The Black Culture Thread |OT2|

Does someone have the thread where Gaf first realized all the details bout San Andreas? Someone linked it to me like 3 months ago and all I remember was people literally losing it acting like the series was basically dead.

Personally I can't watch black porn.

It was a vocal minority. It wasn't near as bad as Gamespot was when it happened.

I wish I could participate in the minorities in gaming podcast. Absolutely no time with multiple projects shipping :(

If you do a redux, let me know.

I think tomorrow...I'm going to give grits another try. Maybe with some butter and salt and pepper.

Also, I kinda want to get in on that SWS comic discussion. Gotta see if I have a mic worth a damn tho.

When you get some free time we can arrange some sort of follow up.

Comic topic isn't for about a month. Plenty of time to get your hands on a mic.

Shit is sad, man. You look at these stats, and we're some of the fattest, poorest, less educated, most likely to go to jail...

Damnit, black people

The dead nigger storage line seems out of character for Jules to just do nothing. He just shot a guy for saying what and he doesn't say anything to a guy yelling nigger I mean he could of just been like I know this is a fucked up situation but cool it with that shit.

Wassup !

It's because even up into the mid 20th century where it was the status quo, black people were not supposed to talk back to white folk; it just wasn't done. You've got Django riding a horse when society says he can't. He pretty much calls Candie's lawyer a nigger. He kills white criminals. He reads, stares white people in the eye he has a wife when America tries to tell him he can't. That's what puts a smile on my and many others faces

Django was becoming more like the African American of today in a setting where he would be killed for doing so. One of my favorite little moments was when he comments on Candies bodyguard wearing a hat in the house and how stupid he was for not knowing it was improper to do so.

The "dead nigger storage" line, I think, is very often taken out of context, or taken wrongly - and justly, considering the severity of the statement. It is shown that his wife is black, and upon replays, you could infer that the reason he uses the word nigger so freely, is that he feels that, due to being married to a black woman, he feels it's okay to use the word nigger. Someone thinks he's down.

It's not like the guy is shown in a good light. If anything, it makes him come off as worse on rewatches.

Pulp Fiction is a film about bad people, doing very bad things. Sure, there's the occasional person who is more on the neutral side of things like Butch, but for the most part, everyone in the film is someone you don't want to emulate.

So how could anyone who watches Pulp Fiction be actually offended by that statement?

Thank you for the welcome! Glad to be here!

Narrative justification doesn't mean anything.

Narratively speaking, the white citizens in Birth of a Nation had every right to feel threatened by blacks and Reconstruction. The fact of the matter is, pretty much every Tarantino film outside of Death Proof (?) has contained scenes that racially target blacks. We can't say for sure whether the intent behind them is malicious or not, simply that their inclusion within his films are consistently out of left field and narratively insignificant.

Reading more depressing stats, why are black women so overweight? It can't just be Big Momma's soul food

I've come to the conclusion that the more delicious the cuisine, the fatter the culture. Blacks, Italians, Soul Food, etc. That food be hittin' the spot. I wouldn't be fat either if I had to eat some bland ass boiled chicken.

Tell me the scenes that racially target blacks in Jackie Brown and Kill Bill?

And please tell me you are not seriously comparing Tarantino's films to Birth of a Nation?

I already did: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=46523398&postcount=18523

And where did I compare Tarantino's films to Birth of a Nation? I'm saying that using narrative justification to absolve the filmmaker of blame for something is completely misguided. It was in response to your assumptions that Tarantino's character within Pulp Fiction is indicative of a person within an interracial relationship that believes they inherit "racial credibility" alongside it.

I watched Django twice now....the music in the background during the opening credits was hilarious to me, but I felt bad for laughing because of that scene. There was a black family sitting behind my friends and I.

It's crazy how some people think the movie is OK. They complained that it was too long, I realized they aren't Tarantino fans.

double jump

you haven't lived until a random little kid ask you "how do you make love".
Salt, pepper and butter. Some of the syrup from my pancakes got mixed in with some of the grits, and that was gross. So I don't think I'll be adding sugar anytime soon.

but syrup in grits be good though

Music topic sounds solid. Financial one would make more sense if we could get a BCT member who is knowledgable on the subject.

edit: on second thought gentrifrication, lack of education of personal finance and things like that could make the topic work.

I think we need to do ask a black dude. Maybe we could set up an email that gaf can email their questions to.

I saw the suggestion and I agree that it could be great. I'll update the OT with that gmail account I created for the podcast.

In related news we got out first serving of salt. Episode one comment section on podomatic: "oh cool. 40 minutes of vindicating white people" give me your tears, give me all of them.
