because everybody loves Mya and we often forget she even exists...

damn i want to be that dude she's grinding on.

sn: I have successfully mindfucked myself. Everything my dad buys on iTunes shows up on my computer so I'm listening to some of it now just because I'm bored of my music. It's weird that we like the same music (disco/dance)...but about ~30 years apart lol.

Forget? Since I saw the Rugrats music video (with Blackstreet) as a kid I've been a Mya "fan"

Actually this reminds me of why the 90s were so awesome. You could have kids shows with decent rap songs. None of the garbage hippity hoppity songs we get now but actual artists being used. Maybe it was just Nick though, as this was the case with Kenan & Kel (Coolio) and All That (Nas, TLC, Busta, Missy Eliot, LL, etc)

Wife just had another accident... Damn. 3rd accident this year.

Edit - wife is okay. Accident wasn't her fault. lady wanted to exchange info and not get the cops involved. Not happening. Lady then calls her insurance who then wants to speak with my wife. I told her don't say a word.

Damn, glad she's okay

I gotta stop getting connecting flights through Utah

Going through Denver's on Saturday. That airport is.. interesting

This doesn't make sense. Doesn't want the cops involved but called her insurance anyway?

well turns out this lady is a repeat offender. Texting and driving. Wife was at a red light. Lady is texting; assumes the light turns green and hits the gas. Luckily the wife's Nitro is a pretty stable SUV and no serious damage was done. Anywho the lady told the wife she's had similar accidents 3 times before and daddy took her off his insurance. She has her own and just wanted to make sure Daddy didn't find out. Wifey said the young lady had to be no more than 20.

I can only assume she was trying to be proactive. Or was trying to weasel her way out of her rate going up. I'm pissed because the wife hit a deer right after the new year and some obnoxious dude hit the truck at the mall in march putting a dent in her passenger door...parking too close. Now this.

That car is cursed. Sell it.

Real life takes precedent. DY had to duck out for a while and fake an 'assignment' in hawaii to get some 'folks' off his tail, the kind of 'folks' that have sickness in the morning.

DY, let me know if you can make it tomorrow. The sooner the better, if we don't have either of you guys I'll probably see if any of the gafhop people are interested.

Went to Pine State Biscuits tonight.

So good.

He had a biscuit sandwich: Fried chicken, bacon & cheese topped with gravy and an egg.

I had Shrimp and Grits.

God damn that sounds pretty good.

Hell if I know. Don't worry though. I've called grandma and grandma fixes this sort of thing.

Grandmas do fix everything. Their powers seem limitless when you're a kid

edit: my mom's job gave her a leave of absence until August 3rd. Damn, I like them much more now.

Yeah they do.

Good news with your mom's Fyre. I'm assuming this is paid leave which makes it all that much better.

Harry Lennix's comments on The Butler:

"... For example Lee Daniels sent me the script for that film he’s making now, The Butler, about the black butler at the White House. I read five pages of this thing and could not go any further. I tried to read more of it, and I’m not a soft spoken guy, but it was such an appalling mis-direction of history in terms of taking an actual guy who worked at the White House. But then he “niggerfies” it. He "niggers" it up and he gives people these, stupid, luddite, antediluvian ideas about black people and their roles in the historical span in the White House and it becomes… well... historical porn. I refused."

"And people want to see these images so they’ll say things like: “It’s a very difficult movie to look at, but it’s great movie.” That’s a contradiction in terms. That’s a paradox. It can’t be that it’s a great movie, but it’s difficult to look at. You know what I mean? (laughs) Why would you put these images out there? But clearly the critics, many of them, love to see this kind of material and love to see us in these types of roles."

"Because it feeds into the great lie that is being perpetrated by the most important medium, the most powerful export that the United States has to offer which is entertainment. The most powerful tool that they have and it has kept us in a place, men in dresses and things, raping their daughters and things. While any sort of aberrant behavior happens in any community, it has become normative in black cinema that we are these bestial, deprived people, and I refuse to play with that."
Fuck Lee Daniels doe. Precious was one of the most nauseating movies Ive ever seen.

Straight up truth!

I saw that YouTube doubler with chariots of fire alongside the scene where she snatches and runs with fried chicken that someone in here posted. That's it though.

I actually liked Precious. But it's definitely overly morbid and ridiculously heavy handed. The filmmaking is nothing special, but the acting is damned good from everyone involved. Unfortunately, it's one of those melodramatic feel bad films that you're only going to want to put yourself through once. I mean, it's a good movie, but I wouldn't say I enjoyed myself while watching it if that makes sense. It's one of those movies where you recognize its merits but anticipate the movie ending do you can start pulling yourself out of depression.

The movie is heavy handed, and I think it works best if you assume the character of Precious to be an allegory for the inner city experience. Literally every issue effecting inner city blacks is a part of her personal story, which is absolute bullshit if taken at face value, but relatively powerful if viewed as a literary tool. I hate using terms for films, but Precious is basically anguish porn. I know it's tough in these types of environments, I personally know first hand, but Precious' experience of being:
morbidly obese, illiterate, a victim of sexual abuse, uncomfortable with her black skin, uneducated, impoverished, physically abused, a child within a single mother household, a teen mom of a child with down syndrome, a carrier of HIV who passed it onto her daughter, etc. is an outlier experience being passed off as "just another day in the hood."
I agree that is an extremely disingenuous message to be pushing, and counter productive in the long run. Also, typically within these types of films you're left with a positive note, but
Lee Daniel's was like "naw fuck that," so the film ends with Precious finding out that the father that raped her is HIV positive so both her and her baby are HIV positive as well. At least she can read doe!

Seems like whoever uploaded that scene must have disabled embedding for it after that doubler became popular.

I agree. I watched the movie because I heard that the performances were excellent, and I was satisfied with what I saw; but I couldn't stop myself from saying "Really?" every time something big happened. Still, that's how it played out in Push, and I don't really think either version goes overboard with it.

I agree with the overall point but I cant ride w/ that middle paragraph.

I remember seeing her in my gym once. All the staff and trainers were hovering around her, and at first I thought she was just some hot MILF or something. Then I saw her doing calf raises and I walked up to her and asked if she was Mya. She said yes very quietly, I said "Cool", and went back to my workout.

I haven't seen precious. Some of the stuff I've read about that film is enough to keep me from watching it.

I read the synopsis of Precious online. That was enough for me.

I did a lot of the marketing for that film when it came out..... I apologize it was a piece of shit but I really did a good job getting it out there for people to see. Also it made all my white co-workers cry.... IE why it won those awards whereas I was like "The Color Purple" did it better and had the decency to end on a happy note.

If Bish hadn't gotten mad at us for turning this thread into an echo chamber every time a thread like that popped up I would have stopped posting in there already.
