The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Me too but it begs the question about whether it would trivialize some of the RPG mechanics like enemy health if we take enemies down that easily, or if they should worth way less than normal kills. If it were up to me it'd be an unlockable from the Base of Operations but I can see why they removed that.

or you can only shiv kill when the health bar is at a certain percentage

I mean a way around it is make it insta kills for low levels. For higher levels, maybe it's a shiv and then you kick the dude away and everything gets loud. The shiv takes a significant chunk off, tho. I'd just appreciate that variety. Especially making solo s little more entertaining for me.

Well its probably close to the finished product but limited at what seems to be level 20

We can get to level 20 in beta?

Wow that's really generous of them. Destiny beta let you get to ... level 8? Max was 30, then light on top of that? Crazy.

This beta is going to be a LOT bigger slice than I thought.

Hard to compare level caps among different games. The number is at standardized in anyway.

Someone with early access to next week’s The Division beta has revealed how many gigabytes you’ll be downloading.

The Division is due for a beta next week on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The PC version goes live January 29, and according to to someone with early access to the client, the download is over 26GB.

Reddit user legate213 posted a screenshot of the UPlay download, which you can see below.

Dat NDA breach

I feel the only thing that can ruin this games initial launch is if the beta is bad. I'm glad to hear the alpha ran smooth, but now it'll be on all platforms and with a shit ton of people on each going in all at once, and more on the weekend.

Has this developer of Ubi made a AAA game before ? If not, and they pull it off, then hats off to them.

They used to be one of the best out there imo, Ubi Montreal anyway. I feel like this game definitely had their A team on it. It looks great even downgraded and still impresses me where as R6 didnt.

I wouldn't expect that the Beta is capped as high as 20 and I wouldn't expect to see access to the whole map either.

The video we're seeing from Press and Youtubers isn't from the Beta, it's from a Press Event where the Devs were able to direct the Press to specific encounters and corral exploration for the sake of time.

Now they could have all that in the Beta.. but it would be better to expect the cap to be lower and map access smaller than what the press had.

This is what I was thinking.

I thought the beta would let us get to probably level 10-15 if the max is 30. Probably a small slice of the SP content, a big boss quest within that, and the darkness zone.

That's enough to get everyone into it and experience the core. If it goes beyond that I'll be quite pleased.

The only reason to play this game is loot. Like Destiny. Like Diablo III after they fixed it. That would fall apart if you added in trading...

Totally get that and after playing destiny EXTENSIVELY, I see why they took it out after having it promised.

And I hate the reasoning, personally.

Maybe it's because RNG in destiny is such ass that doing end game loot repeatedly in the hopes of obtaining a piece of gear tends to annoy me. It became a force of habit to run nightfall, daily, raid, etc. Etc. When there were times when having a dedicated trading system would have made me hate the RNG gods a little less. Destiny left a bad taste in my mouth and I kept playing it well until November of 2015. I don't want Division to end up like that, not just with the trading system because that's just me being curious. But content and the like.

I'm still interested in the game but I'm hoping the beta can reignite the flame I had from 2013 and 2014.

These are both really neat ideas.

Well following Diablo as an example you can trade as long as you've been in the group when the item drop with a timer of 12* hours

*Insert X hour(s)

I wonder when the client download will go live, considering PSN's average download speed and all...

~48 hours in advance i assume.

26GB. Not bad at all. Really Really hope that the PC version still has Global Illumination in tact.

It is the one major thing that seems to have been downgraded (Read stripped entirely) from the console versions.

If Global Illumination is still in, the game will still look like the reveal trailer on PC. Or at least so close, it won't be a discussion.

Yeah, there's a beta test on PC tomorrow, so expect some leaked images and info on the PC version.

We can get to level 20 in beta?

I wouldn't bet on it. The folks at the press event got boosted up to level 20 so they could show off some higher-level gameplay with more skills unlocked, but I'll be very surprised if the beta lets you level that far.

I doubt the beta will have much more than the alpha did. Maybe they'll unlock proper character creation and have the starting experience in this time.

Tomorrow?

I was under the impression the PC version the press played under embargo until 1/22/16, and the beta for PC started the same day as the PS4 beta, on 1/29/16.

Is there a closed PC beta test happening tomorrow? If so, I really hope we see a leaked shot or two. My fingers are crossed the final code of the PC version retains the GI and it is simply "off" in console versions.

The alternative being they stripped it completely from the game/engine. Which I hope they did not, because it was the games most promising feature, and the reason for much of the downgrade talk.

destiny cap was level 20 and you could play roughly 20% of the story basically because of how insanely short the game was. Then you ran strikes hours, upon hours hoping for RNG to grace its presence. Which then people found the loot cave and that was the main thing for weeks.

Level doesn't mean anything without context. You could get to level 8 in the alpha.....but there was not much outside of dark zone and 1 story mission.....and wandering around of course.

I wonder what the in-game reward will be for playing the Beta (if there is one)

For Siege it was a weapon skin and The Crew it was some decals or something so it would probably be a piece of gear or weapon skin

I'm not sure how I feel about the dark zone in this game. I don't like the possibility of losing my loot and who knows how many hours it took to attain it. But the idea of the zone sounds cool I'll give it that.

Agreed. But as of now, I will say it does feel like the endgame content will all be funneled to the dark zone area (PvP) as that's where ultimately the toughest AI will be along with the degree of difficulty of human interaction.

There is a max carry limit of 6 (might change) while in the Dark Zone before you need to extract. A player should not be spending hours inside the DZ running around with a bunch of good stuff without extracting a few times.

The only loot you drop is stuff you just picked up while in The Dark Zone.

The way it works is.. anything you pick up in The Dark Zone is contaminated by the biological agent in the story. Before you can equip it, you need to extract from the zone so it can be cleaned before you can use it. It's after picking it up and before you extract from the zone that it can be dropped if you're killed. If you successfully extract, any weapon, gear, or item that you brought out of The Dark Zone with you is cleaned, can be equipped, and will no longer drop from you if you get killed.

Goodness I hope this game is good, but everything I have seen so far tells me it won't be to my liking.
Hopefully the beta will be a good indicator.

Yeah, this is how Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning handled the stealth backstab for example. Would've loved a stealth option but ah well.

I played the crap out of the Alpha. The atmosphere alone sold me. One thing that I'm surprised they aren't showing in the previews are the "echos" you find throughout the city, some even being part of side missions. I really dug them, gives the player some story of what happen when everything went to shit with the infection in the city. They also have some loot reward tied to solving them.

Love that alpha mission where you needed to investigate several echo's to find someone.

You both misunderstood my point
I said I wouldn't put what they are doing in Siege as sweet considering it's only 1 map per quarter for one year. Because you can bet that it would have been a lot more if they were charging for it.

I don't know man, those maps in Siege are pretty different compared to other games maps what with the destruction changing them up completely.
One map in Siege can play like multiple maps in a different shooter.

I can see it taking a really long time to make and released a balanced map in Siege.

I think without the ability to communicate with other people via mic, its going to be difficult to determine how things turn out. I saw on that jackfrag 50m video he sometimes shot other group members who were trying to help because they would run in front of him, so his group automatically became "rogue". You cant tell them at that point: "Hey sorry you were walking in front of me."

Dark zone needs a way of communication that isnt dancing avatars.

But there is directional voip?

Btw for people holding on to their alpha client. From Ubi forum.

"Ye, you will get access to the beta however you will need to redownload the client, it will not update from the alpha client."

Searched for it.
Recap from the livestream.

"Proximity chat:
IS IN!! PC and PS4 in Beta - working on XBox now.

"Proximity VOIP - again confirmed as good to go on PC and PS4 IN BETA (working on XBox version NOT in Beta though, but will be in full game)"

Honestly even though this is good if it didn't have this feature, it would've been a black eye to not have in the game with how open the game play is in the Dark Zone.

Downfall? Do you know their content release schedule? Have you seen Destiny? Have you seen Diablo?

It's a RPG looter shooter.
Drip feeding content is the best way to prolong its lifespan.
It's not lost, it's coming.

It's Destiny threads all over again, and it's not even out.
Every time I start thinking maybe I'll just buy this and not worry about or hassle with the decision... post like this bring me back to earth. Like jumping bare bottomed into freezing water. "wtf was i thinking"
