The Division Open Beta Thread: Is it out yet?

Probably, but the dude answering the questions should have recognized that he didn't answer a damn thing and took it upon himself to seek out better questions. This just comes off as lazy or at worst a tight lipped approach to ensure they don't lose preorders.
IGN controls what questions are shown to Massive in the first place

Smh at that "AMA".

Practically everything was known and this doesn't sound good at all:

There doesn't seem to be anything else besides what is already known.

Yeah, that and it sounds like there really isnt much more to the Dark Zone than what we saw in beta. All around pretty disappointing stuff since they kept hinting at there being more. I'm glad I didnt jump on the gold version, I'll settle on a $30 nvidia code.

Do we? The game director just said there were points of interest like in the Beta. He didn't feel the need to elaborate.

Yeah I just saw.
Maybe the "missions in the dark zone" from a while back is just something like "enter the dark zone" as a breadcrump.

Hmm, ah well *shrug*

Why does everyone want this Gold Edition? Because they haven't released info on a stand-alone season pass yet? Or because of the outfit that is no-longer exclusive? I'm confused. Cant you just save money by picking up the pre-order now at Amazon's 20% off and then the season pass when that's released?

He could take 5 minutes and scroll through the comments page for more questions. Especially if it prevented something as stupid as answering the same question twice. He could also elaborate on what he did answer. He was incredibly tight lipped. He couldn't even elaborate on what was changed from Beta. He just said they made changes to the Dark Zone. Wow, really?

Massive didn't look through the questions
IGN looked through the questions and cherry-picked what THEY wanted.

I got Gold for price of Standard from GamesPlanet, why not to jump on it?

Info about standalone season pass availability has been out there since they announced contents of it.

I got the gold edition for the same price as the standard version.
was a neat all in one package for me so it wasn't really much decision making.

Oh im not judging i just didn't know... i was curious.

I'm referring to release. AFAIK you still can't pre-order the season pass, correct?

Is it just me or does it seem like almost everyone who is buying the game is getting the Gold edition and not just the regular $60 dollar version?

I didn't think you were judging, its cool. You can pre-order season pass no, it comes available as standalone on 8th.

“But for me, the Dark Zone is the jewel in our game, this is almost a social experiment. We’re definitely going to keep supporting it with events and special, very precise calendar moments and things like that. It’s going to be part of a continued push, post-launch.” -Julian Gerighty, associate creative director on The Division

I never buy season passes but did on this one for the $15 back on PSN deal. I figure even if the end game is no good I'll still do the new missions, etc. Hop back and forth between Destiny.

Probably going to be a bumpy ride while they figure out what people like/dislike about the end game Dark Zone.

You do know they have a PR person who tells them exactly what they can/can't say, right? This is never "off the cuff" or spontaneous.

Lmao we are back to "concern" posts and "my end game!" crap. Gaf is gonna gaf.

Yeah, it's nuts that people want to know more about a product before buying it. How silly of us.

Of course. They've had a week to put this together, though. This just sets a bad precedent for how Massive is going to communicate with the community.

How does that not sound good at all?

I'm making a bunch of assumptions here and hopefully I'm out to lunch (still very excited for the game)... but I think I understand where the worry is coming from.

They stated BiS gear can be obtained through the DZ and through the PvE experiences. If the endgame PvE is as shallow as 'repeat the last mission on hard+', it will either be fairly trivial to find endgame DZ drops or pointless since you can just go repeat one mission over and over again.

If the PvE experience does in fact cap off at 'beat the last mission on hard+', you're going to get a TON of people (most people?) just grinding that over and over again to get BiS, then running off to the DZ to PvP. At this point in the DZ, the whole mechanic of finding loot, extracting etc. becomes moot.

If you had any sort of success in the beta, you probably hit the point where the loot was irrelevant. If you had a halfway competent team, in a few hours you geared up to the point DZ credits were useless as well. imo the DZ loses a hell of a lot of its appeal at that point

Maybe they meant BiS can be obtained through PvP or crafting (not as drops in PvE) but I'm not sure that would change much either (grind PvE to collect mats... repeat).

tldr; I fear that at some point the concession was made that they can't gate BiS gear in the DZ and due to the strongest DZ mechanics being tied to loot, DZ longevity is going to be directly tied to the PvE endgame which, so far, appears to be very shallow.

I imagine the events mentioned there are more like Iron Banner in Destiny. People were hoping for random missions, public quests, ect in the darkzone so that its a little less aimless.

We have no idea how they will be like so I'm not going to presume for my sanity. :)

I'm not all that familiar with the game but doesn't Destiny actually have a dedicated PvP mode though? So you can take that gear and go fight a team of people with said gear?

It does indeed.
There were many issues with balancing, but PvP was generally a good time. The odd structure of Destiny made it something of a side-show though.

(Not sure if that's changed as I haven't played it in over a year.)

Destiny Day One XD

I sure remember the first two days of Destiny playing like 15+ hours with my friend.
Can't wait to have my weekend off after the release day of Division and play all day.

Don't buy it then? We already played two betas, I think at this point everyone has a good idea what to expect from the game.

Season passes have no guarantee that they'll be released retail or physical. The 20% off doesn't apply to digital games or passes, iirc. Therefore a physical copy of the Gold edition with the discount is a better deal.

For the most part I enjoyed the game in Beta. I don't want to just cancel my preorder and move on. I'm excited about the game, I wouldn't be here if I wasn't. I'm just voicing my frustration that Massive did nothing to alleviate any fears or concerns when given the opportunity.

I already bought the digital preorder on PSN so I'm locked in, but this AMA is basically telling me that the full game = beta but with bigger numbers. Especially the DZ.

And I enjoyed the beta, but this is seriously disappointing.

I went with PS4 gold edition, even though my PC would be better graphically, I can't stand cheating BS with every PC game lately, at least everyone is on an even field and my friends did the same.

Well, I don't mean it'll be exactly like Iron Banner from a gameplay perspective, I mean in terms of it being a temporary calendar thing, which is exactly what they seem to be saying there.

The new Trials of Osiris mode is for real. 3v3 with only revives, no respawn. First to five wins (eliminating the other team entirely) wins the match. Basically a tournament where you are eliminated after three match losses. Try and get 8 match wins for the top gear and 9 in a row for elite gear. They match you based on number of wins so if you have 8 match wins you are likely to face another 8 win team. To sweaty for me.

It's actually really cool and a good way to get end game gear. I suck at it, but oh well. Iron Banner has end game gear drops too so there's that. If anything after the House of Wolves expansion was so lackluster the bulk of Destiny was PvP focused for a while.

They also just did Crimson Days where it was 2v2 and if your teammate got died you got stronger. So they throw some new modes in there now and then. I expect this is really what Division events will be, few day long events to do stuff for gear. I don't think they'll have missions in the Dark Zone but I do think they'll increase the AI encounter rate.

Probably because those fears and concerns are just complete bullshit.

Waaahhhhmbulance, they aren't including 300 hours of content, a full end game that will last 9 months, and free DLC.

I forgot I had the gold edition reserved on Amazon and now I'm trying to determine if I keep it or drop the reserve. Where's a good place for me to catchup on this games content/info so i can make a choice?

Really? I played maybe 40 hours of closed Alpha/Beta and open Betas and it was a very, very small portion of what we should expect from the game. It only answered questions regarding basic gameplay and some character progression etc.

We know very little when it comes to end-game and DZ gameplay (besides what we experienced). Nothing about events, raids, PvP (other than what we saw). Yes we have an idea of what we can expect but it's not a good idea.

Vivendi and IGN is working together on this AMA to kill Division hype so Ubi stocks drop and Vivendi can pick them up for their hostile takeover.

Right. Keep that mentality when buying games like this. I'm sure you'll never get burned.

If you are like me and you have played 20+ hours of the closed/open beta (I ended up at 21 for closed and 12 for open) then I am pretty sure you will get your money's worth out of the Division.

Playing something for 30 hours is NOT bad value.
