The Bold Statement thread....

I don't care if you don't like the game, but you really can't call it mindless.

Unless you're one of those freaks who thinks the FPS genre in general is mindless.

Guilty. I the FPS genre isn’t may favourite (unless the game is GoldenEye). Maybe “mindless” was a bit hasty, but “repetitive” certainly wasn’t.

One more Bold Statement: Fanboys and misplaced brand loyalty make the gaming industry fun.

Go play Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

Actually, SMT:N feels closer to the large dungeon, lots of challenging combat, minimal story and characterization, RPGs of yesterday than the newer stuff. No knock against the game, nor the style (being an RPG fan from "back in the day"), as I rather enjoy it.*

*Except for when you win a battle and then more monsters appear out of thin air!

Minish Cap > WW.
LTTP > OOT.

All prior Mario platformers in their time and age > Super Mario 64 DS > Super Mario 64.

There are as many good to great Nintendo first/second party and third party exclusive games on Gamecube as there are good games on the other consoles.

Revolution will do better than Gamecube. Easily. Developer-friendly architecture, online gaming, DS/GB2 connectivity, SD-card / alternative media bay, and taking advantage of the retro gaming potential will all help it a lot imo. This is before we factor in whether the new controller is actually good or not, and whether it pulls in some new games/gamers as well. It already has the best case design.

Sony deserve to be number 1 at the moment. I'm happy with them on everything except prices/punctuality in Europe. They should however, not be winning as much as they are. They need pulling down a peg.

I think Chronicles of Riddick is more enjoyable than Halo. The timesplitters games are the best home console multiplayer FPS this generation. Virtually every WWII FPS I have ever played is UTTER shit.

Splinter Cell is good (great even) but it's much more laid back (and often perceptually: much more clinically boring) than the more entertaining MGS series.

FFVII is easier to get into than any other Final Fantasy.

The only thing stopping the PlayStation/N64 generation of games from overshadowing the few and far between greats of today is the lack of texture filtering and god awful framerates respectively.

I don't find anything shown for Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 to be wowing. It pisses me off that some people can't tell the difference between something that might as well have been made on a render-farm and something that's actually a living interactive world - a game. Those that were playable builds - granted, everything I've seen looks a lot better than whats out now, but so what? I'm not at all excited for the time when I get to throw down a couple of hundred pounds on em.

I would keep buying good games on all current platforms if they were to be released.

I would rather Microsoft published games and utility software for all platforms. Xbox Live-esque systems, middleware and Xbox/PC Media Center on all consoles!

People were playing non-Playstation console/computer games 25 years before the PS2, and they'll be playing them 25 years after the PS2.

Sony hasn't provided the content for every type of gamer. That's why the Xbox exists.

Counter-Strike is one of the greatest games ever made.

Half life 2 was my most dissapointing game ever.(mostly because of the lack of any good mods except source.)

Who has Sony left out, by your estimation? Xbox exists because they secured exclusivity on one piece of content that was originally headed for PS2.

ONE CONSOLE FUTURE.

Agreed. I thought competition was supposed to create better games all around, but it hasnÂ’t, itÂ’s just made them look prettier. MicrosoftÂ’s entry into console industry has lead to the mucky sequel ridden rubbish state of gaming we have today.

c'mon is obvious what are the specialty of each system
You will not get a PS2 for the FPS's
You will not get a XBOX for the JRPG's

Which piece of content was that? Oddworld?

(Halo was never in development for the PS2 if thats what you were implying)

But aren't most of the fps's that come on ps2, also on xbox? Unless you're counting Halo? And even then, Halo's not even that good.

The only thing X-box has over ps2, genre wise, are online fighters.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
oh boy
If you have said PC instead of PS2, maybe just maybe you could get a point, and even with that I can argue tha there are FPS that doesn't appear on PC (Breakdown, UC2, Halo 2, etc)
and some others that you couldnt run in a PC with the same price and/or specifications of the xbox (painkiller, serious sam, Doom 3, Half Life 2, FarCry, RTCW)

Yes it was.

IGN said:
For those that read IGN on a regular basis, however, it has been known for quite some time that our sources inside Bungie have disclosed that console versions (for both the PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast) have been in production for quite some time now and that an announcement revealing the set-top Halos is just days away. Publisher Rockstar Games has also gone on record by stating that the PS2 is the most likely console that Halo will appear on and that 2001 would be the year that it does.

The Playstation consoles are the most sequel crippled consoles ever made.

How many R&C games this gen? 4!
How many Jak games? 4!

Do you know there has only been 4 Metroid games ever made on console and has been around since the 80's?

You need to direct your comments where they belong, towards SCEJ, SCEE, and SCEA

Blue's News: Will Halo ever be released for the Playstation 2? A port was rumored to be in the works, but has never been confirmed. Does the Microsoft acquisition destroy any chances of this happening?

Doug Zartman: That has never been anything other than a rumor - no PS2 version of Halo was never in development, and now it is not likely that one would be.

IÂ’m not denying that PS2 is the most sequel ridden of the three. What IÂ’m saying is that when Xbox was originally announced people who spend time speculating on the gaming industry (like ourselves) saw it as a good thing because it added a major competitor and fiercer competition was supposed to lead to higher quality games, but I surmise that it has not met this promise; instead it has solidified gaming as a mainstream form of entertainment, and with any form of mainstream entertainment comes appealing to the lowest common denominator, hence sure to make money sequel rubbish.

Halo and Halo 2 represent the best games of this generation, and Halo 3 will help the XBox 360 to outsell the PS3 in North America.

Burnout 3 is the greatest racer ever. It's one of the only series that makes you feel good when you crash your car.

Sonic the Hedgehog is the greatest video game character ever. If they hadn't fucked up every single 3d iteration of the series, you'd all know this.

Madden is not the best game since sliced bread. MONEY PLAYS FTW

EA Sports fucking sucks outside of Madden, NCAA football, and MVP (Which is their BEST game.). NBA Live? Almost arcade basketball, but amazingly enough the the NBA 2k VC team hasn't capitalized on this oppurtunity yet, because for some reason they have made their game completely unfun to play. NHL 200-? ESPN NHL shits all over it, it's not even an argument. NCAA march madness? a fucking clone of Live, right down to the animations/cut scenes.

Why did VC have to get the Baseball license?! ANYTHING BUT THE BASBEALL LICENSE!

Anybody that gives Halo 2 a 9 or higher should be thrown off the Golden Gate Bridge

Need for Speed hasn't been good at all after High Pursuit 2. Hopefully Most Wanted will change that

Splinter Cell SUCKS. Gimme a gun that will kill when I shoot a person in the nead point blank.

Cosplayers need to be pummeled. IT ISN'T HALLOWEEN DUMBASS.

KOTOR was slow and the combat was just plain awful. I can't believe they ruined the game with combat like that. I'm wielding a lightsaber, not a lightclub, CUT THROUGH THE ENEMY!

Where are the mind blowing stories? I'm talking something completely amazing like Memento (Not Mmemnto:the game. We need less movie games. I'm talking about stories that unfold like Memento, stuff that completely blinsides you, you know?). Sign big name hollywood writers to hand you a script or something, because stunning stories CAN be done with video games too.

Portable games suck. Get back to me when I can hold Killzone 2 graphics in the palm of my hand. In the meantime, I'll play the puzzle games on my computer and the rehashes on my older systems, kthx.

There will be less games sold if the price goes up to $60. There will be more games/systems sold if the price of the games go down to $40 or lower. I'm so uninterested in purchasing games at full price because $50 is ridiculous. Every sports should be at the most, $40. Yes,same damn game every year, blah blah, blah, they only have a very few major changes. Now that I think about it, they should be $30. Every other title should be $40 or less. The industry would be better off.

Any game that will be receiving a patch in the future should AUTOMATICALLY be discounted worldwide until the patch is released and it's accessible to every customer. It's not my fault you didn't complete the game, I'm not paying full price for an incomplete game. Finish it if you want all of the money.

Nintendo fans should chill the fuck out and buy another system.

The XBL marketplace will be the most retarded thing ever to happen to online gaming if yoy have to use actual money. If you earn "points" from the games, that's fine, but giving the rich kids all of the good shit is NOT gonna make any of us happier. FUCK MICROTRANSACTIONS.

Ninja Gaiden was hard for no reason what so ever. Great game, but hard for no good reason.

When will games be actually REALISTIC in some sense of the word? I want my sword to slice through people and if it doesn't, there should be something blocking it from happening. I want my enemies to have the same abilites as me. carry around 60 guns, grenades, rocket launchers, whatever I can do in the game, they should be able to do to. Maybe that way they'll seem less dumber when the run headfirst into my shotgun blast with their pea shooters.

Why aren't rag doll physics in every game? This shit is hilarious!

Realistic/sim racers like gran turismo are terrible because THEY'RE SLOW AS FUCK. I'm racing, I WANT TO GO FAST.

PC gaming is too expensive. Buy graphics card + probably some ram+ 1-3 games that you will be sucked into the next 2-6 months. Repeat after that's done, until a new OS ships, where you'll have to throw down even MORE to game. I'd love to play PC games, but I don't have that kind of cash.

Driv3r would've been one of the best games this gen if you could actually have fun outside of the car.

Screenshots alone are pointless. Give me videos or previews if you're gonna give out screens. otherwise, STFU.

Solder of Fortune 2 deserves a sequel. Give it to the right developers so I can blow limbs off with better, more original gameplay mechanics.

Playstations are the shittiest consoles ever made, in terms of parts. I could tear the PS2 controller in half with my hands if I really wanted to, and the connector to the TV (whatever it's called) died out recently. I don't know how, it just kept getting progressively worse over the past few months until the screen was completely fucked up beyond belief. If Sony wants to sell cheap parts, they should sell it at cheap prices.

Anybody who believes games are too violent for you are some of the most ignorant fuckers I can think of.

Anybody who treats the Tony Hawk series any different from other sports series like Madden and complain year after year about how nothing changes, either suggest what you would like to change or STFU.

Holy shit this is a long post. I'll stop now and come back later.

Controller
Hard Drive

Online

It's basically a better system

I'll give you the hard drive is awesome - especially after investing god knows how much into PSX and PS2 memory cards over the years. Not needing a memory card with the purchase of the system is nice, but when you want to transfer data from one system to another, copying to/from the memory card is handled very poorly. Some games support it and others don't, which is just stupid.

But the controller isn't that great. The S is much better than the Duke - still, the black and white buttons are placed in such an impractical location, as well as the start and back buttons.

Please don't to me about quality parts. I've owned a PSX since 96 and a PS2 since 2001, and I've had no trouble with either of them (and Sony systems are known for problems), but 2 months after I got an Xbox (Jan this year), the DVD failed me. Lucky I still was on warranty.

'Sonic' has always been a shity reactionary character, pumped out too quick and trying too blatantly hard (like a grandfather) to fit in with some 'Hip to tha MAX' audience that already has a confused and warped defenition of what "mature" is (not to mention their own personal personas).......
The game has never truely been fun outside of it as a demo displaying whatever new hardware it's on ---- There is absolutely no sense of exploration outside of forced ring-hunts - The only gameplay element that was somewhat stimulating and rewarding was the few booby-trap enemy placements and even those weren't very rewarding.

Burnout 3 is a mothefucking piece of shit as a racing game. Its racing model is fucking crap. The tracks are boring as fuck too, drifting around corners isn't anywhere near fun or rewarding in that game. The only thing that game is good at is at crashing shit. Best racing game ever? Puh-leeze, it's barely a racing game. Crash-a-ton is more like it. Overrated POS game is what it is.

Ridge Racer V 4 life. And while we're at it, another bold statement. RRV is the only fun racing game that has been released this gen. Gran Borismo games suck.
