I had the same thought waking up this morning.

African Americans aren't like immigrants where they just bring over foreign culture into the country. What we're referring to as "black culture" right now is American culture. The way we eat and dress is just as American as, well, anything else here. We may have invented some culture that probably has slithers of African influence that survived the centuries, but that culture came up in America and most of it has been adopted by America. From what I can see, most foreigners identify that culture with America as a whole, not just black people.

Yep. It all comes down to, "I don't want to be associated with Black people". Which is sad as hell.

This concept of cornbread and chili just doesn't suit well in my interest. Chili just belong on fries, burgers and hotdogs...nowhere near the chili...

Yeah, I don't get it either. I think it's supposed to be a salty-sweet thing, but my mom grew up all over the west / midwest and the Wahrers used to be farm-centric carpenter types from up north, so I'm guessing it's just a weird frontier meal that my great-grandma helped perpetuate when she was raising her ten kids in dust bowl-era struggle times.

The Wahrers are a fucking weird family. Persistent, sure, but definitely off.

I've always had shit cornbread until this year's thanksgiving. used to it falling to shit, gritty as fuck - turns out my mother couldn't fix it worth a good goddamn. My brother made cornbread this year and I was like "well, I don't usually, but this time I'll try it" and I ate six of the damn squares. God tier. I just had to have the right person make it. My mother can't be trusted.

Mostly, yeah. 2/3rds German. My dad's Puerto Rican / German and my mom's from the American Midwest but her family immigrated from Germany in the 1820s. I just have an easier time identifying with smaller, minority-centric communities like this and the LGBThread groups because I feel like straight white guys can be kinda one-dimensional when you run them through a game market / pop culturally-guided echo chamber like GAF.
