Wake anyone up and they'll go through the normal conversation tree, maybe complaining that you woke them up before you start talking. It's admittedly kind of dumb, but whatever, too fun for me to care about logic.

I did it with a trainer who took me on a quest, but it works equally well at night. Just keep pickpocketing the gold you spent to train with them, repeat until maxed.

I really need to buy a house at this point though, I'm carrying ~100 weight worth of books.
Trainers might but a lot of NPCs won't work with you when they're trying to go to sleep. I've managed to make it into shops before they close sometimes, as they're closing, and the shop keepers won't sell you anything (even though they're standing there, since they're in their 'walking to bed' routine. On the same token, the dude in Whiterun that you buy the house from - he only has the "Buy Decorations" conversation option during the day time. Think it's the same for the Stable Masters to for buying a horse.

Leveling up my pickpocketing skills has been a massive pain in the ass. Every time I pick pocket someone they notice me and I get a bounty put on my head :/

Any good place I can do this without having to pay to get out of jail?

The guy before you said people in guild though. Can I do that with the Archer trainer outside of Riverwood? Or do I need to join a guild to do this?

Edit: Thread was moving so fast earlier I was sure someone had posted before me :/

Dirty double post!

I've only done mechanics design before. When the editor rolls around, I'll be glad to show something :)

Edit: I didn't mean to come across as rude or anything, by the way. I'm just genuinely interested in doing some dungeon stuff when the editor comes out.

no worries. i was just being inquisitive. :)

I love this game.

I kind of accepted with Morrowind and Oblivion that Bethesda had to dump a lot of traditional game design elements due to the scale of those games and loved them despite that. No idea how the hell they managed to bring those elements back in Skyrim - dungeons and quests are actually compelling and unique now and music has become a lot less incidental. It all just feels so much tighter and cohesive than before.

People are finding dragons easy? What build are you guys using. My mage has to spend his whole magicka bar to take 20-30% of the dragon's health away. And if I get caught in its tail hit or breath, it's a 2 hit kill.

Though it seems that dragons are very inconsistent. I have faced 2 so far, I beat the first one (story related) and he seemed way easier than the optional one that attacked me. That one 2 hit killed me and I did shit for damage against him.

Amazing.

If I take Lydia out with me and, out in the wilderness, I tell her that "I think we should part ways" would she head back to my house or will that permanently get rid of her? Also does she Fast Travel with me? I never really played with Companions in Fallout 3 or New Vegas.

I kind of want to start taking her out with me but sometimes I get sidetracked or get to a dungeon I plan to be in for a while (where I can't take her because I play stealthily) I'd hate to just tell her to Wait and then have to escort her all the way home.

Would like to see some of the stuff like messages and bloodstains from D. Souls in a future TES game.

She will go back to your house if you have one. Otherwise she will go back to the Jarl's castle. Either way, she does not go away for good. You can always go back and she'll join up with you again.

I take her with me pretty much everywhere. She's pretty good in a fight for being AI, and having a companion makes crowd control a lot easier.

she'll go back "home"

How are you guys defending yourself as a mage? I find it really difficulty to stay alive in a lot of fights. Iam using only cloth robes and no armor / shields.

Just started the Dark Brotherhood questline. It already feels even better than the last one.

There are spells to increase your armor. Restoration has those ward spells, and Alteration has some shield stuff too.

A lot of kiting, relying on my companion and ward spells

Edit: the freeze shout is also amazing for creating distance as a mage

Hi Gaf,
Got this recently. Still haven't played. My first elder scrolls. What am I in for?

as a dual wielding stealth character with light armor, i already take some serious damage. have to be careful in huge brawls or on "boss" type chars. it has also influenced me to level the first perks in 1h/light armor as quickly possible.

It gets easier once you get a companion to join you. Mage takes a few levels to acquire the gold and experience to utilize properly.

Hmmm, I am hoping to get as many quests done as possible. Seems like there will be cut-off points as factions and whatnot interfere with each other?

The time of your life.

Anyways, here's this question another Gaffer and I have. Someone help us

Where are there guilds? I haven't run across any yet.

I'm mostly interested in them because someone here said that you can pick pocket the trainers from the guild.

Shiiiiiiiiit, 25,000 for a house in Solitude? I thought the market was supposed to be down.

Maybe i have to focus on Alchemy for a bit so that i dont run out of mana all the time until then :)

I just did it in Whiterun and saved often. You NEED points in the pickpocket tree in order to steal better loot otherwise you will only be able to net small gains for your efforts.

Problem is it's tough getting points :/

I added one point into pick pocket skills.

OK, this was pretty funny
In the guilds there are a handful of trainers. So I have been leveling my pick pocketing up so that I get a bonus when stealing gold and while someone is sleeping.

1. Go in to train at night 5 times.
2. Rob the trainer while he sleeps and get my cash back.
3. Level up.
4. Begin the robbing and training all over again.
5. Great success!

You can do that?! Oh man I gotta try this

A combination of Restoration (ward), Alteration (stoneskin), Conjuration (atronach/zombie) and general movement. When I go into battle, I usually have bound sword or a ranged Destruction spell on my right and switch my ward onto my left after casting an atronach out in front of me. Sometimes it helps to use Unrelenting Force to get something off you for a second so you can reposition or cast a heal if you need to. Also consider working on your alchemy/enchanting to give yourself more buffs.

I'm drawing a comparison to most well executed dungeons in general. There's a lot to be improved upon with regards to them.

well, I have to agree with that.

Dude, these random times when my FPS drops are getting ridiculous. There's no rhyme or reason to it. One area that I get 60fps on will be 4fps next time I see it, then I'll alt-tab and back and it's fine. Then I walk through a door to an indoor area and it's back down to 10fps. Alt-tab here doesn't work, so I'll quit, and reload without changing anything, and it's back to 60fps. Whaaaat. I guess I'll try the new drivers.

I'm curious, what is it about Skyrim that sets it apart from Oblivion? What exactly does it do better? I wasn't all that fond of Oblivion, which is why I've staid my wallet at this point so far. God damn this game looks so good, but I'm afraid to jump the gun based on my experience with Oblivion. I'm definately buying this but it's a question of how soon.

The game also poses a legitimate challenge. If something looks big and scary it probably is difficult to kill. Whereas in Oblivion the "hard" encounters simply involved hacking and slashing at something for 10 hours for it to die without any risk of dying.

Is there a way to drag a body outside a house with the load screen?

Also, if you get someones house key, is the house yours?

Anyone know if chests/sacks/bags/cupboards/end tables/wardrobes etc. in your houses respawn? I'm paranoid about that shit ever since I lost a bunch of stuff in the Arch-Mage's quarters in Oblivion due to a respawning container. Hopefully they didn't make that mistake again.

I did an impromptu test and waited 30 in day games and nothing respawned, so hopefully that means my stuff is safe.

On the PC you can use the command console to both move a body between cells and set ownership to containers - if you're playing on the consoles, just drag the corpse to the basement and cover it with something. Maybe put some flowers to cover the smell...

The keys are just there to open locks, they don't signify ownership at all. You can test if a chest or house is safe if you drop something on the ground / place in the chest, go somewhere else and wait for 72 hours and then return to check if they're still there.

Start doing some stuff near Markarth (sp?). The cities are SO much better designed than Oblivion's. And just the whole world feels better than Oblivion's. Better quests, better combat, better environments, better cities. Hell, better everything. Ungh, this game is taking over me.

It's probably my GOTY. And is creeping into my top games of the gen. But dunno where it'll finish at the end of it all.

Haha ok, thanks.

Know what console commands you could use?

I can't bring my self to live in the house of the person(s) I murdered. Feel bad about it haha. I wanted to drag bodies between basements to put them together. Thought it would be fitting for lovers to lay hand in hand.

Really? Tried two different dungeons and both times she died fast to a bandit and a drauger. Seemed like a waste since she's so fragile.

I think I'm in love with Lidia. She doesn't complain (much) when I ask her to hold all my stuff in her bottomless purse, she's saved my ass on more than one occasion, and she has the same passion for blood and violence that I do. Plus she doesn't mind when i ditch her to go hang out with my bros. In the few instances when she's died in battle I've been so heartbroken that I reload a previous save.

I want to marry her, we would make a kick-ass husband/wife duo.

Check the npc's ref id (open command console and click on it, should have something like 000e3ab8, remember it - be sure you click on the NPC, not some ambient light source or whatever, get real close). Then go where you want them, type 'prid [refid here]' then 'moveto player'.

Is this my horse standing on top of a castle rampart? Why yes, yes it is. And why is he standing up there you may ask? Well I'll tell you why, cause he refused to take any shit. When some bandits in this old fort decided to start taking pot shots at us, I dismounted to let rip with some bowstring action of my own. I couldn't get an arrow notched before my trusty steed charged into the castle like a cot damn maniac, ran up the stairs, and mule kicked some idiot down on the ground. Then he just chilled up there like "bitch what", letting everyone knows who's boss. My horse had a bloodlust it seems.
