This is my thinking as well, even though I despise the DZ.
I hope there are other ways to get good gear outside of the DZ.

They've already stated that PVE will also house BiS gear, not just DZ.

What does open beta mean?
In most mmo, open beta means the pre-launch phase, and our progress will be carried over to full version. What'll happen in obt to full version of the Division?

Open Beta just means it's a beta that is open to everyone. The other shit you're talking about is just what many games have made them into (free demo/advertising right before launch). I would bet it'll have the same content as this closed beta/alpha did again, but with some bug fixes, probably some anti-cheat detection server side.
Open beta means it's open to all players that's it. Very often open beta gets reset so I'm not sure what you're on about.
It's on for another 11 hours or so

I really love the game but I might skip the open Beta. I don't want to burn myself out on the starting area, especially regrinding to get my gear back

Again I can't say enough good things about this Beta and this game! I am so ready! Upgraded my copy to gold today.
For the last day me and my 3 buddies all started female agents and did everything again. 4 bad ass woman running around the dark zone. It's cool that appearance items are account wide.

Right, I understand where it started, but even after that "leak" the idea of an open beta was consistently shot down by multiple Massive employees. Many times.

I wish a mod could set up some sort of automatic find/replace script to fix it.
I guess people would have to create a new thread for discussing the lack of makeup options.
In other news, my wife accused me of trying to set up a character that looked like me (actually I'd just hit randomise once and gone with it).
I wouldn't have minded the accusation except that I'm playing a female avatar...

The bold isn't true and really hasn't been true in a long time. Beta progress very rarely carries over. When MMO's of any kind want to do something like that.. the tend to go with a Headstart for people who pre-ordered or Pre-Purchased/Funded the game.

Now that I think about it I did put almost 24 hours into the beta. That's longer than a ton of AAA games.

Was it Just Cause 2 that had a demo so big people didn't even buy the game when the demo was just enough. Or was the demo hacked or something so it didn't have a timelimit.

I personally don't need an open beta if it's as barebones as this (felt more like a demo).
It's a fun pick up game, although for this beta I must have put in about 3hours before getting bored. Hoping the final game is full with interesting content. Not sure I'll get it on launch.

The Just Cause 2 demo had the desert area of the map, it was impossible to go out of bounds because textures simply weren't included for anything outside of the demo area. Well, you could go out of bounds, technically, but it didn't do anything.
It also had a time limit, but it was [relatively] easy to circumvent, even on console. I played that fucking demo at least 30 hours. In fact, I played it so much I was kinda "over" de the game when the full version released.
..which is why I only put in like 12 hours into The Division beta, I don't want to burn myself out on the game.
No,In most MMOs what you describe is called a "headstart" not an Open Beta.

A few friends who I played a lot of GTA with were very excited for it but I simply wasn't sure I would enjoy the game so I pre-ordered to get a beta code. After a few trials and tribulations to actually get hold of that beta code I managed to spend a couple of hours playing Sunday and Monday evening and enjoyed it enough to keep my pre-order for now.
The PvE stuff in the beta is pretty simple but assuming it ratchets up in complexity and difficulty in the main game I think it might be fun. The PvP dark zone seems like it also holds some promise depending on how weapon balance plays out and what kind of community meta becomes established. Broadly though I think it has legs.
My main complaint is largely about a single tweak to the gun-play which is fundamentally solid with a decent amount of variation in the way guns feel and play. Just an option to turn off or at least lessen the horrific auto aim that at times actively drags your reticle around the screen would be a Massive improvement.
I also had a few issues with the the "hold square" prompts which seem a little picky about the length of the button press and your position in the world when you are holding down the required button.
I like the environment but I wonder if it will end up feeling a little samey after a while? It's also the kind of environment that make me look forward to the next (maybe even next after that) generation of open worlds as it has so many objects in it which can't currently be interacted with but really would be good to be able to use in a game like this. Not being able to move dumpsters or other environmental objects to create your own ambush or choke points. Not being able to hide under cars, in buses or amongst the huge piles of trash in some areas.
I guess it's a symptom of environments starting to look more and more real and having more and more stuff in them without having much actual substance to back-up that realistic look and feel.
Last but not least, when I shoot out a light, can it bloody well stay out please, at least for a minute or two? Shooting a bulb and having it flicker back into life immediately is jarring. Oh and whilst I'm doing picky, why does the top half of a mannequin fall apart but the legs remain indestructible?
Anyway, all in all, pretty solid stuff. I hope the full game turns out to be good.

Gutted that it's over, March seems so far away now
The PvEvP zone has surprised me, expected it to be awful and just getting gunned down by teams of rogues constantly making solo dark zone a chore but in my case at least it hasn't been like that at all. So good
