You really can't be socially liberal and fiscally conservative, it's like saying "I believe in abortions but we need to defund planned parenthood and other abortion clinics to save money." It's lip service.

And let's be real...the conservative party isn't fiscally conservative; they really never have been.

I disagree, I think you can be both, especially if the reason you are at all fiscally conservative is so you can keep as much money as you can. While I don't particularly agree, it's a possibility.

Modern conservatism is so far divorced from Goldwater fiscal conservatism they might as well not even call themselves that anymore. They don't believe in small government they believe in an absurdly centralized govt where we keep this ridiculously bloated budget but throw money at guns and tanks and Jets we ain't use and goverent agencies that don't do shit (most people don't know the federal department of education does very very little at the state level for instance).

At this point there are no fiscal conservatives, there are loons like Gary Johnson and people that follow him and loons like Bernie and people that follow him who all ignore reality.

And reality says that the best we can get is some bastard child of conservatism in our capitalist society while also having a series of socialistic social programs in place to support those that our economic system chew out

I've had this talk with a lot of my friends, and most all of us identify as fiscal conservatives but know that, ultimately, what we want won't be and isn't feasible in reality so we all vote along social welfare lines and hope to bulwark the rest.

I've put a LOOOT of thought into this nonsense, now that I finally got a little.

I sometimes make an awesome potato salad... As long as I have goat peppers and don't need to give a damn about what anyone else thinks.

Obvious tip, goat pepper is great with everything not dessert related and screw anyone else who hasn't realised it.

if the gop was actually conservative instead of what they actually are (which would take a few lines to uncoil all the stuff they hide under that conservative title.) they would be much loved and not just the party of traditionalists, racists, rich elites, and the uneducated.

instead of protecting and preserving, these conservatives seem to be slashing and burning. maybe what they're trying to conserve isn't what the rest of us would want to save...

I've realized that there are many on GAF that really think different races are born with different preferences. It's like the single most ignorant thing that leads to every other sort of racism; prejudice and clichés are not okay.

Maybe the stereotype of black people liking fried chicken and watermelon happened because some white folks couldn't handle liking the same thing as them "negros" :p
