The Batman - New Trailer "The Bat and the Cat"

Good trailer but still not sold on Zoe Kravitz. Taking her existing roles into consideration, she isn't even in the same league as her mother acting-wise.

Oh man, now I am really really hoping that they are not doing Telltale storyline of
Thomas Wayne as Corrupt guy in with Falcone.

Looks good visually. I thought Pattinson couldn't be bothered to train? Either that was bs or they've cg made him a six-pack like they did for Twilight.

So many misc feelings about this. The darker the better for me but the cast might hold it down. Trailer looks okayish.

Mark my words, lads. This will probably be regarded as the best tentpole movie of 2022.

Here's a reminder that those Batman on Film guys don't know what they're talking about:

Sorry, you’ve lost me?

Back in August you were saying that scene didn't exist due to some Batman on Film guys saying the test screenings were BS.

That's:
Gotham being flooded after Batman fails and Riddler detonates his plan to flood the city.

really hope its story driven because batman is getting old

It’s meant to be. Though to be honest it’s looking a bit too action packed for what I’m after this time around.

Hoping these are the only action beats in the film to be honest. Want a lot more story and character this time.

Ah, right. Fair play 👍

If anyone's curious what the trailer is hinting at about Bruce Wayne and his family:
The Wayne's weren't good. They worked for Falcone, and Penguin worked directly for Thomas Wayne and killed people for him.

Riddler's plan is to detonate dams around Gotham Harbor to flood the city. As you can see from the trailer, he succeeds. Movie kind of ends in a cliffhanger where Batman has failed and the city is flooded, basically Year Zero from the comics.

Still not feeling Catwoman and I still think Batman's cowl looks goofy as hell.

But the visuals, the cinematography, the atmosphere, the action, everything else is S-tier.

Really excited for this!

Could be a whole lot of fun. Don't think of this as the definitive Batman movie people, but another competent and enjoyable reboot.

Hmm...

I was pretty optimistic for this movie after seeing the first trailer, and though it's nice to see more footage, Catwoman's dialogue and the extended dialogue of the Riddler are giving me second thoughts. It started sounding a bit more "high school" than I'd like.

...what high school did you go to, bro?

I don't know what makes you believe that. There was nothing in the test screenings to point at a R rating. A strong PG-13 sure, but nothing that would get it slapped with a R.
I know early rumors were that it was pushing for an R, but apparently recent homes have scared them off from that. Robert Pattinson still wants to take it that direction supposedly.

Warner Brothers doesn't want to take the 2nd biggest superhero toy seller that direction.

What are you, like 80? It’s going to be rated R I believe.
It's just feeling very "oooh, he's such a dangerous heartthrob, let's rub some of his Twilight vampire mojo in there, and make a dangerous romance thing" to me.

Look, it's too early to make any judgments. I'm still gonna watch the movie in full because Batman is a great, long-running series. But the vibe of this trailer gave me pause. But it's just a trailer.

And I'm 50, ya' rat bastard.

I like it, a lot, love the dark, gritty atmosphere, if the movie is anywhere close to Nolan's trilogy, we're looking at another instant classic.

I can't be the only one thinking they're setting up Zero Year here...

The problem with doing Zero Year is that it’ll feel too similar to Cataclysm and No Man’s Land… which Nolan has already riffed on in TDKR.

Also, stupid to establish a whole new Batman/Gotham and then ostensibly tear it all down almost straight away.

Mind you, that visual of Batman leading people to safety is so fucking on the money, it makes it worth it.

So digging the dark “The Crow” like vibe with Bruce Wayne, and that pure vicious anger as Batman when he goes all fisticuffs.

Have not looked this forward to a Batman film since I was a kid with 1989.

Favorite shot of the previous trailer is the bit where Selena looks in absolute horror as Batman beats the shit out of some dude.

This movie is going to be gnarly. I am SO ready for a gritty, dark, Seven-esque detective drama.

Which is pretty much the impression I got from the first trailer. And I was fine with it because it looked and felt like a different take on it. The kid was angrier, without restraint, destructive but curious. A kid.

But like I said, this new trailer ain't boosting my excitement. Still looking forward to it, though. I'm hopeful.

So what's the deal with Catwoman's super ugly mask? This may be the worst design I've seen of it. Well, as long as you can't see the tip of her nose I guess she's completely stealthy. :S

Yeah that's a strange one. Maybe she knitted it herself 🤷‍♂️

Similar to how Bruce improvised his "burglar" suit in Begins, this is Selina's proto-Catwoman look. It's handmade and functional while still having the little flourishes (the "ears) that remind you that it's still Catwoman. And honestly that mask is more effective than some simple goggles or whatever that only cover a quarter of her face.

She's technically not Catwoman yet. She's just Selina Kyle in the movie. This is basically Catwoman's origin during Batman's second year. She'll be actually "Catwoman" in the sequel and apparently it'll be a Tim Sale inspired design with the goggles.

Looks like they decided Batman has to feel like Christopher Nolan's movies. They are a massive success so I guess that will be the flavor for a while.
I'm sure it will be good regardless. Matt Reeves is a good director but there is something fun about the drastically different style in Batman.

Batman 66- Goofy/Campy
Batman/Batman Returns- Tim Burton took it more seriously and created a super stylized lost in time Gotham that had 50s style gangsters and more modern tech.
Batman Forever/ Batman Robin / - Joel Schumachers flamboyant almost musical style sets and wardrobe along with returning some goofier tones.
Christopher Nolans Batman Trilogy- What if Batman existed in our world. Modern crime/mafia.

So far The Batman seems to have a lot of the same going on with Nolan, especially the lighting. It's safe and wont have audiences complain about a diretion change.
Thing is that's why I like comics. There are different versions of these characters, artists, and writers. Every "adventure" comes off unique.

One thing is for certain, sticking to one style makes connected properties much easier. Same reason a lot of the Marvel movies feel cookie cutter unless a director can work within those limitations (Thor Ragnarok).
Again, Matt Reeves is a great director so hopefully I'm wrong.

It's nothing like Nolan's movies. Batman narrates the entire movie out of his detective journal like in the comics.
