The Amazing Spider-Man |OT|

after seeing this finally, i can say that andrew garfield is so much better as spider man/peter parker than tobey mcguire that it isnt even funny. i actually enjoyed the character compared to the awkward character pretending to be spider man

Tobey was too much of a doofus. He didn't even look like a teenager. I did enjoy the action in ASM; the shots of him flipping and twisting like an acrobat really showcased Spider-Man's agility and strength. Though they didn't really show Spider-Man's physicality. I don't remember him doing anything super human aside from web slinging. His super strength was really understated.

For me, it goes SM2, SM, ASM, SM3. 3 will always be dead last.

At the time of the release, I'd never been so disappointed with any movie than I was with Spider-Man 3. I think was because of too much shit happening - three separate (four if you count the symbiote) villains, two different love triangles (MJ/Peter/Gwen, Harry/Peter/MJ), wrapping up Peter and Harry. Not to mention all of the odd shit in the movie, Uncle Ben's "True Killer", that fucking conversation Bernard had with Harry.

It was "entertaining" in the same way that "Batman and Robin" was entertaining.

I didn't get that he was "whiny" at all. He cried during appropriate moments and very reasonably blew off some steam here and there.
Any scene with his parents hes just a whiny teenager. They even changed the story of uncle bens death as being a result of peter storming off like a baby after an argument. I understand that he IS just a teenager in the movie and it probably is realistic. That doesnt make the idea of teenage angst spiderman any less dumb.

Just watched the bluray. I thought it was great. I was so glad you don't have this emo Peter Parker that's moping around the whole movie.
I can't wait for the next movie.

Finally got around to watching this, what a piece of shit SM1/SM2 crushed this trash, dude how many fucking times you gonna take your mask off? why wear it all...

Well, there's an actor playing Spidey, so you kind of need to see him without his mask from time to time (plus, it's always justified in TASM), I swear to God, I think I've seen it all, but GAF never fails to surprise me.

Ben's the one that decided to bring Richard into the argument and I could see how that would upset Peter. I got the sensation that Peter tries hard to keep his thoughts about his parent's abandonment on the down-low as he clearly isn't cool with that (understandably) and Ben bringing his dad up out of nowhere during an occurrence that has fuck-all to do with his parents was that catalyst. I didn't think he was being whiny or that the idea of a teenage "angst" Spider-man is dumb; I really didn't get that out of it. It seems like every time there's a movie with a teenage character with a problem it's always too "angsty" for some people.

I just saw it as something about his character. Things like that don't irk me whatsoever. If Peter were a fortunate character with a great family life and nothing to bear down on his mind, and still acted like that, that'd be one thing.

Yeah, it seems like that there are some people who forgot what it's like to be a teenager. Garfield just nails it, and the scene where he storms off is great, and naturalistic. A lot of the dialogue is naturalistic too.

Now, for those who want to be snarky about it and say that it's bad, laughable or whatever, go ahead.

I wish they would've gone with the deleted scene version of Uncle Ben getting shot. I think it was more impactful, but at the same time it might've been too close to what the original did so that's why they decided to shelve it.

I still like this movie a lot. For me it's S2>S1=ASM>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>S3

Spider-Man 3 is a mess when it comes to the script just being too much and not focused enough, but at the end of it, it still pulls through on a couple of levels making it a flawed, but very true experience.

ASM on the other hand is bland, cheap and lacks characterization, which to me has always been the biggest strength of Spider-Man.

Yes Spider-Man 3 is a mess, but it's still got heart, good themes and nice cinematography, while ASM is boring, simplified and with a script that's the opposite of intelligent and playful.

My ranking is

1) SM2
2) SM1
3) ASM
4) SM3 - Personally, I liked Sandman (Thomas Hayden Church was an excellent choice for the part), and the Peter/Harry story, but felt Venom was shoehorned into the plot and didn't really fit. I liked the idea of the black suit, and I liked that they went kind of silly with it all. Spider-Man has always been a light-hearted hero, and I hated when, in the comics, they took him to an angsty/dark period, like so many heroes were doing back then in the wake of the success of Image Comics and all of it's brooding anti-heroes. I felt that Raimi's Black Suit Peter was more in line with the geek that Peter is. He totally thought he was the shit, but he was just still the same goofy nerd, but oozing with nerd confidence. I thought it was hilarious.

Although, to be honest, the fact that we even have 4 Spider-Man movies is kind of awesome to me, considering how long the series was in development hell. I'm all for more Spidey on the big screen, as I've said before, and I'm pretty comfortable with what they've established with ASM, I just felt the re-telling of the origin was forced and unnecessary.

A lot of the dialogue is naturalistic. That's true in that a lot of it is awkward and stilted and lacking any sort of finesse. But I guess if one were to find a way to view the shitty writing in a positive light, naturalistic would be the way to go about it.

Man, if only they kept that naturalistic doorman scene in the film. :(

This movie makes me feel old.

At 30, this movie was not made for me, and it saddens me to no end. They went after the teens with this one and failed big time. To make matters worse, they lost people like me.

I mean who seriously wants to relive this whole Osborn saga again as the culmination of your trilogy? And who the fuckis asking for fucking Electro o be on the screen? Producer driven film.

Emma Stone is a pretty lady

damn producers wanting to use an established villain that hasn't been used yet in a live action Spider-man movie!

Just watched ASM over the weekend on Bluray. I have to agree that this was worse than SM3. SM3 didn't didn't bore me to the point of fast forwarding the movie. I hope theres a new guy cast for ASM2.

Finally saw this. Huge Spidey fan, he's my favorite superhero. Overall it was just mediocre, another sterile Hollywood blockbuster. I feel like they tried to make the movie too dark, literally and thematically. Jokes weren't funny at all which was hugely disappointing. I'm totally fine with Garfield going forward though, I thought he was good. He just needs some better lines to say, what a mediocre script. There was really only one shot that I thought was super cool, when Spidey was crawling all over Lizard like an actual spider.

Lets see if they have the balls to do what they should do in the sequel.

This movie has made me realize am no longer a spiderman fan, as spiderman is really just twilight for nerds now(or maybe it has always been a bit just now it's all that it is), this spiderman movie was crap even craper then the already crap sam reimi spiderman movies.

I became a huge spiderman fan through the 90s spiderman the animated series(also enjoyed the older cartoons& the spiderman ps1/64/dc game).when spiderman had developed likable villains and it was mostly about the plot not 90% vomit inducing romance, at least back then the romance use to work around the plot and not the other way around.

Spiderman is dead, Hollywood killed it they also killed Xmen thanks to over exposure of movie wolverine both are unsalvageable maybe in a hundred years when the movies are forgotten both series can move on.

From a spiderman fan to hater thank you sam remi and this dude that made this movie.

Nah brah, I'll call you out here ..
Overall I enjoyed it. It's definitely worth seeing at the movies. It's leagues better than Raimi's awful Spider-Man 3, but doesn't come close to Raimi's first two films. I no longer feel cynical about Sony rebooting the film so early, yet at the same time wish that it hadn't been an origin story again as I feel a lot of what worked in this film was held back by clumsy handling of that baggage we've already seen unpacked.

7/10
And I think I was one of the first (if not the first) to say it was SM3 level;
Just came back from my IMAX 3D show and I'll say this movie is as good as SM3 with better action. So, so disappointed.

You talking purely about movies? I'm assuming you don't read comics.

I don't read comics, I mean both are dead movie & also forever hurt the cartoon as well.

Fuck spiderman and fuck wolverine and those shitty xmen movies too.

I will never understand how anyone can like spiderman 2 at least 3 had the decency to be silly, 2 is just ultra boring & emo.

Ah, well it didn't take me long to turnaround. It was like a Prometheus case of thinking about it too much revealing the cracks.

I finally saw this, and I really enjoyed it. I am pretty easy to please though when it comes to Spiderman. The last few films were a bit...meh, cause I love me some sarcastic wise cracking Spiderman, which this had tons of. Also, webshooters!

It was ok. Not fond of Andrew Garfield, he doesn't come off as geeky or even dorky. He just comes off more like a creeper with twitchs as Peter Parker. In the costume he came off more like a dick then witty, fun spidey with quips.

The overall direction wasn't bad though, enjoyed Lizard as a villain and glad they showed he had a more human side that was being repressed. Absolutely hated the stylized shots they they kept going with. It pulled me out of the movie and made me think I was watching some cheesy MTV reality show or something.

The stylized shots are classic poses from the comics........ I swear you guys' comments get dumber and dumber by the minute.

I give up trying to understand other people's behaviors and opinions, too much work.....

I watched SM3 somewhat recently, but after ASM.

It was just mostly unbearable. I don't see how anyone can like this over ASM. I felt that it was just a parody of the series. I'd treat the film more as a comedy rather than a sequel.

I greatly enjoyed ASM. I'd go with SM2>ASM=SM1>>>>>SM3.

Exactly. It was so bad it literally felt like the filmmakers were trolling the series.
