The Burnout Revenge/Legends thread

Wait a second, 1080i?

Is this true? Does the XBOX version support resolutions above 480p? I had decided on the PS2 version as I preferred the visual effects, but if the XBOX version is in high-res, well, I'm very interested. I've never heard of that, though...

On the back of the box it says 480p. I haven't played on my HDTV yet, so not sure if the back of the box is wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

sonycowboy, you have you opinion and I have mine, but I am nowhere close to satisfied with Legends as you are. Maybe because I am used to playing the same game on a HDTV. But graphically and in since of speed, the game disappoints in my book. So far anyway.

The game looks incredible in 1080i on the xbox.

Hey, don't make this claim unless it's 100% true. I now own legends, but if this game is at 1080i and 60fps I will sacrifice Madden PSP and buy it tomorrow. Don't play with my money brother!

Revenge in many ways does make Legends feel obsolete...or rather like a novelty. Legends does deliver the trandemark franchise experience on the go with -tons- of content, speed, and serviceable framerates/visuals, but Revenge is just THAT much cooler.

FAR superior track layouts(White Mountain!! HOLY CACK!_), sublime visuals and audio(WHOOSHING!), traffic checking, vertical takedowns, forks and forks and forks, and ultra precise control. Revenge is the one to buy first.

You know what? I think that is the main problem. If I had not seen Revenge, I would appreciate Legends alot more.

My friend just called to ask which version I wanted and I picked Xbox over the PS2 for one reason only, the control. I expect the PS2 to be a bit better graphically, but the analog triggers just feels much better to me than holding X on the PS2. Wonder how the two versions compare. Can't wait to get mine.

Sorry I was on crack, when I was playing, I wanted to check the resolution so i hit the wrong button and it set it to 1080i. It's just plain 480p

No problem, that's what I figured. The reason it hyped me up is cause it seems they're trying to put out HD games now that this gen is ending (maybe it helps with BC on the 360?) The new hulk is a good example.

They should change the name of Burnout Legends to "Portable Crack." I picked it up today and I'm totally digging it. I forgot how awesome Pursuit mode is.

Legends is awesome but Revenge is a whole new breed of great. Can't believe how much better the level design is. WONDERFUL. Oh, and put to rest the fanboi fears about visuals, lack of blur, etc. I saw both today and I'm definitely glad I picked up the Xbox version for controls and sound. The effects were all there. Plus the load times were much nicer.

They really improved the sound in this game!

F*ck... I just walked out of Gamestop with a 125 dollar bill in Burnout Legends, Burnout Revenge, and Burnout 3. I couldn't justify waiting until Xbox 360 for revenge. If they improve it into a new game with new physics, I'll just buy it as well.

Burnout is by far my favorite racing franchise.

I am trying to get my wife into playing some videogames with me, and figured that the crash mode would entice her....

Most won't be as picky as me, but I too saw both today and the effects are not there. It's the same as it was in Burnout 3.

The blur is reduced and the effects aren't as nice on XBOX, but the loading is faster and you can use custom soundtracks.

Another totally minor thing...

The videos that play behind the UI are actually of higher quality on PS2. :P

Just taking a break from playing Legends (and now making dinner so I don't starve to death anytime soon) and thought I'd say that I love the game. Keep in mind though, I had only played Burnout 3, and it was only briefly, so this is all new to me! Looking forward to fuckin around with it later, getting all my golds, and checking out Revenge eventually. This is definitely a killer app for the PSP I think.

Got Legends today...... and I am loving the hell out of my PSP. It is absolutely outstanding in every way. Best portable game ever if it had infastructure mode. I'm sure the sequel will have it. Once I conquer this one, I will get Revenge when it hits the bargain bin.

PSP is really rawking now.

Legends today.

Madden 06 next week

Tiger Woods in two weeks.

And finally Virtua Tennis in three weeks.

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Revenge absolutely rocks thus far...but everyone already knows that. Track design is EXTREMELY good this time around and everything feels much more fleshed out.

I went with the PS2 version this time because, quite frankly, the differences hit me like a sack of bricks when I tested both versions. The lighting and effects are so beautiful on PS2.

However, the loading kinda bothers me. It isn't bad, but it takes exactly 10 seconds to load a race on PS2. I didn't time the XBOX version, but I'm guessing it is about half (5 seconds). Problem is, when you RETRY during a race, it reloads the level. That means 10 seconds of waiting everytime you retry. THANKFULLY, this does not apply to Crash mode, where there are no loading screens once you've entered the event (even if you keep retrying). Car selection and everything is built into Crash mode, so you can change cars without reloading.

Still, those 10 second loads on racing could end up becoming really annoying. I really wish they could have duplicated the PS2 visuals on XBOX. :\

The lighting is incredible, though. Eternal City uses this effect on the sky that gives it that "HDR" look that's starting to become more common on new hardware. This game looks so amazing in motion.

Question to the Revenge owners:

Can you change the controls? For some reason, I found it VERY uncomfortable to hold down X and press Square for drifting in the demo. I'd be perfectly happy if I could switch the gas and brake buttons, or stick the brake on a shoulder button or something.

Revenge is fantastic. Eternal City Long might very well be the greatest race track ever created in a game. The shortcuts and everything flow so freaking well.

The only problems.

-Loading after every race retry as Dark said above.

-After you retry in crash mode it does an obnoxious orange blur back to the start from the point of the crash. If you retry half way through it will orange blur pan back from where you retried. Kinda annoying, but still is better then the loading.

-Where is the single race option? I always enjoyed just going into a race on say Downtown in BO3 just for the fun of it. Unless it unlocks later I will have to go into the world tour mode, pick the level that my track is in, then find it in the city option. I REALLY REALLY hope they unlock it after you get to level 10 as it is too annoying for them to even think about doing that.

-The camara doesn't seem to show enough carnage in crash mode while everybody is smashing into each other. The camara does weird panovers that show next to no activity. I want to see the semi's smashing the shit out of everything when they hit.

Sp3eD, which version you playing?

Haven't checked yet, but I'm really enjoying using the right analog stick. Great for powersliding. I think I prefer it to using the XBOX triggers even (I'm sure you can use the right stick on that version too).

Oh I forgot one more thing, if you use first person cockpit view (like me) you have to get yourself into it at the start of each race. Unlike BO3 it doesn't save whether you were in cockpit last. People might say that is a lame gripe, but it is really annoying in crash mode when you have to concentrate on meter then hit the Y button to get yourself into the FP view. That would be something in testing that I would catch right away too....

Right, but what if you want to drift while hitting the gas? That's how I always drifted in BO2, and that seems to work best in the demo for Revenge, but that won't work with just using the stick...

Just got my copy, impressions later.

BTW, I don't have the ps2 online kit but i have a pstwo.. how can i get online?

Just wanted to add, no replays!! Damn, that sucks. Really wish they could of got those in.

Also, I have to echo speed's comments. The camera in crash mode doesn't show nearly enough action/carnage...quite disappointing really. Also crash mode has been reduced to 30fps :/ Great game, but I still think BO2 had perfected crash mode but they just keep fucking with it.

You just flick the stick back to lose the grip on your tires and you'll go into a drift. You only let off gas for a split second to do this. Works perfectly.

Shit, that's right. I was so concerned with loading that I forgot about the 30 fps in crash mode. That really sucks too. Which version you playing? I wonder if it's 30 fps in both versions?

not having a single race option, if it's truely not there, is a fucking retarded design decision. as alot of times i just jump in to do some crash junctions. i dont want to fuck with menu's just to play a bunch in a row...

otherwise all my gripes with this game relate to crash mode. whatever dev said that this crash mode was the type they were aiming to do with part 2 is out of thier goddamn mind. YOU GOT IT RIGHT IN 2, STOP FUCKING WITH IT.

and to answer my own questions...

no custom soundtrack in crash mode

no initials for high scores in crash mode (well, with no single race option this is a gimme)

NO SAVING SOUND SETTINGS, FUCK YOU EA TRAX! DIE!

also, 8 page manual. haha

Got another question.. does the game allow for multiple player profiles? It seems every game I've picked up recently doesn't, which is a just plain stupid omission, IMO.

Yes. 3 or 4 I can't remember.

I got this game tonight and have this to add.

TEH FUN

BO3 was my first Burnout game, still haven't played 1 or 2, but this one pretty much seems like a tweaked and polished 3, which is fine by me. It's just plain fun to play.

I think this is just a get to level 10 then unlock it. They left far to much room on the menu for it to not be there. Honestly that would be the biggest dissapointment for me in this game. Multiplayer has the single race format so why can't I?

I got both Burnout Revenge for PS2 and Burnout Legends for PSP today.

I've invested more time into Burnout Revenge so far, mostly with the offline mode, but I did jump online for a few games also. BR seems to be a little more challenging than its predecessors. From what I've seen so far, the new track designs practically beg you to learn the shortcuts. They're "learnable" in that San Francisco Rush kind of way, where the locations are sometimes rather obvious (many of them are marked with blue flashing lights), though you probably won't get to access them the first time you notice them since you're already whizzing past them at 160 MPH on the main road by the time you have to react. But, the second or third time around, you might want to venture off the safe path and take some risks.

There was one track in BR that I just kept felt compelled to replay repeatedly for about 20 minutes, until I finally got the gold medal and the five-star "Awesome" rating. It's like Kurt Angle and Rob Van Dam put together! :D

As far as Burnout Legends goes, it took a bit more time for me to get into it, probably because I had to readjust for the B3-style play mechanics (no traffic checking). That, and the analog nub doesn't seem quite as precise as the analog stick on a Dual Shock 2 (probably because it doesn't have as much "throw"). Once you get to grips with the analog nub, you'll find it's a reasonable facsimile of the B3 engine, and you'll be pulling off Takedown Rampages while weaving between traffic with the precision of a surgeon.

Both games are strongly recommended for anyone who likes racing games, or just video games in general. :)

Wrong about what? Dark10x asked what version I was playing to find out if both versions' crash mode is 30fps.

They are.

Oops, my mistake, I had no idea you replied to Dark10x. :lol :lol

Ive played both, I love legends to death. And revenge is different enough from Takedown and Legends to not really bother me. Legends is an amazing handheld achievement

HOLY F**K this game rocks. My only complaint is that I don't care for the cars they created. Everything else has been improved upon. I'll give more details tomorrow.

FUCK

Why have they taken out the replay mode out of the series that was last in Burnout 2 and WHY have they fucked up the crash mode again? Jesus..

And after reading the IGN review and I'm disapointed that a lot of the tension of avoiding traffic is lessened again from Burnout 3 because of the ability to "check" the same way traffic.

Still I'm looking forward to the new graphic style, vertical takedowns, and awesome sounding track design with alternative routes and jumps.

My dream Burnout game is Burnout 1/2 track design and track levels + Burnout 3's takedowns + Burnout 4's track design + vertical takedowns + Burnout 2 crash mode with aftertouch! Too much to ask?

As good a place as any to mention it: I've had my DS for about 2 weeks now. Interestingly, it has more dead pixels (at least 4) than my PSP does (1 noticeable).

Pretty sure Nintendo has a zero tolerance policy for dead pixels, I'm probably wrong though.

Revenge is great! But, I'll probably sell it in a week just because it will be just as great when it's $20 in 4 months.
