Houston, Canada, New York, I’m sure other places as well, this has been a rough summer, wait, summer hasn’t even technically started, WTF?

Stay safe and hydrated, everyone.

Can’t imagine 118f in a humid place like Houston. Sounds like hell even for a hot place like Texas.
That's what I was just thinking. I stupidly didn't think humidity would be a big deal on the area north of Houston before I moved there. I had lived in new Orleans right before that so that was a giant brain fart.

There was a historic drought when I was there a decade ago. It'll be interesting to see how many people move away from the southern heat on the next 2 decades

Sweden, Stockholm, "only" 80F with 100% humidity.. I am dying. It goes from -20 to 90's in just a few months, I friggin' hate it, lol..

Serious question. Have you ever checked out an almanac from like a hundred+ years ago and compared temperature variations between then and now? You’d find temps and variation are pretty much the same.

I have a friend who loves to comment on days we have unseasonal weather followed with the obligatory climate change comment. So i love to look at an almanac and be like “aaaaactually…the record temp for this day in February was 102F in 1877!”

Yeah obvs use less plastic, don’t litter, don’t be wasteful, love the earth, etc. but also don’t try to pretend you’re some climate expert because you read some propaganda headlines. At least do some research instead of just blindly regurgitating buzz words about something you really don’t know dick about.

I have melanin so lol at skin cancer, shorts and linen or cotton shirts year round unless it gets below 16°c

Cancer has nothing to do with it. Clothing blocks sunlight and absorbs heat before it hits the skin. Uniqlo or similar innerwear, loose pants/jeans, and a shirt keep you pretty cool. I only wear shorts in the evening, while playing sports, or when I know I'm going to be purely aircon.

People with more melanin are less likely to develop skin cancer. Anyways enjoy the heat in your jeans

Most of the people living around the equator aren't white yet the standard of dress is basically similar. Melanin doesn't change physics. People who wear long sleeves and loose layers are going to be cooler than people getting exposed to direct sunlight. I do enjoy the heat in my sensible and fashionable outfits though.

I think the problem with doing your own research is that you're probably not very good at it. And I don't mean that as a pejorative. Sitting at Google and searching "world temperature stats" isn't the same as being an expert on a subject and on many, many things people are much more prepared to accept expert advice rather than just google. When you're talking about what only a fool would say is not potentially a really big problem then perhaps doing your own research isn't the ideal way to go about it.

The question to probably ask yourself is "Under what circumstance would I accept that climate change is real, and a big problem"

Lots of people might say "when the experts unanimously agree." And when it comes to climate change, we are essentially there. Of course, there are some people arguing that climate change is neither real, nor a problem, but when you look to the experts and agencies that we routinely expect to respect the judgement of, it's quite clear that consensus is that climate change should be taken seriously and that your advice to "not litter" isn't going to touch the sides, unfortunately.

It's interesting how quickly things seem to be changing, when you point at floods, droughts, extreme heat warnings, crops being destroyed by crazy hail, etc. then it's easy to say "we've had floods, so what?" Because it does seem that those are events that we've had experience of before, but that they haven't all necessarily happened in the same year, or even within weeks of each other. While the world may have bounced back from events like these in the past, how many of them occuring almost simultaneously can be dealt with?

“Doing your own research” to most people just means reading some articles or watching YouTube videos from both political sides of an issue. You don’t understand anything that way besides two sets of talking points that you’ll flip a coin between based on what sounds more persuasive.

Gotta learn science formally.
