The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC Performance discussion

Edit - Nevermind, I fixed it.

I reinstalled again but this time made sure my Skyrim folder was empty before reinstalling. Certainly worked.

Thanks for the help anyway guys.

Lulz new issue, ridiculously low fps indoors looking in certain directions. I know an ini tweak is at fault, not sure which one though. Any ideas?

I'm going to go from an ini that works and one by one add in my tweaks and check each time to find the culprit.

Shadow res at 8k maybe?

When I tried 8k my outdoors fps was fine, but some spots indoors would plummet to single digits. Sounds similar to your issue, so thought it might be worth a shot.

THANKS!

It worked, I just switched between 8192 and 4096 and it was night and day, saved me going through everything. :D

CPU mod does work to increase FPS but man it really does cause errors when it comes to quests and such. Had to finally turn it off after about 8 hours of it being on. Was getting strange completion issues on a number of companion quests and timed quests. Turned it off and everything worked instantly.

Bethesda needs to take a look and take as much as they can from it but NOT introduce the pathing and quest issues and we will have a winner.

Try as I might, I still can't get rid of the damn framerate hitching even though I'm locked at 60 80% of the time. I have an i5 2500k and a 1gb 6950.

Hmm, I'm getting no obvious improvement. Frame rate stays 37-40 in cities.

Log says it loaded correctly, so guess I'm just an unlucky one :p

plugin G:\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\TESVAL.dll (00000001 TESVAL 00000001) loaded correctly

Edit* on i5 @ 4.0GHz

Try putting the .dll directly in the plugin folder, not in a sub folder. Thats how mine is setup

Is there any way to play this game in windows mode? Having to constantly alt+tab to get out of the game to browse UESP is annoying, and it crash my game after a few alt+tabs on top of that.

You can set windowed mode in the launcher. Or use the Steam overlay browser?

Hi guys!
Could you explain me what is wrong with my lighting? I can as clear as day at night time and at day time it's just blinding. I'm using ENB series mod but the others who use it don't have the same problem as me.

What do I need to tweak to have a really dark night and a normal day?

I personally wouldn't bother with ENB.. there are other similar mods that achieve the same (if not better).

Those setting looks quite good!
Can You post shots from other locations? Like Whiterun inside and outside, any dungeon, Dawnstar, Riften, Solitude [day and night and from outside].
Thanks ;]

I don't find them that good. Also I'm only at the begining of the game, I didn't get to Whiterun yet. I'm trying lots of mods before I seriously get to it. I find it disturbing to see that clearly mountains in the dark. It's like an overall lack of darkness and shadow, the night is bright like there is a full moon, I just want the game to be darker. Should I get rid of ENB series even if I lose the better colors and post processing?

Try this instead of the enb series: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4323
No performance drops since the ingame light settings are being modified themselves.

I've become addicted to mods, anyone found any amazing ones recently that deserve a spotlight?

(I am aware of the latest performance increasing one)

Anything from isoku, no more blocky faces, detailed faces, detailed bodies, enhanced blood textures, enhanced night sky, skyrim flora overhaul/lush grass...
Just from the top of my head.

Have most of those, I didn't like the look of the flora overhaul when I checked it out a while ago. But I'll have another look.

Cheers.

Are there any good respec mods out there?

I could just use the console, but if someone has implemented it into the game (as a potion or scroll or something) I would rather use that.

@Dmax

Avoid the SKyrim 2k one as some are reporting errors.

I am actually in the process of updating the current ones and added a few. If your GPU has over 1GB of RAM then grab Vurts Flora, Serious HD Retexture, Realistic water, Re-define dungeons, sun glare, and enhanced night skyrim. There are more but you should not get too overboard before the real deal hits next month in the CK.

Oh wow didn't know redefine dungeons had been updated!

What do you recommend, both the main files I guess, what about the wall murals?

I used Enhanced Shaders

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=822

There are optional folders for effects such as natural colors..then an option for default, or darker nights, HDR etc.

Are there any major overhaul mods planned for when the Creation Kit is released (in the same vein/scope as Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul)?

I also really, REALLY hope the team from Nehrim (Oblivion total conversion and one of the best RPGs EVER) decides to make another mod for Skyrim. As good as Skyrim is, Nehrim blows it out of the water in terms of pure RPG experience.

It was truly the spiritual successor to Morrowind.

Anyone using the TESV Acceleration Layer (which I assume is most people at this point) should go grab the latest version off the Nexus.

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4387

There was a bug in the .01 release version that was causing the scripting errors.
A whopping 1 fps more in HD Whiterun. Well my GPU is the bottleneck rather than my CPU so I guess I won't really benefit from this mod. Still a great effort though.

Edit:
I tried it in the sweetspot and did notice a significant bump, but on average when doing a walkthrough I do not notice it and neiother does FRAPS.

Mod manager thinks all the different redefined dungeons are the same... which one to go with?

Go with only 2 files, the floors WIP and the newest one under that. One should be 40mb and the other around 110. They both worked for me.

And I;m adding the fix for the CPU mod to the OP. DL HERE

Usually worse in skyrims case.

That's why I stick with simple cosmetic ones so far. The farthest I've gone are the dungeon textures but they look outstanding and no different in terms of the design. The rest have been mainly HD textures and water style mods.

haven't played this for ages because im stuck in whiterun, everytime i move outside i ctd which blows.

will wait to see if they can sort these out otherwise i'll have to go back to a really old save, fffuu

Try using console commands to teleport somewhere further away like solitude or something.

See if that helps.

Don't know hat the right commands are though sorry, google might help.

i've tried everything like that but i think the save is boinked

even if i got out somehow i was still getting a ctd before when i went towards the imperial/stormcloak quest i was on

i have stuff to keep me busy but i hope they can resolve it, i wanna finish the last few
quests and "complete" everything before dlc comes out

You try backing up ini's, delete them and have the game respec and then restoring ini, backup verifying cache on Steam, use the CPU fix, the memory ini tweak?

Trying to get a gauge on what you've done.

You have to do a lot of tweaking to get it looking close to right. Unfortunately close is all you'll ever get as there are some unfixable issues with ENB at the moment (unfixable by the user anyway, I'm sure it will improve).

I use the Enhanced Shaders someone posted above in conjunction with the Himmelsrand Shaders for color correction and other post process effects.

TESV Acceleration Layer offers CPU optimization, massive possible performance increases

http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/13...formance-increases-now-in-skse-plugin-format/

Anybody try this yet?

Worked great for me. Whiterun overlook went from 20fps to 28fps, and Markarth overlook went from 20fps to 29fps. Doesn't sound like much but it's very noticeable in gameplay. Normal walking around towns went from 23 to 37. So now I'm getting nearly 30fps at the very worst. Not bad. :)

Phenom II 940BE @ 3.60GHz
8GB DDR2 RAM
EVGA 560ti 1GB Superclocked (900MHz).

I'm using, and loving, the Immersive HUD mod, but I'm wondering if anyone has created a 'smaller crosshair' mod? I'm thinking just a dot right in the middle of the screen (like Mirrors Edge).

I've gotten used to not having it there at all, but I still want something there when I'm using bows, but now I find the default one too obtrusive. Any ideas?

EDIT: Confidence Man, that nature shot looks beautiful.
