The Dead Pixel PSP Issue: Fact or Fiction?

Nintendo is very generous for doing that, and to be honest with you I am appalled by the amount of LCD manufacturers that basically don't want to hear any complaints about a couple dead pixels. Their excuse is that it's a new technology and is simply expected to happen. Customer Service for various companies that sell LCD's have used this as an excuse, and in my opinion, that's beyond unacceptable. That's like saying I can't take back a car for having the door fall off while I drive it, because it was put together by a machine that uses new technology.

Yeah, I pretty much agree. Over the course of just under 3 months, I was annoyed by a dead pixel just off the right side of the top screen. For one reason or another, I was unable to exchange the unit at the place of purchase (Target) and finally contacted NoA. They agreed to a free repair, paid shipping there, AND shipping back.

To top it all off, I got my NDS back on morning of the THIRD day after I had sent it... and it was a brand new unit, not my defective one. They even threw in a free stylus, so now I have 3 instead of 2.

That's pretty insane.

I had exactly ONE dead pixel, btw.

Wow, that's going above and beyond. Free shipping, too? Very, very generous.

Can still get unlucky though - what's worse I recently had this bizarre experience of using a Samsung CRT with a bad pixel smack in the middle of the screen.

Yes - while it's highly unlikely to happen since the reasons are completely unrelated, CRTs can have stuck pixels too (at first freaked out it could be my graphic card though).

FAFALADA!!!!
A dead pixel on a CRT? That's rare... weird. BTW, your old friend Deadmeat is at it again on a couple forums. He's on a mission to destroy CELL, just like he wanted to tear the EE and GS to pieces.. PM me if you want some links. I believe he posted at Beyond3D with a different username, but a mod still called him out as Deadmeat, because his posting methods are so obvious. :lol Funny stuff.

Hey Diablos, how's it goin? :)

Yeah it's quite rare, that's why I was worried for my 6800GT at first :P. It basically means that you've got a bad phosphor on that spot, and if that happens I would imagine it's more likely to be more like a blob of multiple pixels, but in my case it was just one (still annoying as heck, I replaced the screen).

Saw DM rampaging on B3D - his very first post he already gave himself out by how he addressed Kutaragi. ;) Didn't know he's doing that on other forums too though - funny thing is all the people that were in ISSCC are telling him he's wrong and he still ignores it.

It's goin', I guess.

Haha, you seriously need to join a forum where DM posts and start proving him wrong again. It'll be like 1999-2000 all over again. I have been waiting years for this, don't let me down! ;) (just kidding)

It's worth noting, I think, that Nintendo has an absolute zero-tolerance policy in regards to dead pixels in the NDS. I know, I can vouch for said policy.

Don't forget that the DS uses two very cheap displays whereas the PSP is using an LCD typically on found on more expensive devices (such as higher end laptops). I'd imagine that they are accepting LCDs with some dead pixels in order to keep the cost down.

Of course, we also know that Nintendo is the king of customer service in the console world. They crush the competition in that regard. I purchased my GC used even, simply due to the fact that I trusted the product and their customer service (should there be a problem). I'd NEVER purchase a used PS2 or XBOX, however...

Just gave Pana's PSP the once over and it's a perfect unit.

I am jack's seething jealousy.
How comes the real fanboys don't get burnt? ;)

Might it be Kutaragi's appreciation for a person who loves technology and SCE's presence and impact in the field a lot ;) ?
