Well I don't know about what's going in that thread, but add me in the group that sees where they're coming from I guess. From South Park to shows like Veep, I told myself I wouldn't be surprised if they really meant what they said when they kept saying it's just getting harder and harder to top the insanity that is Trump in real life. Now in South Park's case, I'd still try my best, since they have a show that is known for making fun of literally everything, so it's pretty silly to call it quits on this. But if they don't see it as being worth it, or don't want to risk further normalizing his behavior, then whatever I guess...
All that being said, people who take the messages from South Park seriously are... humorous, to put it lightly. Every time I hear the whole douche vs turd sandwich thing for example, I visibly get annoyed.
South Park bought itself a few extra years by convincing people that it had a worthwhile political point of view. But really the shit is trash, and has been for a while.

See that's the thing. I ain't about to sing the praises of the depth of a show where they had Brittany Spears blow her brains out and shamble around as a headless corpse for 20 minutes as some commentary on celebrity and papparazo.
But if you're gonna make your show go from an absurdist, almost farcical comedy into a political commentary, then you can't just run away from Trump because it's "too easy" or "nah he's too funny in real life (yeah, haha at all those Muslims being deported that sure is hysterical).
Don't run away from that. Own that the creators of the thing you like just bitched out. It's okay to still like something and know A) what it became later is fucking garbage B) it's creators long since lost touch with what's topical and enjoyable and C) are acting cowardly by choosing to just blanket ignore Trump and his horrible BS because "well we did that already".
Just own your fuckery.

I mean lets kick the ballistics, South Park isn't even good comedy unless you are a 13. They are tired and played out. Their format of shitting out an episode a week means they don't really give any thought to what they doing.
They have had Orgasmo(remember that?), Book of Mormon, and South Park. Damn near 20 years and that is their creative output.
