I was actually legit surprised that The Tall Man was still alive. I thought he was in his early 60s when Phantasm first came out in '79
TBH, I googled him and I was more surprised that Jessica Biel made a movie as recent as 2012. I thought after her straight to DVD stripper movie that she was completely done.
You know what, Marvel should scoop her for something. I think she could make a good superhero.

It's good at what it does but I agree that it doesn't deserve the more extreme claims of Best Film or Best Action Film of the year.

I disagree with that. I think despite it's purposely simplistic plot; the sheer amount of craft in display, from the level of detail in the set pieces and wise use of CGI, to the show don't tell storytelling, to the audio work, to the cinematography, puts it above most.
I mean, even if I find Ant-Man or Rogue Nation more fun, few of them have that same level of craft.

I suppose it's what you're looking for. But for what you describe, I'd say the film warrants the technical awards.
For something like Best Action Film, I'd place more weight on the action. Which isn't bad by any means but isn't anything that stands out head and shoulders above the rest.
For Best Film in general.. well then there are other films that can match the craft while having more substance as well.
That tends to happen when any movie is hyped by fans greatly. Comes with the territory.

Not sure it's 100% true, but she's been pretty open about everything else that she went through during that time.
At least it wasn't a traumatizing experience for her. That's the best I can about it.
There was a lot of great discussion in the Mad Max OT when the movie first released, which helped me solidify my very high opinion of the film.
Nowadays, Mad Max is a meme - something to react to and not so much absorb. People's opinions are colored more by the meta surrounding the movie rather than the film itself; most of the current discussion is hot takes, washed of nuance. You either like it or you don't, and it might be because of how other people are talking about it.
So it goes with anything the becomes a cult and media darling. If every one is screaming at you that something is good, you might just become skeptical as a rule. Mad max fans can be...enthusiastic. Evangelical. But they mean well.

Funny you mentioned that. Me and the fiancée saw the movie at her friend's house from beginning to end with Captions turned on.
Still don't understand the plot and still felt meh about it. Fiancée's friend's fiancé was looking for the Raid 2 on VOD.
I regretted then and there not bringing my bluray copy.
In twenty years I expect Nigri to look like Tammy Lynn Sytch/Sunny in 2016.

The hype Mad Max has is when film nerds have an appreciation for the person behind the film even more than the actual film. Mad Max was great, I loved it, but I also know that movie ain't winning no meaningful awards. People holding out hope that because most of the movie was practical that it would win are insane
I need to get on my Steam sale copy. It sounds like a game written by people who read the Sonic Archie comic... like me.

Yea, its sad how bad the quality control is on Sonic games. Even with Generations out, there are some fangames out there that do 2D gameplay better.
Hopefully they learned this year, but I'm not crossing fingers anymore.
Gladiator won a Best Picture. Anything is possible in light of that, lol.

I didn't find anything transphobic about his jokes regarding Caitlyn. Hell, the only one that I could see being offensive was the driving joke
Gladiator was fun and all, but Best Picture? It wasn't even the best action movie nominated for Best Picture that year.
School started today. I have three classes in Finance/Economics. I also bought a Udemy course to brush up on my Calculus. I've completed my VITA certification so I'll be preparing taxes again this tax season.
On top of that I'm working full time (although it's an office job). Loading my schedule but I'm looking forward to it. Hope I don't burn myself out!
