The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Jackfrags just said on stream, he is waiting for that 50 min footage to be processed in 1440p and 60fps. So youtube then increases the bitrate because of the 1440p.

It makes perfect sense if you'd ever done P&P Role play. Nothing I've said is out of keeping with what you'll find at Wikipedia on the subject tbh. The modern confusion largely has arisen because the whole acquisition 'levels and loot' model from D&D has become a computer game design staple to the point where it seems natural from a marketing perspective to tack 'RPG' onto the end in the sales pitch in lieu of 'action adventure' even if there's not actually any role playing or choice and consequence in the traditional sense with regard to player agency in a product.

I have to disagree. Even when you discuss PnP RPG's, D&D in particular has had plenty of Publisher campaigns that are considered "Railroad" wherein you have the illusion of choice but in reality must follow a set path to advance.

However that really isn't as relevant as what the commonly used terminology is for specific game systems. Many PnP RPG's utilize a system where damage and healing are determined by 1dX = the result range. This is true of The Division. Many PnP RPG's utilize Category Stats that determine profeciency in a variety of abilities. This is true of The Division. Many PnP RPG's award Experience Points for accomplishing Quests and defeating enemies. This is true of The Division. Many PnP RPG's offer Loot rewards for completely quests and deafeating enemies. This is true of The Division. Many PnP RPG's have gear and items that influence the statistical outcome of actions. This is true of The Division.

So it's safe to say that The Division uses systems heavily derived from PnP RPG's. Hence the use of the RPG label because "Third Person Action Adventure Shooter with RPG Systems" is rediculously long and obnoxious.

You're free to personally disagree with the label of RPG as it's commonly been used in Video Games for 30 some odd years but to state that it's objectively incorrect is ridiculous. Nobody is confused by the label as it's used. Everyone understands exactly what it means.

I am really not liking the bullet sponge effect of enemies

What's the difference between an Ogre or a Demon taking multiple hits than some guy dressed up in modern day clothes? Even in Borderlands you had to hit the enemy several times if you didn't outnumber their level? I keep seeing this being said and I wonder what it really implies? Of course they're going to be sponge. The player is a sponge with shields. I can honestly bet there's some superior sections where one hit head shots are one right after the other. Unless of course I'm wrong?

It's an OWTPSRPG

And people need to fucking move on if they can't get it.

Its been stated for the last 2.....now going on 3 years that it's an RPG first and foremost. Meaning enemies will take longer then real life to kill and have health bars. I hope these people bitching Also complain when goblins don't die by one swing of their sword in other games, or why does the main character take godly amounts of bullets in GTA when he should die in one shot.

If they complain about sponges in an RPG game they better be bitching about all the flaws in every other non realistic game.

This. Ubisoft has made it clear what this game is.

Yep. But I think the problem is for some (or maybe a lot of) gamers they feel putting a full clip into a human that is running at them with no armor, takes them out of their experience. As opposed to having an alien run at them taking a full clip because that's "realistic" (Lol).

Go to paint A, kill everything.
Now go to point B and kill everything.
Now go to point C kill everything.
Now go to points DEFGHIJKL and you guessed it, kill everything.
Tired of that shit.

If you break it down, that's pretty much what most games entail. Repetitive sets in if the surrounding content isn't well made and varied. If you tear down all of that, most games are pretty damn repetitive.

I just watched that Angry Joe video and it has been a long time since I have seen someone be so bad at video games.

Yea agreed. It made me freeze up to see how bad he is when in his videos he talks about how he likes to play strategically. He went lone wolf so many times and start shooting enemies without alerting anyone else. He's the type I would not want to play with in a group.

Communication might be difficult considering the event he was at, I was deconstructing his movement and positioning and it was terrible. He was always putting himself in the worst possible positions.

I enjoyed how he had to ask how to mod weapons what with a huge "X TO MOD" on the screen and then managed to put the grip on only to take it off again and not having it equipped at all.

He also sounded like he was either drunk or extremely tired which didn't make it better to listen to XD

How this guy is popular is beyond me.

Everyone needs to try out the dead zone when the beta hits. I didn't think I would like it but damn it was fun.

Yeah every game is like that now, you're either an errand boy or a clearer or rooms.

I forgot about that, best part of the video.

Like,I will never understand how people who literally earn their living by playing video games can have less "video game instinct" than me.

Like,I look at a third person shooter like Division and I just KNOW how it plays.
I have played so many games, this shit is all the same in the end and the controls are 95% the same every time. But I have a job that has nothing to do with games that steals all my time away from them and then people like him get paid to play them but know less about them than me.

HOW?

So do we know the extent of the map or are we still making guesses?

The Division seems cool, but I can already see what's coming. It's that game most folks here are hyped on, reviews will be decent, but then a week later there will be a dozen threads calling the game shit for downgrading & lack of content.

From what I see I suggest everyone put their expectations in check so that they just enjoy the game for what it will ultimately be: A somewhat watered down Destiny.

I think that's why you've seen them try to pivot so hard to the "It's an RPG!" messaging in the last few months, in order to try and get ahead of the not-enough-content complaints that have been so incredibly popular with the hardcore this gen.

Incredibly unlikely they'll be able to get close to the amount of content in games like Witcher 3 or Fallout 4 (Very mature engines and tools chains on their 3rd+ sequel) or even Destiny TTK (counting Destiny 1 content).

When people burn through the content in two weeks the threads will start, and unlike Destiny, it doesn't look like (based on lots of time in the alpha) that the Division is going to have incredibly polished controls, gameplay, and "shooting feedback loop" (aka the oft-referred-to "it feels great to shoot people's head off in Destiny" comment) to fall back on to retain players.

Because taking clips and clips of bullets as the player of the game in every game is realistic. As well as taking a health pack and being revived after being shot 35 times. ITS A GAME.

It's about the journey, not the destination.

Unfortunately the journey has some bumps from what I've seen.
The initial PvP battle here looks like a mess. Although that janky sliding is kind of on point when it's on snow.
There's no feedback aside from numbers popping up, which is the only way you can tell you're hitting something. And people don't seem to notice that they're getting hit. Thought the gun sounded like it's firing pellets, but that's probably just because the audio's bugging out. Hopefully the herkyjerky will also be fixed.

This encounter looks like vapid rubbish because the AI for grunts is total dumbo. Clump together and waddle around in the open like assholes. Spongeyness or more of them, doesn't make battles with this AI more interesting or exciting, just more drawn out. Also here's this idiot.
It looks like purple+ AI is capable of exhibiting smarter behavior.

People keep saying "It's an RPG with loot n stuff", which to me seems to mean that you grind these mediocre battles to get weapons with higher numbers so you can kill this dumb sponge AI faster. I just can't see how there's a gain here. What do I actually get out of spending my time on this? And if you have a better time after having played for XX hours, is the point of things being initial garbage to make that feel like more of an accomplishment? Or why can't things be good from the start? Maybe if you play with people you know, that will elevate the experience, but then isn't this the case with every game ever?

Anyway, those are some of the thoughts I had, and so I'm having doubts whether this game is for me. Probably not. I don't get MMORPG's.

HOW?

Limited cognitive abilities?

Alright thanks. Kinda disappointing to see the size but hopefully indoor areas alleviate that. They will need to have a fast pace content release schedule or I don't think people will stick around

You seem to forget how big the buildings and the streets are in this.
And there is tons of vertical space as well as the indoor areas.

The game definitely has the same (if not easily more) real estate than, say, Destiny.

I wish Ubi would switch up their type fonts/HUD. I'm sure they aren't exactly the same as their other games, but they look close enough to give the game a been there done that feel that makes it look bland. At least to me, not sure about others.

I live in NYC - in the map area - that's a pretty sizable swath of Manhattan - for walking at least. Especially considering all of the cross streets in the area.

Considering the level of detail I've seen, it seems good.

So does this game for sure scale the difficulty and experience to how many people are playing it?

In other words, if I play 2 player co op with my wife will be at a severe disadvantage to a 4 player team?

The teams are 3 player max.

And it does scale, you will be fine.

I think ill be fine with the map size. I just hope ToD and weather transitions are awesome. I just wish rain was one of the weather sets.

Everything else seems awesome though. Not too worried about bullet sponges as long as the scaling is good.
