it have been better to leave the wrong card with Beatty if true?
Actually, it says lala land at the bottom of the card. Emma's name would have been larger though.https://twitter.com/HawkeyeOnAir/status/836083731647574016
Wow Warren Beatty knew something was wrong and then the lady didnt even read it, she just looked and said La La Land since she saw the actress on it lol
If anything, I hope it gets a huge boon from the controversy. More people need to see it!It would be sad if moonlight gets eclipsed by the controversy.
Lot's of "suck it, haters" and "salt" talk before/when La La Land was announced... Not that I care much either way, it's just funny to me.
lmao. my man is still sly as hell.
offensive calling them senile when he's pulling off moves like that.
Should just say L L L
It would be sad if moonlight gets eclipsed by the controversy.
Had this happened, it would've changed so many things.
Square Soft and Square Pictures would still be around :'(
Yeah the kid was better Michelle was better and considering his competition,
Denzel was fucking better he won though so you don't need to cry
The biggest shock of the night for me is still Denzel crying like a little bitch after losing. I would expect him to have more class and dignity than that, especially since he already won an Oscar before.
Throughout the telecast, Cullinan and Ruiz are stationed on opposite sides backstage. The duo will have memorized the winners, thereby preventing the need to list them on any documentation that could land in the wrong hands. As the night progresses, Cullinan and Ruiz ensure every categorys presentation is factual. Should a presenter declare a false winner for any reason, they are prepared to tell the nearest stage manager, who will immediately alert the shows producers.
Cullinan and Ruiz, who spoke to The Huffington Post last week, say the exact procedure is unknown because no mistake of that kind has been made in the Oscars 88-year history.
We would make sure that the correct person was known very quickly, Cullinan said. Whether that entails stopping the show, us walking onstage, us signaling to the stage manager thats really a game-time decision, if something like that were to happen. Again, its so unlikely.
If anything, I hope it gets a huge boon from the controversy. More people need to see it!
He didn't announce it. He was obviously confused?poor beatty boo hoo
i mean it's not like the guy made a mistake and made an entire team of dedicated people think that they won an oscar
so sad that he had a card snatched out of his hand huh
Arrival was my horse in this race but the amount of smug gloating from some of you all is really off-putting.
That was the backup card, brought out from offstage. Beatty had the backup/duplicate Best Actress card, which was given to him by mistake. There are duplicates of all the envelopes and cards that are opened offstage to confirm the winner read onstage.
There's no conspiracy or presenter error here (aside from maybe Beatty should have called out the problem instead of handing it to Dunaway), this is a production error.
There are duplicate envelopes opened offstage to confirm the wins.
Yeah, 5% his fault for not salvaging the situation in time, 5% Faye for not noticing the problem, 90% envelope guy's fault.Dick Tracy figured it out but didn't speak up in time.
Poor Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.

I don't see what "class" has to do with showing emotion after a tough loss. The biggest shock of the night for me is still Denzel crying like a little bitch after losing. I would expect him to have more class and dignity than that, especially since he already won an Oscar before.

He's mad and he has every right to be.What's with this guy just snatching the card out of Beatty's hand. Have some respect you clown.
