The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

they need to show GAMES

See, I think they have the games right now, and I think they have future games in the pipe that we already know about and even more games that we know are in development - GOWIII, Twisted Metal, what ever the hell Team Ico is working.

Surprise game announcements are always a good thing and I hope there are at lease a few, but overall out of the big three, Sony is doing ok with their upcoming titles.

They need to elaborate on past announcements.

It needs to be like last year, but upped a notch. I don't care if the games release 3 years from now.

Nah. They need to put firm dates on the stuff we've already seen, and then blow our minds with stuff weren't expecting.

I'd be really happy to see a sizzle reel of every game coming in the next 6-10 months with a release date at the bottom. Starting with Home.

I don't think MS is throwing more money around on X360 at all. They never did. They are just putting money in different baskets. MS more towards third parties that they publish (Gears, NG2 and such), Sony more towards internal teams. I also very much doubt FFXIII going multi was influenced by any kind of MS moneyhat. Why should they have to pay for something that by all logic should exist in the first place. Sony would be the one who would have to moneyhat to prevent something like that from happening.

Not sure. I think some agreements concerning royalties at the very least are to be considered.

I'm not getting my hopes up for megatonz. Chances are, Sony will just highlight all the games coming out for the rest of the year. We may get some new Home, firmware or PSstore info/announcements.

Sony makes a couple announcement of 3rd party being part of the sony family. Level 5 would be a start. oh and some other 3rd party i don't care for.

and is anyone going to the King Taco E3 meet that Jeff from ps.blog talked about? I wanna predict what's going down there :lol

who cares about HOME.. give me RPGs!!

Unfortunately that's one thing that their internal development team don't have right now. I wish they'd pay external 3rd party to develop RPGs like Mistwalker. That's one thing that I feel Sony haven't done wisely. Instead of going to well-known game creator (Tecmo, Tri-ace) to develop new IP, they go to a company like Ninja Theory.

All this psychological jargon is getting annoying. I like how certain people which we hardly see in Sony threads are in here all of a sudden saying Sony sucks. And all this viral crap happening now trying to kick dirt on Sony when they are getting this 1 game also. Make no mistake it was a loss but to not have the game altogether would've been much worse. And to those that think the system isn't worth owning anymore, you forget all the great games still coming out? Or maybe we should talk about the Wii and Xbox like this. Whether you're doing it for game or just to be annoying, it needs to stop. Sony has got a great future ahead. Let's just remind ourselves of that when the NPD's hit how "bad" Sony are.

You're being a little bit unfair. Every publisher has hits and misses.

They also contract Quantic Dream, Insomniac, Level5, NCSoft.. Heck, perhaps their most interesting looking title is coming from a bit of a gamble, in Media Molecule.

I admit that. The thing about Heavenly Sword though, it's the type of IP that Sony already owns (hack/slash like God of War) and already do a good job of. So I didn't see the reason why they need another one. Anyway, I don't want to dredge things. I just wish Sony would pay a well-known Japanese developer to develop JRPG IP for them. I just tend to like their design style a bit more that's all.

Despite the ho-hum reviews, HS wasn't bad, and it didn't sell bad. I don't know why people keep ragging on this game.

Sony needs to establish that the removal of Kutaragi and Harrison was actually to improve the company. Say what you will, but KK and PH could at least make you believe it was a god-in-a-box with their fanciful talk. After all, they were the familiar faces from the years of prosperity.

Hirai and Stringer are another kettle of fish. Hirai's been a public face for the company for a while, but he wasn't looked as the captain of the shit, that was KK. Phil could be relied on to push for creative/interesting titles from SCE and third parties.

But what have we gotten since then? A crippled 40GB SKU? A moderate price drop to "still expensive" status? An assload of titles with TBA release dates? Phil championed stuff like Heavenly Sword and Motorstorm, and at least those made it out within like a year. Everything else has just seen delay after delay after delay.

I'm not mad at Square, they made the smart financial move. How many people questioned the viability of FF13 on such a small userbase? I mean, the PS3 is selling horribly in the one territory FF13 needs it to do its best, JP. SCEJ doesn't even know how to promote their machine, why should Square take that chance? I bet they'd much rather have built it for the Wii from the start, b/c it's not like porting to the 360 is gonna ensure them any great success either. The whole situation is tits-up, and I can't blame any dev for being skeptical of the PS3 at this point.

What Sony HAS TO SHOW, are viable product for this Fall. Show stuff coming this year, but don't plaster LBP all over the front of it. We've been inundated with that game at every turn for a year now. It better be good. It better be the next-big thing. Because the rest looks like sequels to me. And what else is there really for this year? R2....what else? WKS is supposed to be Japan, and I'm assuming that's early next year, not this calendar year.

Where's the fucking music store, Sony? No wait, Howard? Isn't Howard Stringer from Sony Music. WTF, man? iTunes, Napter,... fucking bittorrent hacks are finding easier ways to list the Sony music catalog online than SCE is.

Where's the movie store? Who cares if you need a Netflix account for it to work, MS has beat them to a video store...twice. It's not anger, it's just disappointment. A media conglomerate can't get its various parts to work in sync. And they make the perfect delivery vehicles too, with cell phones, tvs and video games. They had the delivery system and the content and they do nothing.

I love my PS3, and hope someday it remembers its PS1/PS2 heritage and starts the flood of DOMINATE games. But for now, I'm a bit sad to see that the cracks in the foundation are only worsening. FF13 isn't any less interesting now that it's multiplat, but it now makes it abundantly clear that the PS3's viability is in question. PEACE.

sony is really quite stupid for doing this in home when they don't let everyone in

it's like building an amusement park where you only allow customers in who wear orange shirts on tuesdays

They've dropped the ball, and pissed millions away by not having all of this in place already. It's just sad because they have the most content and you would think it would be common sense since the market is so huge for it right now.

The movies, music and PSX /PS2 games is baffling to me.

Anything can be turned into exclusive if a company wants to cough up the dough. See Tri-Ace. This is why it frustrates me that Sony won't do this for JRPGs but will do it for Haze of all things.

well, they are paying level 5 to make White Knight Chronicles we just have seen anything from it since last TGS.

If there was a time to show it, it would be now.

a strong showing of WKC, with a firm release window (slideshow from a few weeks ago point to showtime by march) will do wonders i think.

sony should try its hardest to make level 5 its mistwalker since SE seems to be going rouge.

They should go ahead and tie up a Dark Cloud 3 and revive true fantasy online
