The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Thanks to everyone dropping links to videos here, especially to ViciousDS for that high quality monster; it's great to be seeing large chunks of unedited footage.

Based on this footage, I'm modifying my official stance from "reserved, but hopeful" to "cautiously optimistic". I feel like if this game manages to cash even 75% of the checks it's written, it'll be WELL worth the $38 ($60 - $12 BB GCU discount - $10 RZ certificate for preordering) and couple hundred hours I'll end up spending on it.

I really don't care that the alpha footage we're seeing on the weakest platform isn't on par with the 2013 E3 gameplay demo. I am hopeful that the PC version will deliver the vast majority of that target, but expect the PS4 version (where I'll spend most of my time) to land somewhere in between what we've seen in the alpha and the target, and will be happy with that.

At the very least, it should be an excellent way to while away the months until the next major Destiny content drop, and serve as something else for my fireteam to do when we're feeling a bit burned out.

Hell, I may even double dip and grab it on PC after the price "Ubisofts" a month or so after release to play with friends I usually play BF with and to mess around with the PC eye candy.

To that end, has there been any OFFICIAL word about if characters are accessible between platforms? I know it's unlikely, especially between Xbone and anything else, but being able to play the same character on PS4 and PC would not only be a huge boon to me, personally, but would certainly encourage significant double-dipping.

Surely it wouldn't try pulling a Destiny and locking on disc content away? The backlash would be real.

Destiny didn't have locked away finished content, it had unfinished content that didn't get used, because it rather didn't fit with the new story or was empty and would be pointless.

No point having a bigger map with nothing in it.

Then don't fucking show them at E3 and tell us to preorder now!
Or if you have done that, then fucking tell us as soon as you realize Brooklyn won't be in the final game, and tell us why. Not sit quietly on that information like an asshole until release day.
Massive have lost a lot of respect from me for this, showing all these cool areas that aren't even in the game.
"Oh look, look at all this cool shit, you see this, we call this game The Division, pre-order now!"
*gets the game, finds out what they showed wasn't even included.

Gifs dont prove much when it comes to "downgrades".
Also people seem to forget 99.9999% of the footage is from a console, and the least powerful at that. Im not sure what you expect.

Lets see how it looks on a high spec PC and then we'll talk "downgrade".
Lol well at least you're on PC so you can set the animation to high for maximum animations hell yeah!

This is why any sane person will tell you not to preorder, and wait on any purchase until the game's out and you can see some impressions.

Demo is not the same as final product. What a twist. I think it is great that Ubi sets the bar high with demos even though it is damn near impossible to make it happen. At the end of the day it's about if the game is fun or not.

Setting the bar high then not delivering on it is not something I would call great.

It honestly doesn't bother me that much. It's graphics, I can live with a bit of a downgrade from the target footage that was shown years ago. All I want is the game to be fun.

I don't know why this isn't just a general rule people go by.
Because the majority of the people will still pre-order and the pre-order can be reversed for free? Which then leads to people going back to pre-ordering stuff.

I don't really understand that statement.

People can choose whether or not to buy something without having played it. That's their choice, 100% of the time. If you choose to do so, you give up at least part of your right to be disappointed.

I'm saying people pre-order because there's no opportunity cost, they can cancel at the last minute. Worst case scenario is launch day review embargo, but the market is competitive so we have free shipping on returns and what not.

If you preorder on PSN or Xbox marketplace, you can't cancel.

You can on Xbox everywhere and PSN in Europe. And that's only 20% of the people so for the majority, there's still no opportunity cost.

Not to mention that pre-ordering is pretty much a must if you want to save while still getting the game day one nowadays with E3 pre-orders where you get 30% off.

Then I'm confused about why you're angry. Why does it matter that they want you to preorder if you know you can just get out of it with little to no hassle?

Because they show you Brooklyn or whatever and they say this is our game, whatever shown, The Division. Once they showed actual gameplay and they regarded it as a game, then it's no longer concept. And I don't remember seeing "This is only a concept" when they showed all that gameplay in Brooklyn.
How would you like if a movie's trailer was full of good scenes that were cut out from the actual movie?
And like I said before, I am not saying it was some diabolical carving designed to sell you on the season pass. I'm saying don't advertise things that aren't part of the game, and then say the game comprises of those features.

I love how some are still saying that it's just "yt compression" etc. Yes, there is compression all over the videos, but that doesn't justify the complete lack of world detail that was there in the reveal demo.

Just look at this:

Compared to this:

Now, I'm only comparing the games graphics to the reveal demo, I don't know how it plays or if it's any good until I try it, so don't take this post as a "he thinks it's shit because they downgraded the graphics" post. It's not.

Mein Gott!
What happened!?!?

I was seriously expecting a more slow paced and tactical shooter and not this generic cookie cutter cover shooter.

People need to keep their expectations with this game in check. It's a lot like what happened with Destiny.

It's a fun game with measured expecations.

As long as you have friends to play with

That happens!!! All the time!

And I don't really care, because I end up judging the movie I paid to see.

Is it possible to try out multiple platforms for the Beta? I want to try both PS4 and PC to see which one I should go with for release.

I'm in the waiting list for the PS4 beta, but I have a guaranteed spot in the PC beta via Humble Bundle.

It'd be nice if I got a free PS4 spot because I'm in the PC beta for sure...but I doubt they will.

None of the areas we saw in 2013 are in the game......damn

this blows my mind though.....We are nearly a whole games map away from even reaching brooklyn. All that original area we saw will be DLC or an expanion.....look how much is not going to be included.

Closer look at the 'E3 map'. Interestingly, that map has 3 dark zones as well. Looks like it also is not completely zoomed out either, so it is larger than what you see here.

Was this map shown separately from gameplay or did a character zoom into the map from a menu?

If it is the latter then it might be realistic to say that we can expect content update either free or DLC to update the world and this is the only way that The Division will survive the sale ben in 2 months.

If it is the former then it might just be promotional advertising showing what may be possible for the game.

meaning you'll be highlighted in the map "Kill this Rogue player" otherwise other non-party players are not shown on map so you can be a little stealthy.

Oh right. Kind of sucks that treachery will be exposed in this way but I guess they want to discourage it a little.

It was shown at the conclusion of the initial reveal video at E3, so there was no menu navigating at all, the gameplay just morphed into the map screen and slowly zoomed out. I'm guessing it was a seperate thing just created for demo purposes

You've bungled this pretty good.

Paying for that bundle when you can get the milk for free from Amazon.
Waiting in a line when you can get the milk for free from Amazon.

Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach tainted to fish and he will fall off the boat ;)

heh, the bundle was cheap and there were a bunch of games I wanted from it anyway. Win win

It's from the reveal trailer, here it is in context:

ignore the last second though.

So, if I wanted to get a guaranteed beta key could I just pre-order the game long enough to get the code and cancel right after?
