The Criterion Collection in 2012/13: Why haven't they released *insert title here*?

Just an FYI and invite to the alternative Criterion forum, Criterionforums.com:

We just launched our front page recently, it was a pretty big step for us. Since I've already rubbed elbows with a few here on GAF I thought I might mention our site (just noticed this thread).

Cool. Bookmarked.

Also, am I the only one who feels like the 50% off sale is kind of worthless when you have to pay $4 to $5 for shipping and you could just buy it on Amazon for $2 or $3 more at most times?

Yeah, it kinda forces you to do a $50 + order,

OMG.

Also make sure you fools check out Criterion on Hulu, they put up like 6 or 7 movies for free every week, usually with a theme.

Sweet. Should coincide nicely with the 47 new Malick features coming next year.

My reasoning skills are so off. I saw the picture and all I could come up with was "Bad Sheep...Black Sheep?"

its been well worth $9 a month so far for me.. one less pint of alcohol a month

i already have like 40 movies in my favorite/queue (dont know what the difference between these is) and i seem to find stuff everyday .. they have like all the bergman, kurosawa, godard films among others

the quality is top notch

when i was a kid i rerecorded porno over a copy of Black Sheep, figuring noone in my family would ever spring for that off my shelf... so its always been a bit of a favorite film of mine [/truestorygaf]

I would be offended at someone taping over a film so essential to the spade/farley oeuvre but I'm more fascinated at the idea of having to tape pornos, what was this the 50s

Surfing mystery tapes is how it was done, especially those found off the beaten path.

The internet was such a #gamechanger, you really don't have to try anymore.

The only reason I remember that movie because that was the first film Gene Siskel walked out in 16 years.

It's certainly no Tommy Boy!

edit: Where's the Tommy Boy Criterion release!?

Badlands, is as my friend described, "Pretty much, a perfect film." Like a modern take on Bonnie and Clyde, "based on a true story", and shot almost entirely during "golden hours".

Has Criterion released other Godzilla movies in the past?
Sorry I could go look, but this is a discussion board...

Just wondering if they'll release more, or if they only do the first one for it's historical significance?

The closest thing they have coming up is the Shochiku Eclipse. I think they've opened the gates for more kaiju with Godzilla and that Eclipse set, and I expect them to release at least one more film from Ishirô Honda.

Hulu Plus just put up a couple unreleased (in the U.S. anyways) Yasujiro Ozu films. I watched the Brothers and Sisters of the Toda Family, and really liked it. This line really cracked me up:

"You know, we must take good care of ourselves."
"We must. If we die, we can't drink."

God, I love Ozu.

No, and more no.

Loosely based on a true story, check
Bonnie and Clyde influence, check
Many scenes shot during sunset hours, check

What am I missing?

You are changing the quote, it doesn't have many if any actual magic hours shots, but it's clearly not a more modern take on bonnie and clyde especially compared to the aruther penn movie.

It's great and everyone should see it buy that quote is absurd.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Is anyone a big fan of World on a Wire? I really do like the little Fassbinder I've seen so far, but is this sci-fi or something?

MAGIC HOUR MOMENTS (1973 to 2011) from Film Director TERRENCE MALICK
"His use of natural lighting (particularly at dawn and sunset) is legendary."

I agree I changed my quote because the whole movie was not shot entirely during sunset, but like many of Malick's films a lot of scenes were. And this being his first film, he used the technique extensively. Enough so that it can't be understated.

On a non pissing contest note, I just saw the Lawrence of Arabia restoration and was floored. Amazing, everyone should make time and see it, quickest four hours you'll ever spend in a theater.

I'm watching The Conformist the night LoA is playing in LA.

Just saw this myself. Beautiful film, and very moving. Interestingly, I see more of Make Way for Tomorrow in this than Tokyo Story.

It's sci-fi, and definitely worth your while.

If you're like me you have a stash of unwrapped discs of shame.

Not only do I have a VERY LARGE stack of unwrapped discs of shame, I also have a copy of the film Shame I have yet to watch haha. I literally have two shelves devoted to Criterion films and one half of it is film's I have seen and the other half is films I haven't (all in spine number order of course).
