You know, the noses aren't that bad, once you get used to. It's like getting stuck on an island with women. Most of them are pretty hot, but they all got an ugly nose. You're starting to accept that and move on.

Who's the guy next to Kimi and Eric Asshole?

Lap times still not comparable, as the tires will greatly differ from last years, I expect.

The tyre types are also much closer to each other (I think Pirelli said just 0.8s difference per lap - half last year's values) so it will be much harder to see where the time is lost/gained during this week

09:00 There were reports of a part flying off the new Sauber during Kobayashi's earlier run. @eddstrawF1 has discovered that it was a small part of the rear brake duct and is now being repaired.

Koba breaking his car already :D

Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen said: 'My initial impressions are good, I fit comfortably in the car and it feels great in first and second gear; now let's see what it can do on Tuesday.'"

Kimi , you need more than two gears....

Why are Brawn's cars always so ugly?

Someone needs to remind him. He never got past the first to gears in WRC.

Performance has nothing to do with beauty. McLaren will learn it this year.

Wait...what?

I meant you shouldnt call last years mercedes ugly until you see this years one, cause it will probably be even worse :D

New mercedes doesnt launch until 21st Feb

1m19.670s from Kimi - faster than last years top Jerez time.

@StrangAutosport reports that Raikkonen was "inch perfect" through the final corner as he went to the top of the times.

He's back!

(I know its not possible to compare previous years times, but its still fun!)

"There is a certain amount of anxiety among fans of McLaren that their car is the only one so far not to feature a stepped 'platypus' nose. There is a rumour going around that this is all part of a cunning plan. The lower nose regulation was originally planned for 2011, but was delayed by a year. The rumour goes that McLaren built their 2011 chassis and crash structure to conform to the stepped nose regs and were effectively running it all last year - which would make McLaren months ahead of their rivals in optimising the aerodynamics of the new rules. I ran this by an experienced F1 engineer, and the response was: 'Sounds like a good story to cover up a bit of a screw-up.' Time will tell."

It's hard to read much from the time - but it does show that he has the hunger to do well.

How true do you guys think this quote from the Beeb is

Edit: Beaten by Orgun. But I hope there is some truth in it as I'm rather worried about the McLaren atm

Rookie of the year Daniel Ricciardo, TYVM.
Williams' tight rear end.

Lack of sponsors is disheartening.
Yeah, that is quite sad. The amount of sponsors is starting to remind me of the bottom-rung teams :(
Just like the team, but they're still doing a better job than Marussia, which is extremely surprising considering their shaky start. The next Minardi? I think not, but they'll probably be around for a while yet.
Hey. Without Minardi we wouldn't have Webber in F1.

Where is everyone seeing the times? Any feeds or live broadcasts?

Also, I really, really like the STR livery. The gold seems to suit the dark blue.

Winter testing is great. Every year fans get excited about seeing their team on top of the time sheets until reality kicks them in the nuts after the first qualifying of the season.

Last year the victims of the sandbagging was Williams and Ferrari. Lotus looks like the first candidate to that "award" this year.

Bit early to say if Lotus are sandbagging yet, Kimi is just back in the car & probably wants to push it a bit harder than most.

That's yesterday lol .. he wasn't allowed to use more than the first 2 gears

well, they've proved us wrong year after year after year.., not the best car in terms of performance, but its always up there challenging for wins and podiums :) ..

don't kid yourselves. everyone is sandbagging. the question is just how much.
looking at the laptime development of longer stints is more useful than looking at fastest laptime

To clarify, what exactly is this testing day... the first day they can take their cars on any kind of track, or just first public outing in (quasi) race conditions?

And the green wing... why's that used?

absolutely agree.. except that I think teams would like to take the car to the limit as well especially without the blown diffuser in slower corners.. ofcourse they can lift off in the straights a bit to lower their time..

Wish there was a sector-by-sector timing. That would've given us a better picture..

for now, Kimi is on the top of the list.. I'm happy :D

It wasn't green initially - it has gone that colour due to all the flow-viz paint

First day of testing, they can do what they want :p
Mainly just run the cars for the first time gather some data on how thier new car is working etc...

The wing is covred in viz flow paint, so they can see how the air is flowing over it.
