What episode is this from? i can't seem to find it.

I believe that's either the first episode or the "episode" before the first episode. I'm not entirely sure though. I think it dealt with the PS4 reveal in Feb. of 2013.

Its from the very first one he did. before he got the show. I think its called like "Things sony should do" or something like that.

Thanks guys. It was from his first episode called "PlayStation Meeting Dos and Don'ts". It is even funnier with sound.

So me and a couple of guys from the site I work on part-time got a chance to sit down with Kyle and interview him, thought you guys might be interested in reading that.

There is also an audio version that has some stuff which didn't make it into the written piece:

Kyle is a great guy. I didn't speak during the interview but I was there recording, and thats me in the introduction of the audio version after the cold open. He is definitely the guy you see on the show, just a really genuine person who is passionate about games.

Oh, and he absolutely loves the Gifs people make of him.

Very cool interview. I'm glad to hear Kyle is the guy he seems to be. There's people in this very thread who say they dislike Kyle because he seems so fake. The internet has trained people to be skeptical of anyone appearing sincere that some can't even believe Kyle is a real person.

By the way, It's funny the interviewer brings up how Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is an awesome game that no one talks about. I couldn't agree more. Recently I had a hankering to play it again and just two days ago I bought it on Steam for $2.50. I think it might still be on sale if anyone wants to pick it up.

I think trying to talk about Ground Zeroes is a futile effort at this point. Nobody is changing their stance regarding its "paid demo" status and it only serves to rile up both sides. Having said that, I'm glad Kyle loved it and I hope other fans of MGS love it too. It's obviously not for me (I'm not an MGS fan) but I can recognize that others can find value in it. My only concern is that it might set a bad precedent. Even so, I guess I can continue to ignore these kinds of releases. So who knows. Video games, man.

...but that bonus bit ending tho! I think there should be a supercut of all the Bosman Bonus Bits. sogood.gif

This is what, two episodes now where Kyle defends Ground Zeroes? At least this time he did it after playing the fucking thing.

Wow, don't know if these tears are from the laughter or from that
heartbreaking
ending.
Such disrespect for a great character,
thanks Kyle!

This episode made me want to buy the game even more.

Alright episode. I will agree with Kyle that sometimes games are worth their price, even short ones. As he made it sound, 30 bucks was a good price to him. Just have to hope it's not a growing trend.

Also
I'm going to miss Liquid.

I would tell you that you're opinion is horrible Kyle, but I'll reserve judgment til I play it at a much, much, much cheaper price. Yeah, that's three muches.

I'm also willing to compromise on the glorious demo language. My people will be in touch with your people to work out the specifics.

I don't really get how every journalist calls GZ a ripoff, but calls Gone Home a GOTY contender. Someone needs to help me understand, because my best guess is that one is Japanese-made and the other isn't. In fact, journalists lambasted any commenters who suggested Gone Home was a rip-off. What about Journey? That was $15.

Indie bias.

Journey and Gone Home feature a complete narrative, a total experience. Ground Zeroes is not. It's a small, truncated section from a much bigger game, and it plays more like a Peace Walker epilogue. And frankly, for me, this small section MGSV isn't particularly compelling, as it shouldn't be since it's more or less a tutorial for another game. As an aside, I personally find the side ops to be throwaway shit.

While there is some bandwagoning going on, apart from being short those three games are pretty different.

Gone Home criticism also seemed to focus more on the stupid "not a game" thing.

For what it's worth I don't think the price is all that bad.

Couldn't agree with Kyle more in this ep. I got GZ and Infamous on the same day, and although I love Infamous and think it's a great game, Metal Gear is what I've been going back to again and again all week.

Completely agree with him. I just started inFamous last night, but I'm right now feeling more of an urge to S Rank those Hard missions in Ground Zeroes. It's just that good.

Hm, I'll say I agree with the title of this week's episode, and point #1. I also agree with him that his opinion that Ground Zeroes is worth $30 is wrong.

To be honest, it was entirely based on it being one of those games I have to remind myself "Oh yeah, that game was so fucking good". So I felt like it fit the question really well.

On topic: I think Ground Zeroes is in this weird place where I do think it deserves some criticism for feeling like an appetizer to the main course(Phantom Pain), but at the same time I don't like judging games on gameplay per square inch. I don't enjoy talking about a games quality in terms of how long it is. I'd rather get a 3 hour game that is consistently excellent than a 50 hour experience that never goes above good.

Which is really why he likes it so much. Fundamentally playing GZ is probably really enjoyable(MG has always had entertaining gameplay). And frankly, I know most of the internet isn't exactly cool with paying 60 bucks for every game, so I don't see why this is such a super unique case. I'm perfectly fine waiting for a price I feel comfortable with, and I wish the media took that side into account as well.

I don't think every write up of this game needs to be pro-consumer/pro-product. You can sort of see both angles on it.

Also instantly lol'd at the wig.

Huh? There was a lot of discussion on how $15 was too much for Gone Home and Journey.

Its because art.

First of all -- you realize that Gone Home only received like 2 GOTY awards out of hundreds, right?

And the only reason you can think of is because reviewers have some horrible bias against Japanese games? Maybe it's because Gone Home has an interesting story that deals with subject matter not common to videogames. Maybe it's because the story is told in a refreshing way.

Or maybe it's because Konami has the audacity to package a one-hour demo and call it Metal Gear Solid 5. Or maybe it's because GZ just isn't doing very much that is new or interesting, and other games that are unique or attempt to stretch the boundaries of gaming tend to get a bit more leeway. GZ does not compare very favorably with other open-world games in terms of value. Gone Home and Journey are kind of incomparable....if you want to experience what they have to offer, you pay for the ticket and take the ride.

Who is "every journalist"? This is really just lazy. Cite some examples.

It's interesting the difference between what Kyle said in this video and what Angry Joe said in his on the subject of Ground Zeroes.

I actually like Kyle's show more then Joe's but in his latest video Kyle attempts to use feelings as an argument, and while Kyle can be heartfelt and sometimes it's the right way to think about certain issues, I think Angry Joe made some actual arguments. Things that feel like they should be address and not simply felt and dismissed or overlooked.

Joe points out how this could set a dangerous precedent and the lack of content, as well as the fact that you can play any game for 200+ hours if you wanted to, replaying games isn't a feature limited to Ground Zeroes, it shouldn't be hailed as one. also my favorite argument of all,
because fuck you give me money
I also rather like the comparison to Dead Rising's $5 dollar experience vs this. <-- that's a valid argument, and I feel Kyle's stance on GZ has nothing to offer to meet it.

Another great point that I feel Kyle doesn't see is the possibility of putting the game in as a demo for something recent by them... how about LoS2? It had just came out too. This would not only have increased sales of LoS2 and exposed more players to that series, it would have been seen as a cool move by Konami, not selling the "game" at all. Also, according to every forum I visit, people everywhere claim to have bought Zone of the Enders back in the day for the demo of mgs2. It would have not only been a cool gesture but it would have harkened back to the old days.

I feel like this was a pretty badly reasoned, but strongly felt episode. I think those who agree with Kyle on this aren't being true to themselves, this is what blind desire does to people. At least wait to find a used copy, or rent it. Don't send the wrong message to the industry.

At the very least, Kyle does acknowledge that his opinion here is more based on feelings than actual facts on the right/wrong thing to do, and I can appreciate that.
