Metroid never really fit Nintendo's image or goals.
For starters it was always more popular in the west than in Japan. It was always more popular with the conventional action game demographic, and Nintendo hates the idea of laser focusing on that one group. The guys in Kyoto didn't even really like GoldenEye despite how important that game was.
What the hell is The Division other than a cover-based shooter though? Is it another game where you go online and do stuff with people to make numbers go up?
I guess I'm just not down for multiplayer games and "connected experiences" anymore.

I like cover shooters well enough personally, but Division feels slow and unresponsive. And it's set in New York and doesn't have Central Park or Brooklyn so fuck it anyway.
