All Eddie had to do was be like "There's a case I'm working on. The details are pretty gruesome and also confidential, so I can't share I'm afraid. Sorry. I'll be fine."

Of course, he didn't do that cause he's an awkward as hell liar, and now we have this whole mess.

Eddie and Caitlyn are both bad. Eddie always looks like he left the stove on at home since he found out.

And surely they know telling Cat is tantamount to telling Wells, right? She can't lie.

quite possible, but also seems like something that wouldn't make much sense to introduce until season 3 or 4 after wally has been introduced and been around for a while.

a Hunter Zolomon style story for Eddie would make perfect sense using Barry instead of Wally.

I suppose you could go that route if you wanted to redefine the origin of Thawne. If they want to continue down the Thawne line though it would make more sense to go an alternate route on the Malcolm Thawne just with Malcolm being named eddie and
his powers being from a different source.

plus it would just make more sense
for another speedster to be a few seasons away instead of what eddie becomes.

plus the actor is almost a perfect fit for the Malcolm role lol
malcolm stats

eddie stats
lol.

I guess yeah. The powers are more varied, although Zoom isn't technically a speedster. I just don't find Malcolm Thawne all that interesting and the brother angle is just groanworthy.

It's an amazing talent the teams on these shows have. The ability to have female characters go through harrowing experiences or just generally be treated poorly and still manage to engender no sympathy from the audience.

Iris has everyone in her life constantly lying to her. Everyone now including her boyfriend, who is suddenly acting very strange and won't talk to her. Her best friend's love for her means that he frequently shows no respect for her relationship. She's generally treated like an idiot and a child by her friends, family, and co workers. Everyone hates her.

Laurel sinks into a deep depression following the death of her boyfriend (which she is somewhat responsible for) that has her becoming an alcoholic and nearly killing herself. This plotline includes a fun scene where the show's main character, the hero, basically mocks her alcoholism cause she made him angry.
Pulls herself out of that, gets to a good place, only to find her sister dead in an alleyway. Is left to mostly grieve alone because she's locked out of the investigation by Oliver and is afraid to tell her father because of his failing health. So she finds a new outlet in boxing, eventually trains to take her sister's mantle and becomes the new Black Canary. Helps save Starling City from Brick and works to help Team Arrow from both within the legal system and on the streets.
Everyone hates her.

Felicity is
rejected by the man she loves because reasons, and then watches him make every stupid, selfish decision possible showing no real concern for everyone else. Such decisions include him going off to fight the head of an assassin organization to the death, being "killed," then going to get a rematch cause his ego was bruised, then considering joining said assassin organization. She finally starts to tell his stupid ass off,
and everyone turns on her. Immediately.

Like, how do you fumble this shit this badly? How do you write these characters in such a way that your audience simply cannot see things from their perspective and notice when their reactions are justified? Obviously, I left details out and those details are the things that answer my question. lol Things like
dragging out Laurel telling Capt Lance,
or giving Iris pretty much nothing to do for the first third or so of the season besides be Barry's unrequited love are sorts of decisions that get in the way with these characters.

Still, as many of us say in this here thread, at least they aren't Barbara from Gotham.

Edit: added spoiler tags for those of y'all who haven't seen Season 3 of Arrow.

From what we know about Iris, she's going to flip out on everyone for lying to her and treating her like a child. Which is totally justified from her perspective, but is also going to cement the fact that the fanbase will hate her forever.

I find it absolutely insane and terrible that the CW has gone from writing some of the best female characters on television ever to this drivel. This is the same network that brought us Nikita, for Christ's sake. I know, I know, different teams, but it drives me bonkers.

They need to take some lessons from Nikita.

I actually don't know the lore on a lot of stuff with the flash, just bits and pieces here and there and what I have looked up. It's part of the reason I am really enjoying this series as while I am familer with the flash and know some stuff do to shows like justice league/young justice ect I don't know a ton so most things are fresh and interesting.

Alas lots of people know stuff in this thread so I had to familiarize myself with a number of people in the flash universe to keep up :P

the Thawne story line does sound goofy, but they could just use it as a guideline and make up new stuff for the goofier stuff like the brother stuff.

Honestly of this is how they would turn Eddie into zoom then I'm for it. Zoom's origin in the comics is decent but it has him getting on the cosmic treadmill. Maybe Eddie could get on the treadmill here and paralyze himself. They go that route and boom. New reverse flash. But they need to hold onto that for a while. We don't need another speedster right after wells. It will feel cheap. Especially when wells is such a schemer and zoom would be "I lost my woman because of you!"

Or some of its predecessors from the WB/UPN. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel come to mind immediately.

Damn Iris's character is just so poorly written and comes off as really selfish.

"YOU MUST TELL ME EVERY SINGLE THING IN YOUR LIFE OR WE BREAK UP!!!!"

She is feeling that he has been acting strange and wants to know what it is about. Not THAT difficult to grasp, its called being in a relationship.

Would you just stop asking your other half about an issue when you are certain there is something up ? Weird that everyone is suggesting that she should just STFU and drop it when its clearly is bothering both of them.

And yeah trust is big part of a relationship, so yeah keeping essential stuff to yourself is a reason to break up.

Is she supposed to be some kind of Wonderkind or Genius or whats up with the high expectation of her character ? I havent read the comics but for some reason people here seem perplexed by a young woman and her couple screw ups. Something that never would happen in real life...especially when it comes to relationships and men - right ?

Or The 100 or Reign. Or even Star-Crossed, The Originals and The Vampire Diaries.

The whole keep the person we care about in the dark to protect them is dumb and always has been and is a trope that needs to die so bad.

Also I am in the minor here but I can't understand how Barry has not attacked Doctor Wells since figuring out he killed his mom. Forget all this planing and plotting crap Barry should have been so mad he loses control, attacks Wells forcing him to use his power. I know they have to fill a certain number of episodes but Barry has been obsessed with his mom's killer his whole life and now he's waiting for what.

It depends on the context. It isn't always about protection. In this case it is, and it's poorly done, but it's not always like that.

And also, they have to be careful around Wells because the last time they fought, Barry got the shit kicked out of him and they still don't know what he's even up to. Good idea to attack a super smart guy who is more powerful on a whim, right?

Shouldn't be about a good idea it should be about Barry doing it because of his mom. Being a good idea isn't going to stop Barry from going back to try to save his mom . Not saying its logical I just like the idea of him not being able to take it and just takes action.

Relationships aren't 0-100/all or nothing things. Trust needs to be there but it's something that grows overtime and is earned by both parties. There's also the fact that it is absolutely unreasonable to demand that your significant other must completely open up to you. It's hostile and disrespectful to their own process and feelings.

What really seals the feeling that Iris is going too hard on this issue is the conversation she had with Barry. He puts into perfect context what Eddie could be dealing with internally and relates it to what they've already seen from Joe over the years. Iris even acknowledges that Barry is right... but then decides she doesn't care if he's right, she wants to know what's up regardless or else.

Nobody is suggesting that Iris isn't allowed to make mistakes. To err is Human after all. However that doesn't mean that other people shouldn't react negatively to those mistakes. That's perfectly Human behavior as well.

Barry doesn't have the personality to support such a reaction. He's not vengeful. He's seeking justice.

Or you know, tell her that he's working with the Flash. Big whoop.

Or just tell her that Barry's the flash since literally everyone else in Central City knows including fucking Captain Cold.

Hell, Ray Palmer knew and he hadn't even met Barry yet.

As much as I praise this show for it's writing so far, this is getting fairly ridiculous.

I'm kind of amazed how shit Iris can be at times considering the majority of The Flash writing staff is female according to Kai Yu wu.

Idk what happened last episode.. Maybe they used The Arror format/formula (I don't watch that crap) but last episode was like for kids. The whole drop the mic thing was corny (although my friend, an arrow fan, was going nuts when she did it, I even missed dialogue because of his screaming)

Listen. I like humor.. But I doubt little kids are watching this show.

I hate when they throw logic out the window (why wouldn't Eddie just tell her a good lie, he's working on a case or something.. Or more realistically, why the fuck would Iris break up with him because of it? Especially after that speech Barry told her.. It's fucking dumb) something Caytlan (spelling?) has been doing all season.

And holy shit now she knows Wells is RF. good luck trying to keep that secret. I wonder what bullshit lie she will come up with when Wells asks her why the fuck she's acting weirder than usual.

Idk, I guess I want a more serious tone and not corny jokes. This has been my favorite series so far (well I just watched DareDevil and that shit was awesome) but the childish jokes (omfg drop the mic are you serious?)

I want this show to do what it has done all season long. Give me the feels and the urge to time travel to next week to catch the following episode. Last episode made me wish I never saw it.

I even invited my friend who was skeptical about the show (he doesn't want to invest time into another show, he watches dozens) and what a horrible first impression. Flash's "don't you guys know who I am?" joke was probably the only one I laughed at.

The whole Eddie and Iris thing is annoying. Caytlan is fucking weird. And Felicity needs to keep her arrow jokes on her own show.

I really hope next week goes back to normal flash.

You are watching Flash which has Cisco who is constantly making remarks like that throughout the season, and yet Arrow is the bad one because of it?

I just watched the Trickster episode. I know you'll all have already reacted to it, but that's best casting/villain for reasons outside of the character I've seen in a long time. That Mark Hamill line was...amazing. I laughed louder than I have in a long time. And his Joker voice/laugh coming through...I knew it was going to be a good episode when I saw that he was in it, and I was right.

So how did deathblot get powers if he was not in central city at the time of the explosion

It lends to the idea that the accelerator explosion isn't the sole cause of Meta-Humans coming about, just as it wouldn't have been in the original time line where the particle accelerator wasn't build until 2020 and there was no "accident".

Hamill as the Trickster was just things coming around full circle, his role as the Trickster 25 years ago kinda sorta already had elements of what he'd turn into the Joker when he got that role and apparently is was his work with The Trickster in the 1990 Flash series that got him the Joker role.
