The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

I would not get your hopes up about the Sony conference.

We will get more powerpoints, CG trailers, A KZ2 trailer, more powerpoints, new controller and a closing powerpoint.

:(

I am so upset at Sony right now.

Uh, Squeenix didn't say that FFXIII Versus was "exclusive to PS3", they just said they weren't in a position to think about bringing it to the 360. And that's true because from what we know the Versus team is super-thin and it's not being actively worked on by a large production team now.

Expect Squee to follow the cash. No more exclusives save moneyhats.

yes, they did.
"We won't change policy," said Hashimoto. "Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still a PlayStation 3 exclusive."

Anything can be turned into exclusive if a company wants to cough up the dough. See Tri-Ace. This is why it frustrates me that Sony won't do this for JRPGs but will do it for Haze of all things.

But they haven't done anything for Haze or Unreal Tournament3 or games like that.
Those games just happened to be on PS3 before development on other platforms started so they catched the ball advertising they were coming first on PS3.
It's just that Sony isn't willing to get involved in money hatting contests to get third party exclusives and they prefer to build their own franchises which are by default exclusive.
I don't think that this is bad a strategy. on the contrary is the one which makes most sense in the current market situation but it should be more balanced. I can understand thet they don't want to waste money in trying to keep exclusive minor franchises but FFXIII is not a game you don't want to pay if necessary to keep the exclusive although I doubt they haven't tried and we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. Maybe interviews with Sony executives after the conference will shed light on the situation because of course every journalist will ask them how they could lose FF before everythinelse :lol

they alaso said this about FFXIII...........so yeah ITZ ALL ABOUT TEH MONEHZ!.

Me personally don;'t care because shit i'll still get to play it and if KH3 goes to the Wii ( or rather when AMIRITE?) i'll get to play it as well.....so I'm cool as long as I get it. Now SO4 please come my way....cries.

By the time FFXIII is released in the US and Europe, this generation will almost be over. Certainly long over the climax. Both HD consoles will be cheapb (150 dollars - 250 dollars), and the whole X360 vs. PS3 battle would have been decided and moot in relation to FFXIII.

People are certainly overreacting. Especially considering it's still exclusive in Japan and will come out long before other territories there.

No need to say PS3 has lost. More people will enjoy the game.

PS2 and PS1 didn't need FF to sell like they did, but rather the FF titles were great additions to their respective libraries.
So true.

We won't see FFXIII in Europe/NA until 2010, and I'm sure bigger titles will have been released for both the 360 and PS3 since.

GT5 will easily be out by then too... I hope.

The conference is at 2:30 ET rite?

I hope this place doen't die again....yesterday I couldn't get on here and I was on GiantBomb twitter ( wow that sound wrong) and FFXIII on 360 popped up and I figured this palce would die............Just wait for whatever nintendo announces..

internet am die.

I just heard that Sony isn't going to debut their Fleshlight peripheral this E3. Now Sony will never win the console war!

I keep telling them it needs rumble AND motion control, but they can't seem to get them to work together.

Since EA was no show in MS conferenc. How Ironic would it be to see Peter Moore in Sony conference talking about edge and Madden :D

I was surprised to hear the GiantBomb guys say Mirror's Edge was shown on PS3. I always thought of Dice as a PC-centric developer.

Sony just doesn't have the money to throw around that MS does - the PS3 was expensive, and they are jut concentrating on internal development. The strategy is starting to remind me a little of Nintendo, which isn't a bad thing.

We'll see what is up with Sony's inhouse teams today. Hopefully, SOME of it will be available before the end of 2009..

yeah a lot of CG trailers when they have game like R2, LBP, and inFamous.

also sony has the exact same third party line up as the 360. plus they have the video store, home, and psp stuff to show.

im upset at sony for losing FFXIII exclusivity too but that doesnt mean they dont have anything else to show.

losing FFXIII means they know they have to work overtime to make up for it (i hope)

As long as Sony keeps giving first party games, I'm all gravy.

They do have a good chunk of stuff coming before the end of 2008, you know...:)

Of course, expect 09 stuff too (probably most of the new stuff), but there's a lot of stuff closer on the radar too.

for me GAF was running perfectly throughout the whole MS conference, until FFXIII appeared on the screen and all went tits up with GAF

In the end Nintendo didn't need third-party publishers to carry the console, not that third-party publisher support isn't important, it's paramount but Sony has been so overly reliant on third-party exclusives to drive hardware that they're starting to get burned big time because of that, strengthening first-party development is a good move for them, especially in the RPG area, they need to do this, not to alienate third-party publishers, but to make sure this will never happen again.

was the whole Cellius thing real?
I remember those three games, that turned out to be concept works - not actual games
and then not a whisper about the whole thing since

I think the FFXIII announcement just reinforces Nintendo's strategy that you can't trust *any* 3rd party publisher and that 3rd parties will blindside and turn their back on you (for some extra cash) at the slightest opportunity. The Wii's success is 100% Nintendo's effort with negligible help from 3rd parties. The Wii didn't get:

GTA IV
CoD4
MGS4
The mainline FFXIII(due to hardware restraints, but I wouldn't be surprised if they got a spinoff a la Versus XIII)
...and yet the Wii is spanking both MS and Sony in every major territory.
Nintendo learnt the hard way through N64 and GC that the bigger the industry gets, the more money hungry 3rd parties become and the more reliant console makers should be on their own games. Hopefully, Sony learns a lesson from this scenario and starts beefing up their internal dev teams cause only Sony can turn the PS3's fortunes around.

I don't think MS is throwing more money around on X360 at all. They never did. They are just putting money in different baskets. MS more towards third parties that they publish (Gears, NG2 and such), Sony more towards internal teams. I also very much doubt FFXIII going multi was influenced by any kind of MS moneyhat. Why should they have to pay for something that by all logic should exist in the first place. Sony would be the one who would have to moneyhat to prevent something like that from happening.

Cellius is actually a real company, and if I recall correctly is lead by Isao Nakamura. The 3 games that where leaked are apparently fake, their has been nothing announced by the company since the merge. :(

Do we all agree that HOME needs to be dated and that they should talk at length about their video service?
They need to start sign ups for Home beta phase 2. Specific date is not that important just as long it stays 2008. Sony are bound to talk about their video service (since they already did in their financial meeting, we've all the seen the pics).

HOME is already dated. We're gonna get information about the closed beta expansion that's gonna happen REALLY soon and reconfirmation of the Fall open beta.

I think we'll see that today, easily. I also dont think its a coincidence that we got a new PSP firmware on Sunday for a movie/tv store support.

In all seriousness Sony is no longer competing with Nintendo. That's why not many Motion control rumors have been flying around for Sony. Microsoft is attempting to compete with Nintendo and Sony simultaneously. What Sony needs to do today is show that FFXIII is not a big deal to them. They need to differentiate themselves from Microsoft as much as possible to try and draw in more people with games.

I mean FFXIII may seem like a big game but think about MGS4, it was supposed to be huge but system sales spiked for a month at best. I think we are beyond game selling systems. Sony needs to come out poised and strong against Microsoft.

they need to show GAMES

Indeed. I couldn't care less about Home. They need to go balls out with announcements and trailers. God of War, ICO, Infamous, anything.

If they have this large Home segment planned then I'll snooze off for a while, who gives a fuck

I hope we don't get powerpoint poisoning.

Am I like the only one who actually doesn't care about HOME and this video download service? I just want to see a lot more first party titles announced, I'm fairly pleased with what has been already announced especially from SCE-E/A. But SCEJ have yet to show me anything remotely entertaining :( The Last Guy appears to have potential...

I wonder if Nintendo or Sony for that matter are going to take a jab at MS for their "avatars".
That was plain embarrassing.

I bet the hardcore Gears of war fan is looking forward to creating their bald space marine "avatar". :lol

I agree about SCEJ. The last thing they really nailed was Patapon.

You'll like Home once you start using it :)
