Whew... the thought of that maybe happening kinda helps soften the devistating blow a little bit. Just the smallest amount though. I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for never seeing him live though.

Greatest live show in the history of live shows.

Man was a god.

I think a lot of that is also due to his stance on digital distribution.

Yup. You can see that on facebook/twitter as people scramble to find things to post.

Although, you guys thought that Jimi's posthumous output was ridiculous. You thought it was weird that Tupac kept releasing albums after his death.

If Prince's estate starts emptying that vault out?

Good God.

His stuff's on iTunes and I think Tidal. There's very little on Spotify and nothing on Google Play.

To me, that's his best work.

I remember working at Sam Goody when Crystal Ball dropped. Of course, I immediately threw all 3 discs in the changer and hit play.

Cloreen Bacon Skin came on the overhead speakers and I knew it was basically the demo for "Irresistable Bitch," but I was pretty much useless for the next 15 minutes. I mean, I was kinda/sorta alphabetizing the video wall? Maybe?

But not really.

Tubby little hobbit kid in a Kangol and a baseball jersey just shaking his ass and making stank faces every 30 seconds like "Goddamn."

I remember trying to get into Prince after seeing the While My Guitar Gently Weeps performance, but his stuff's not on spotify or Youtube. I guess it's time to try to dig elsewhere.

RIP.

RIP to one of my favorite artists and one of THE greatest performers/arguably the single most talented musical artist of all time.

Sucks to not have MJ or him around... in the 80s, who would have thought that Prince would outlive Michael? There will never be another.

I'm there right now. I wasn't very familiar with his material outside of the popular stuff but I've started listening to his library beginning with For You and it's VERY good. I'm in for a treat aren't I?

R.I.P. Prince

Also listen to some stuff of 94 East (Just Another Sucker) feat. Prince. He was 17 years old.

It's Gonna Be Lonely, Balad of Dorothy Parker, Strange Relationships... the list of gems that many people never heard is seamingly endless.

Oh, and then there's the 12" versions of his singles.

"Kiss" becomes a completely different song after the 3 1/2 minute mark. Like, he slid across the mixing console to the edge of the board, hit a switch that said "exponentially funkier" and then pushed all the dials up.

And then it goes like that for another 4 minutes.

Prince was the goddamn coolest. Also, I'm pretty sure he's literally magical, his guitar looks like it never came down.

Yeah, that's probably my favorite part. He sets the entire hall of fame on fire, and throws his guitar straight up, and just leaves. Guitar never comes down. He never looks back.

His work in the first half of the 90's was absolute GENIUS. Billy Jack Bitch, Pussy Control, Space, The Sacrifice Of Victor, D&P, THE LIST GOES ON. Just purely exceptional.

Yes you and I can be friends as well. That time period for him was amazing and I hold it in such a high regard that today just hurts.

Gonna have to buy some more of his stuff.

Not gonna be on Spotify anytime soon, so I'm gonna have to start my Tidal trial in the meantime.

I'm kinda envious of people who really don't know much about the guy because his 21st century output wasn't all that well recieved, so he's just the weird little guy who changed his name to a symbol in the 90s to them.

And they're gonna get curious and poke their toe into his catalog at some point, and come up for air about five hours later in the middle of a fucking ocean of genius.

and perhaps an intended side effect. they'll need to go buy his physical records.
