The Burnout Revenge/Legends thread

Yea, the signature takedowns elude me. I think I've only gotten 7/24 so far, still have a ways to go in the game though.

Bought Revenge yesterday and have only played 30 mins. so far thanks to GAF TGS. In any case though, the first thing I was looking for was simply choosing a track, a game type and jump right in to play like other racing games. I didn't find anything like that though, as it seems like my only option is go through the career mode. Is this how burnout always works? (this is the my first burnout)

No, every other Burnout you can single race in any mode you want. I have no freaking clue why they did this. My only hope is it shows up after you beat it, but sadly when you go into the records and look at the traffic attack it lists them by Rank. That tells me that it probably isn't in there :( Dumbest idea freaking ever.

Legends is fuckin awesome, thats all I have to say about that. Almost finished the muscle series o cars. Gonna try out the Ad Hoc gameshare mode later tonight.

It really, really is. Now if I want to do a burning lap on say White Mountain I have to memorize what rank that race is under. Not to mention crash junctions. They are all over the place in those ranks, plus I have to memorize the City name they take place in, as well as the name of the junction.

I just don't understand how nobody would have pointed this out to them. Kind of like that cockpit saver I was talking about earlier in the thread. You would think somebody would notice a feature that was missing from BO3.

OK, potential issue? Just got back to my HDTV finally...and I see absolutely no option to switch the PS2 version over to 16:9. It DOES support it...right?

If not... :\

edit - OK, nevermind. Seems you have to set your PS2 menu to 16:9 (in the System Config options). Very odd...but it looks great.

OMG, I just did the Eliminator on White Mountain....

That is an AWESOME track. The tracks remind me alot of old school Need For Speed.

I got Revenge for Xbox and the crash mode needs a tutorial. I blew my engine before I moved a inch. I do enjoy blowing up the Madden Bus tho :).

How much improved are the graphics in PS2 revenge of PS2 burnout 3? I had burnout 3 for xbox, and got this for PS2, and the graphics seem like a rather substantial improvement. Even the image quality seems better...which is about the last thing I expected.

Oh yea...and the game absolutely owns.

A tutorial plays before you play a crash round for the first time, actually.

A lot of the effects in Revenge were present in BO3 on PS2...but not on XBOX. The PS2 game really does look quite a bit better in motion...but the extra loading is really bothersome (though they both take their sweet time).

I just found that out....all my play was from online play. If i'm getting fucked over might as well go all out.

Loving Revenge so far. I don't like not being able to control my speed in Crash mode, but I like all the other changes there. The only thing that bugs me (and bugged me in 3 as well) is I wish there was some kind of little map, or SOMETHING that tells you how far along you are on a lap/race. I hate losing long 1 lap races because I don't know how close I am to the end, and not knowing to change my strategy accordingly. Load times are also a bitch on PS2, but eh.

Because I haven't posted in this thread yet, and I got it Wednesday, I feel I need to.

Revenge is the racing game I've ever played. I don't care that it's not realistic either. I like racing sims and arcade racers, and this one just takes the fucking cake.

I'm wowed every moment I'm playing it.

Also, I love that the AI is more agressive in this one than BO3...and it's evident. They actually have fucked me over many times, especially in Eliminator. Those bastards.

Oh, I got it for the Xbox, and I'm having a wonderful time playing it on Live...

if anyone wants to play send me a friend request: elitefew

I played Road Rage with 5 people last night and it was awesome. I felt like it was actually a team. No bitching or complaining, just plain fun. I like how they have the distances set up and now you can finally see who's talking. It's just intense.

Dark10x, check your PMs, you have to give me an answer.

It is really hard to get takedowns on the PSP for me....I was pretty good at it on PS2.
I just do the same things I do on the console versions. Slam into them from all sides, any time I can. Works fine for me, I don't think I've had any significant problems with any takedown challenges in Legends so far.

highest takedown count I got was in the compact series, like 27 in a race. The funny thing was at about 20 it seemed like the AI was ganging up on me haha.

From what I can see in Revenge, they did the takedowns much better then either #3 or Legends. Harder to get them on computer players, easier on humans.

BO3 online it was next to impossible to take others down.

I'm level 8 in Revenge now, and is it only me who thinks the game seems shorter than BO3? Or is it? I still have a lot of "stars" to collect or whatever, but I'm a "Maniac- Level 8" already, even though I still haven't finished a lot of stuff from level 3 and 4. It's getting harder too. The crashbreaker while racing is brilliant.

i think burnout revenge is too easy. i'm at around 60%, less than 8 hours in and 10th ranking. Road Rage seems way too easy this time. the time limit isn't even an issue since you get ridiculous time extensions for every 3 takedowns or whatever. i actually had like 300 seconds on the clock left when i got a gold medal rating in one of the road rage events. the traffic attack events are a joke too.

i love crash mode though. some people find the wind annoying (huahuah) but it seems fine to me. crash events are more strategic this time. new eliminator mode rocks since there's a greater chance of losing this time. but yeah...this game does feel kinda short...or easy.

Ok, here's a question. How do you create a different online profie for a different game profile? I went through the process for my profile, but even under my gf's game, it still automatically signs on as me. Please tell me that we can't have more than one login per memory card...

EDIT: Well, it looks like you can't have more than one login per memory card. I tried creating a new one and it warned me that it would overwrite the old one, which is downright stupid. Why not allow more than one per card, and have the player pick, or at least allow one per savegame? Just one more in what is looking to be a long line of stupid little design decisions in the game.

How do you create a new "persona"? I go to the EA thing and on the "select a persona" screen, it only gives me the option of selecting the one persona I did make and editing my account info (password, email, etc). I didn't see anything pertaining to making a new persona.

I know the answer to this is probably no, but I just have to ask:

Can you play music off your memory stick instead of EA Trax in Legends? That would rule.

Okay, the Burnout Legends DS movies link on IGN DS? Still not working.

It's been on the main page since Thursday.

What the fuck.

just got to the elite ranking

events completed: 118/169
gold medals: 85/169
percentage complete: 67%

play time: 9 hours 10 minutes

and i havent even gone online yet, or touched rankings 9&10

the game is not without some interesting glitching. i've fallen through the stages a few times, and i just launched over one of those yellow guiding edges. which i suppose shouldnt be able to happen. :lol

The crash replay camera is so f*cked... how could they miss that? The best part of the crash was afterwards flying all the way over the carnage.... <sigh>

Having not read this thread I'll make this comment... please tell me I'm not the only 'tard who didn't realize you could check traffic in crash mode as well? For a few events I'm wondering why the hell the launches are sooo long and why there is so much traffic in the way... until I accidently checked one... it just never clicked in my head before that...

It's weird they removed the multipler from crash mode which stopped making it easy to get those high points and which gave you a single target to focus on, but so far of the crash modes I've done if you cause a decent size pile up in the direction the target car is coming from you're guaranteed to get a decent multipler when it hits.... oh well the crash environments seem much more varied this time.. but yeah this game could have used a little more time in the cooking pot... still mad fun though.

So I borrowed Burnout Legends from a buddy having never played any of the games in the series and I can pretty much say I'm not impressed..are the console games any different? Also 30fps hurts my eyes after being spoiled by RR.

Besides crash mode, is online play always 1 team racing while the other team attempts to eliminate them? That's all I could find. I was looking for standard race or road rage mode w/o teams.

Well, to draw a comparison to Burnout 3 - which Legends is pretty much based on with tracks and cars from 1 and 2 thrown in -, the console version is 60fps, has more player cars in a race which results in more combat and better Elimination races, and visually the console version has a streaking blur effect just like nitrous boost in Ridge Racer psp.

Otherwise, Legends is a pretty good example of the Burnout experience. If you don't like it, BO3/Revenge may not work either - though they will look a lot better and provide a better sense of speed, power, and "rush".

I just unlocked level 10 and I had the game since Friday afternoon :D

I don't know how you guys are flying through this game so quick. I am almost at level 10 and I have played for over 16 hours.

Maybe one or two of that was online, but majority was doing several races that I liked over and over. Time Trail for White Mountain forward I have done like 30 times. Love that track :)

I've got this game coming in the mail via Gamefly. I can't wait to finally try this series out, I didn't really find out about it until a few months ago and decided to wait for a PSP version to land... and now the wait is almost over...

I believe you are indeed the only tard. Speaking of which, did you know that you can still flu all the way over the carnage? :p

Crash mode is messed up though.

Got my first Triple Payback a minute ago...that was sweet. :)

I'm 6 hours in, thirty-something percent, almost at the end of Insane ranking. I don't know how some of you guys move so fast.

I have more trouble with the Crash events than anything else...much harder than BO3, IMO. I really don't enjoy them to start with, but I'm going for 100%, which I didn't really bother trying to get with 3.

I have 9 of the 24 Signature Takedowns.

54% or so done, everything is 'perfect' up to and including Rank 6. It was about this point I quit and sold BO3 last year, but I mostly thought that one was an overrated turd, unlike this game.

It is pretty easy though, I find it never takes more than 3 attempts at the most to perfect a challenge. Most often I nail 5-stars on the first try. Burning Lap usually takes a few attempts, and crash mode is pretty much trial and error to figure out, but it's been smooth sailing with no real hangups.

I feel like I'll never complete the signature takedowns though, even knowing exactly where they are, it is dreadfully hard to make em happen.

I could really go for a Carl's Jr. hamburger. Or a Gibson guitar.

... But anyway, some I think is improved from 3 and some is worse. I still love the Crash Mode, but sweet hell does that camera suck. Not only do they focus too much on my car after it's wrecked, they'll flip the angle around, completely screwing you up for moving yourself in a specific direction after a Crashbreaker explosion.

Hated traffic check at first, now I'm a convert. Traffic check rules!

Is it just me or do the cars seem lighter and floatier? The game is also mmmmmuch easier than last year.

Wha? That's like saying, "I think oranges suck, but man do I love tangerines." It's practically the same thing. I'd love to hear an explaination behind that.

Wasn't a fan at all of the rigid track layouts, severe rubberbanding, poor camera functionality, superficial driving physics(powerslides for one are a myth), and of course the lackluster online support. If I wanted to drive a virtual car real fast, there are far better alternatives.

This year the tracks are actually awesome. The 'banding is more meaningful given the tilted focus on aggressive play than a dodgy game of survival. The camera still could use some work, but at least powersliding is more functional. Oh and online play has been buttah smooth in my experience.

I'm having fun this year basically.

Can ANYONE get gold on Paradise Peril in Legends? I've tried this shit for like three hours and it's fucking impossible

I did :D

That one was a fucking bitch Im trying to get in to see how i did it. What I did was I came in clipped an oncoming car at an angle to where I could get the the front of the line of cars going left then used the after touch to slide into the cars then eventually I blew up next to the tanker... Took atleast 20 tries.

Shit sorry that was the next ones in the same city...

I just slid and hit the explosion and then got the other cars in a dog pile. You cant hit them dead on you have to kinda drift into everything and try to hit the front of the line, but keep your car in the fuckfest you can blow them all away, however you need to make sure you get that oil tanker that comes up.

I got 395k when i tried it again its achieveable... trust me they are all fucking bitches after that one.

Edit: Tropical Storm fucking sucks

Hit the nail on the head, really. The game's starting to remind me of Battlefield 1942, in that it has its shining moments of fun, but there's just so many stupid issues that it drags the experience down.

My biggest beef is what has to be the skimpiest console manual of I've ever seen, especially when it comes to online play. The stuff about progression levels and rankings isn't explained at all, and from what I can tell, your progression level restarts every time you log off, which is just plain stupid. After some playing yesterday, we ended up being able to play up to level 4, yet after I log in today, I'm starting over at 1. Ugh. And apparently you can't access multiple online profiles with a single memory card.. stupid, stupid, stupid.

Not only that, but the game does some damn weird things when it comes to its attempts at balance. I've noticed that when I'm way out in the lead, I gain boost slower than I would if I weren't in first. This is all well and good, but the ability to gain boost stays low even if the other person is right on your ass, giving them a huge advantage. Not only that, but there's often way too much of a penalty for crashing if you're in the lead. I don't mind a little setback... I did slam into a bus, after all, but I've been 2,000+ feet in front of everybody before, crash, and get put back 2,000 feet behind the last person in the pack, which is just plain overkill. It's not so bad in the first lap or so, but when it happens near the end of the race, when you've got zero chance of recovery, it sucks.

Exactly what's the best way to do actually hit the other cars, anyway? Every time I hit another player online, they barely even budge, yet when I get slammed, I tend to completely lose control of the car and sent into the nearest wall. Along those lines, how do you takedown a person just by hitting them? It happens all the time to me, where I'll be cruising along, and somebody will ram me from behind, instantly taking me down.

Also, how do you do a quick start? Every race I've played online, the other players are usually way into the distance while I'm still peeling out on the starting line.

I'm with you. I've got so many fucking 395-398k totals it's ridiculous. I got one 388k and I missed the damn gold medal to give me another 20k. I'm pretty sure you have to hit the bronze, gold, explosion medal, have your vehicle go into the front of the line of traffic on the left, and then have some of those cars fly into the right lane for the two tankers and the two trucks behind them, which I have done MANY times, but still haven't hit the 400k total yet.

I wish they showed the damage to each individual vehicle like on the console so that you could see which ones are dragging you down. I know the tankers are going to be more, but if I hit them head on for massive damage and wait for the traffic on the right to come to them, I only get like 380k, max.

Anybody else wanna help us out here??? Please.

No offense, but I'm thinking your complaints have to do with play style more than the game. Or at least I'm not having the same issues. Between using all my burst, crazy driving, etc. it's not that hard to keep boost in the lead. And I haven't had much discrepancy in my takedowns. But um..yea, I guess the manual is bad.

Quick start= Hold down brake and gas....when "3" appears, let off brake and rev tires continually. When "1" is about to change to go, let off gas and then slam gas. You'll have the timing in a few races.
