The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Steam CCU hits 180k in nine hours after reveal/drop

Uninstalled. Game looks like shit. An hodgepodge of trash that don't mix together. It's like whoever put this together has zero sense of style and art direction. Nothing is consistent and who the hell made this awful intro?

And then you press the start, and the parchment-style menu doesn't even match with this generic-looking badass knight with fire behind him.

This looks comically better and is consistent with the in-game menus.

And this:

Looks far better than this absolute trash.

It's like this game was AI-generated. Looks like generic UE5 soup lmao.
I think I kinda agree from what I've seen. They even painted the grass brown

"The only real thing that can harm their sales is actually making a bad game..."

This is nonsense.

I greatly disagree. If they made a fucking good game, me buying Oblivion, merely means its one of the many games I'll buy this year and I'll still buy their game...

If the game is shit, if the game looks boring, nothing major coming out this year didn't mean I was magically going to just throw money at shit sir...

So again, the only REAL THING that can harm their sales, is a bad game, if the game is great, they will find those sales long terms, word of mouth etc.

Obviously Oblivion releasing makes no difference in the case of someone who wasn't going to buy Exp33 anyway.

I know right, its almost as if, them making a good game ,can get me to buy it, even after I'm done with Oblivion.... hmmmmmm

Notice how AC Shadows, Monster Hunter etc didn't stop me from buying Oblivion lol

Thats like saying Days Gone Remaster is stopping Exp33 lol

If your game is so bad, you must rely on other games NOT RELEASING in order to get sales, that alone is worrisome about their future. Maybe they should worry about making a great game.....I don't know what situation they will be in releasing with zero fucking competition or something

Even joking, lets say they delay it to next month, OH NO Doom is coming out, ok next month...OH NO Mafia Old Country,...maybe next ohhhh no, MGS3 remake (I mean, you don't want to get fucked by another remake bro) maybe next...ohhhh no Ghost Of Yotei , but maybe....oh noooo Death Stranding 2, but shit they could be wild open for Fal....oh no COD, GTAVI WTF! lol

So fuck all of this year, maybe next year no one will release games (Resident Evil 9 waiting to curb stomp Exp33)

If the game is good, people will come man, you can't just living this weird state of hoping ZERO COMPETITION exist for a game to do well.

Yeah, I am quite surprised that I have seen so many comments about this other game and how it isnt fair that MS released this at the same time. Like, seriously. Did anyone have a go at Rockstar for releasing Red Dead on the same day as Alan Wake. Release good games and they will find an audience. Trying to put down a publisher for releasing their game on the same day / week as another seems a bridge too far for me.

Agreed.

We see games release all the time that overlap in releases and do just fine.

No publisher has no ode to delay their release for other titles as I have no clue where that even ends, at any given week there is some indie game releasing. Using this logic, it would be like saying don't even release Elder Scrolls at all to help Exp 33 as if the goal of MS, is to have their games fail in favor of Exp33 lol Its like, we need to make that shit make at least some sort of sense

edit. oh yea Doom is coming out next month, is MS to delay Doom too for this game or? Just don't release games at all, some indie game may be releasing that month lol

TES VI is gonna do INSANE numbers.
Yups, even if somehow bethesda manages to fuck it up, initial 20m sold copies or at least 20m active players is a given, how well its gonna do after that depends solely on quality of the game tho, hoping for the best here ofc since im longterm fan but u never know with modern day bethesda, hell fresh new no name studio would have more trust and good faith from me coz if such new studio has ppl with decent IQ they just use previous elder scrolls games as template, with bethesda we simply dont know, they could go crazy weird thinking they rediscovering the wheel and are in the right :D

MS is publishing the other game here. MS released Oblivion as a shadow drop.

Now some of the folks who were buying one MS turned based RPG will conceivably play Oblivion Remastered. By the time they finish they may be drawn to another release instead.

The issue is MS is fucking over a small studio they themselves are publishing basically. Rockstar didn't publish Alan Wake Remastered.

lol people have problem with few games releasing in a month… they have not experienced Xbox 360. Many many games every month. No problem

Really depends on the company. In MS case that was due to their really dumb bell curve reviews so people could advance better but making sure other teams fucked up vs actually improving their own side. (They are going back to this, lol).

Whatever is going on at Intel after many years of financial tomfoolery and mismanagement you still don't have 1/5th of the company being useless.

Remember that unlike that chart above, Intel is at the end a hardware manufacturer.

MS had the first Clair Obsur reveal and marketed it as a day one Gamepass game. It's not a good look to release a game in the same genre as your partner game on the same day. Makes it less likely small publishers will want to work with you.

I bought both, so it doesn't matter to me, but it might matter to the success of the smaller game.

Microsoft publishing Claire obscure? I wasnt aware of that?

Now I'm curious about this game's staying power, Starfield has been averaging 3k players while Skyrim has been averaging 20k, if Oblivion manages to keep a Skyrim level of numbers then Bethesda might actually learn a few very important things to keep in mind during VI's development.
A smaller but deeper world is better than a huge but very shallow one.
It got no mod support so it stands no chance achieving that.

They're not a publisher but they seem to have a marketing deal with them. Clair Obscur was even on that recent dev showcase thingie

I am sorry, but a marketing deal and a gamepass game has nothing to do with Microsofts release schedule and what they see as a good time to release their game.

We are now going to microsoft has too many games. Wild.

Thing is this might not be about number of released games, but more about a weird situation that kinda happened that may or may not impact this game

What people are trying to point out is the fact that Microsoft decided to release the remaster of their high profile game a few days earlier before a different game that seems to have a marketing deal with them. A game they were actively promoting as Clair Obscur was on their showcases, is GamePass day one release, etc. But more importantly it isn't really that type of juggernaut as The Elder Scrolls, with it being a new IP, a AA game from a brand new studio, etc. When they setted that release date they most likely didn't knew Oblivion will drop that day as its launch date was meant to be a surprise, while their launch date was setted months in advance. We can only speculate if they talked with each other about it and when they realized they're releasing the game in the same week

I think this might be a reason why people keep bringing it up, not the fact it's a crowded week or anything like that

Yep. I legit thought MS was publishing the game with how much promotion and "face time" they gave it.

Some modders are already figuring out how to mod this remaster via old TESIV Construction Set. While I wouldn't count for the same amount of mods that Skyrim and Fallout 4 has, this will definitely have some community behind it, even without official support from Bethesda / Virtuos

I don't think anyone is disputing that quality affects sales. You are disputing that competition affects sales, which is an absurd position to take. You also keep arguing as though sales are binary, which is also absurd.

If Oblivion hadn't shadow dropped right on top of them, what would their most significant competitor be right now? Not much that I can think of, which would obviously have been a much better scenario for them.

It's interesting that you mention GTA VI - a game which everyone else is desperate to avoid releasing alongside... Why is that I wonder?

Because they're not the publisher. The publisher is Kepler Interactive Limited. The person above who made that stupid claim could have looked at any of the storefronts to figure that out but maybe they couldn't due to all the hand wringing.

I really enjoyed this game at the time, but like all Bethesda games there comes a point where the game breaks down and there is no challenge, it all becomes very artificial. If the gameplay and narrative haven't improved, I don't understand so much excitement for this remaster. I guess Bethesta has a lot of fans.

There will be a fair number of people who have never played it.

Modding on Gamebryo is a nightmare. You have to hold New Vegas together with duct tape and staples.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it went over 300k. A lot of people who will be playing it this weekend don't even know it exists yet.

What else are people going to pay? Another lazy GAAS?

Did around 175k tonite and started going down, looks like next hope for higher ccu will be friday to saturday night, then final stretch saturday to sunday night.

It may go up again tonight. Not sure if yesterday's later than usual peak was a one off or if it's going to follow the same pattern SoM did where it peaked later on weekdays and then reverted to normal peak at the weekend.

Sure...

You going to have to get over that Exp game being mid man lol

It's currently the highest reviewed game of the year.
Fuck do i care? lol Good for them

And can you believe Nintendo had the nerve to put the pre-order's out of Switch 2 on this game's released? WOW, I mean...HOW DARE THEY! /s

Who would have thought? Give gamers a proper good game and they'll jump even if it is "just" a remaster of a grand old game.

But but but muh day one Gamepass means it can't sell !!
Have we been lied all this time ? 🤥

Anyway the game slaps even harder than the original release (finally playable in third person with much better animation) with reshade to get closer to the original color palette.

Spiked up over 200k when they removed DLSS from the Gamepass version, by mistake of course… of course……..

Joking, no surprise it's doing well. Deserves to go above Starfield imo but it depends on the modding scene now I think. Modding is doable on Gamepass but from a quick glance it seems to take some extra steps, I went with Steam on Starfield for this reason, if the modding scene blows up on Oblivion it should climb higher.
