OG DBZ came off differently as a kid, though. It took forever for a major plot development to occur, but as a kid, even the boring moments felt intense as fuck.
But trying to watch it as a teen/adult, you begin to see the flaws more in hindsight. Not only with pacing, but in overall character & story development. Gohan being ain't-shit his entire life, then has a moment where he finally goes over during the Cell Saga (which Goku almost fucked up), only to render himself even more ain't-shit with the Saiyaman nonsense? Yep, that happens. Vegeta training himself to the detriment of his own family, and yet still can't hold a candle to the nigga that manages to die twice throughout the series? Yep, that's a thing. No meaningful female character in the whole damn series? Yep. A whole saga wasted on Hercule? Yep. Not to mention most of the other characters ain't worth jack shit in a fight. Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan & (sometimes) Trunks? Legit. Everyone else =
Not to mention Goku being the John Cena of anime. Nigga should've taken a backseat and let Gohan have his push. But Toriyama straight jobbed the nigga into Rikishi status just to give Goku more shine.
