This is getting weirder all the time
What do you have against Murray?

I can't put my finger on it exactly, but I just don't want him to win Wimbledon

Probably because everyone here will never stop going on about it (foreigner living in UK) as if he's the best player ever when he's only won one slam.

John Dunbar

correct about everything
I for one am now on the Federer-Murray final bandwagon, though I don't believe it has a chance of happening unless someone drops a bomb on Djokovic.

If this guy was young I would have said he was the next Becker. The last and only time I saw someone overpower Nadal like that was Soderling, but he could only do it that one year and could not sustain it.

Murray just making the final would be such drama, if he faces Joker it will likely be a 3 or 4 sets loss but still. He faces Fed I think he could take him in 5 sets, maybe even less and I am a Fed fan.

"It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration... I knew he would try something". - Rosol's comment when he was asked about the bump Nadal gave him.

You need to watch Delpo/Nadal US Open 2009.

He not only beat him. He absolutely DESTROYED Rafa Nadal, straight sets.

Just saw this in the Wimbledon live text :D

22:13 Lukas Rosol is playing Wimbledon for the first time. He's the world No.100. He lost 6-0, 6-0, 6-2 to Philipp Petzschner in the first round of the Australian Open in January. He didn't even qualify for Eastbourne last week. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

Did anybody see Nadal pick up Rosol's racquet after the match ended? A fine gesture. Yeah he engages in gamesmanship but overall I think he's a gracious man.

It's the same with every country's Great Hope, dude. You would not believe the amount of false hype Tim Henman got for years on end*.

*I know he also reached world number 4 but the level of competition was nowhere near as interesting and intense as it is now.

holy shit at rosal taking out nadal. What were the betting odds on that one? That last game was killer.

and does anyone know what happened to sharapova? The match was stopped yesterday but I didn't see it happen today (i recorded the whole thing). Did they even show it?

The English media in particular has a nasty habit of hyping up the English (or in this case, British) representatives at any major tournament, and then rip them to shreds when they inevitably fail. You'll get used to it.

But Henman was such a lovable brand of underdog. Beautiful touch, crisp volleys, graceful, and hopeless under pressure. Liable to double fault at crucial times. Even I always cheered for him, and I'm not even from the UK.

She beat Pironkova 6-0 in the 3rd. She lost the 2nd set they resumed even though she had been up a break. They showed the 3rd set here after the Williams match and before Murray's one.

Glad Nadal lost, he skipped the entire indoor season for a reason last year, when that roof closed he had to be thinking "oh.....shit". If he could have gotten through the first week where the court is still somewhat fast he would have been fine on the virtual clay offered in week 2, but Rosol said no!

Mowgli can not handle handle actual grass. It's a disgrace that the All England Club allowed him to win this tournament. For the past few Championships Mowgli has increased his gamesmanship in faking injuries and time wasting, glad it was more blatant for all to see today. When playing on real grass, he looks like a dickless men flailing around trying to have sex.

Well, yeah. On the traditional grass of the 80's and 90's, Nadal would have little chance. Like all the other clay court specialists of the day (this type of game is now called an all court player in today's modern top spin fest) he'd be routinely bounced in the first or second round, or he'd just skip it entirely and whine and complain like most of the clay barons did back then.

Rosol will most likely lose in the next round to Philipp Kohlschreiber. Too many times have top 10-ers been upset by nobodies, who don't even make a deep run in the tournament.

If he's put on a smaller court, Rosol has no chance. He obviously thrives when he has a big crowd on his side.

Yeah I feel the same way. But I would love to be wrong and see this guy become the next star.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Unreal performance from Rosol. Cannot believe he pulled it off.

And Nadal complaining about Rosol "bouncing" and then his deliberate bump during the changeover were cherries on top for this incredible upset, hahaha.

Wow, amazing day at the Wimbledon.

Haha, I always find it hard to reconcile your name and your opinion about Rafa.

Damn 11 footfaults!? I rarely hear that called during a match. 11 times really!?

Supposedly later in the match he was standing a couple of inches behind the baseline to avoid that and the foot faults were still called. They were also called 4 times when Jamie Hampton (American) was playing a local girl Heather Watson. Very questionable. I hope they'll launch investigation in both cases, really fishy situation.

Rankings update:

-With Nadal's 2nd round loss, he falls to No. 3 (losing 1,115 points) and now has 8,905 points.
-Fed moves up to No. 2 (currently has 9,300)...and can reach No. 1 ONLY by winning Wimbledon.
-Murray will probably remain at No. 4 but CANNOT move to No. 3, even if he wins Wimbledon.
-Djokovic will keep his No. 1 ranking by making the final. Even if he loses today, Fed still has to win the whole thing to get to No. 1.

WTA:
-Azarenka regains #1 if she goes one round deeper than Sharapova; in case Radwanska wins the title, Azarenka needs to reach the final (in which case Radwanska would not win the title anyway)
-Radwanska becomes #1 if she wins the final against someone other than Azarenka
-in any other case Sharapova remains #1

As I said in the French Open thread - Any good results from Sharapova from now on is a bonus to me.. but I would really like to avoid Radwanska as #1. That's a priority.

It would be a thing of beauty if Fed manages to get to the top of the throne again, even if it's only a short while and even if the difference in points is really small (provided he and Djokovic duke it out on the way there--which is something that in all likelihood will happen but then again who knows.... someone might pull another Rosol against either or even both of them)

Karlovic is accusing the line judges of favouring Murray after they called Ivo for 11 foot faults D:

From the Beeb:
"Right now I'm angry about it because I don't expect it here," he added.

"Even though it is against English guy who they always want to win, but I don't expect it here."

I'm curious now, because how that's phrased sounds like there's somewhere where he *does* expect it.

John Dunbar

correct about everything
Are there any videos of Karlovic's foot faults? Since there's cameras all over the place, should't it take about 5 minutes to find out were they legit?

What if.. the law tennis association has deleted all video recordings of all the foot faults?

Which UK do you live in? No one likes the guy in Scotland.

i wouldn't derive the implication that favoritism among line judges happens at other places. I think he means that of all the places of something like that to happen, Wimbledon was the last place he would expect this to occur

He is just saying that this would be the last place where he would expect false calls. After all, this is the most prestigious tennis tournament.

edit: it looks like perfectchaos beat me.
