"The Ass Nintendo Doesn't Want You To See" (Kotaku)

Chrom better not be censored

@_@

There doesn't seem to be anything there to censor.

It's because Tharja's hands are either too small or drawn awkwardly. NoA is just covering up badly drawn hands!

They're so smart! What a great way to fix a drawing without fussing too much about it!

So, uh, is Tharja offering up her ass to some man in a cape?

'Cuz that's what the U.S. version looks like.

Tharja seems like the type.

Its the best selling game in the series in a long time and still a really good game so it seems to have been the right choice.

Oh yeah, definitely - I'm not questioning the quality of the game at all. I bought it around launch and I'm really excited to get around to it, but I've been busy playing other stuff. I've played 7 and 9 so far, and I'm eager to see where this one will end up.

I dont disagree, its certainly a bit more out there but not enough to be considered like that IMO, it just wasnt bothersome, plus at least the marriage thing for example is tied to an interesting gameplay feature, kind of a big jump from that to "everyone's on a bikini, fuck it"

I think the truth is somewhere in between - you don't hire the No More Heroes artist to come up with Tharja's design and have bikini DLC if you aren't at least partially aiming for the otaku crowd. But as you said, the marriage system is actually a cool addition gameplay-wise, so the two probably went together.

Call me crazy, but I feel like Nintendo really went out of their way to make Awakening particularly fan-servicey:

No More Heroes artist, whose female character designs are extremely sexy? Check.
Marriage and dating sim elements? Check.
Somewhat pervy support conversations? Check.
Beach DLC? Check.
Hot springs DLC? Check.

It's like a cruise missile locked onto the otaku population.

To be fair, only those last two are really problematic. The art in Awakening is fantastic, the marriage elements are a cool callback to 4 and also really fun in their own right, and there's nothing wrong with sex/whatever related conversations.

(Apparently) exclusively-female-character-showcasing DLC is way more stupid. Also Nowi.

You missed my response. The other guy answered what you literally asked, but what I think you meant was asking if it had cutscenes for the male characters at all.

It's got swimsuit event cutscenes for the 2 most popular male (Chrom, Gaius) and female (Tharja, Cordelia) as determined by a poll in Japan.

Edit: Optional fanservice DLC are problematic?

Gender-specifics aside (though there is male event CG apparently), relegating the super-fanservicey stuff to DLC is a-okay by me.

Although Nowi still creeps me out yo

This is nothing, I'll never forgive them for censoring the underboob in Arc Rise Fantasia. That affected both Japan and USA

They were also responsible for Tecmo changing the character design in the Fatal Frame 2 port

Yeah, even though Nowi is 1,000 years old, she still looks like one of those 6-year-olds from K-On.

Oh, me? I'm not wrong, I think it's just the phrasing of their question didn't make them right. :P

That's false. The American text is supposed to be the same as the original Japanese, it's the Euro version that changes it to hair.

Yep, it seems like you're right. Someone in the Nintendo Life comments translated based on the Japanese version featured in this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo0oK7juOqo&t=3m25s

Japanese Version said:
Nowi: Tharja, you've got big ones, right!
Tharja: Nowi, what...?
Nowi: I said, Tharja, you've got big ones!
Tharja: B-Big...? What? That... doesn't sound like a spell. I don't understand what you mean...
Nowi: Tharja, I mean your breasts and buttocks are big !

Sorry for the confusion.

How bizarre and prudish.

Yeah, that's definitely a cape. She's about to be taken from behind.

Yeah, the censorship in this case is pretty counterproductive...

Reading his question literally, no you're not wrong.

But now he's run off with the idea that there are only fanservice cutscenes of the female characters, but that's not true at all.

Eh. I kinda wanted all the DLC for it at some point but since they were taking forever to come out I kinda gave up on that. Haven't touched the game since I beat it. Seems like I'm not missing much as the CG are not for characters I like.

Tharja had to be the worst thing in the game next to Nowi.

That's actually a lot better, then. I'm all for cheesecake, I'd just prefer more equal-opportunity cheesecake in video games.

And no, it's not "problematic" - it's just that if it really had just been "AND HERE'S ALL THE SEXY GIRLS IN BIKINIS" DLC then it would have been 100% megastupid. As it stands it's still sort of stupid, but it's at least not completely pandering to only one audience.

Yeah, even though Nowi is 1,000 years old, she still looks like one of those 6-year-olds from K-On.

Actually what weirds me out is that she still acts like a child. Which is... really weird, since she looks like a child, and acts like a child, so you'd think the two would be congruous or whatever, but then you get to an S-level support and she's wearing that weird bikini-skin thing and it's like what are you doing

She's a great character aside from the fact that I feel like a creep even looking at her character sprite

I'm not sure if I like best FE waifu being portrayed in such a questionable manner. I mean, think of the children who will be mortified when they realize I saw her first.

On a more serious note, I don't see the point. The cape does seem to make the imagination run wild more, but on the other hand, the glistening...
