This is all there is if your interested.

As expected, it's not the 2012 car.
OK, so I have been in contact with HRT and that image is not the 2012 car. So stand down all those who were breathlessly excited about it

I've a feeling RBR are going to wipe the floor with everyone in Australia.

The speed the car has out of the box straight from unveiling is scary. Its like they just know its going to work and be very quick.
Comments said last week at Jerez it still has the crazy high speed grip like last year.

The only hope for Ferrari now will be to do a McLaren and copy RBR exhaust system and be best of the rest for Australia.

I think the best chance of someone beating RB will come if theres only one other top car. If Ferrari and McLaren get stuck in a year long fight for second place, taking points away from each other, then RB will walk away with it again.

Unfortunately I think the same thing for the WDC. Vettel will win easily if the McLaren drivers continue as they did last season taking points from each other instead of deciding early on who is their no.1 driver and make sure they maximise points for that person. Although Button and Hamilton are both top drivers and whoever isn't chosen as no.1 is likely to leave as soon as they can.

Lotus have been forced to cancel their running in today's test after discovering a problem with their new E20 chassis.

Trackside operations director Alan Permane explained: "This morning was our first shakedown of our second chassis. Once the car was on track it was soon evident that everything wasn't quite as it should be. As a precaution we are returning the chassis to Enstone for further investigation. Chassis E20-01, which we used in Jerez, is being sent over and we expect to be on track with that chassis tomorrow."

Here's a fascinating comparison. Mercedes used last year's car and last year's tires for the first day of Jerez testing so I went back and found their best time from the 2011 Jerez tests. I realize that the car had 12 months of development parts fitted, but it also had elements from the 2012 car underneath its skin. Is there anything to make of this?

Jerez 2011
Schumacher – 1:20.352

Jerez 2012
Rosberg – 1:20.219

I'd say not. First day of testing compared to the best last year. Didn't the tyres evolve throughout the year, too? Too many variables to really be able to get anything out of it. Weather, track conditions, training program, testing of parts, difference in tyres.

I'm pretty sure that Merc used this years tyres at the first test. On that basis you could say that the tyres offer equal lap time performance. Then again, like you said the 2012 time has a year of development, notably on the EBD, giving the car a good bit more downforce. So not a great deal to learn from this.

A RBR show combined with no BBC would have a bad impact on my interest this year. I'm not going to watch another year of Vettel running first all the time.

Scuderia.net is going bonkers right now. Those guys are so entertaining when Ferrari struggles.

I feel bad that they're wasting Fernando's prime with their incompetence. The car isn't looking good at all. Let's see if they can pull of a McLaren level turn around in Melbourne.

I hope that can sort themselves out soon. I would like to see Alonso get at least 1 more title before he retires.

Merc seems to have brought back that beautiful shade of burnt turquoise...

Nothing major I hope.

Would it be a book you (and other f1-gaf) recommend? Does it give a good feel on how F1 in general used to be, given it seems about the early 90s.

Edit: just noticed amazon has it on the look inside thing, maybe checking some pages will give me a better idea.
Sorry, this thread moves too fast!

Yeah, I really enjoyed it. It gave a good look into F1. I got it off half.com for cheap.

For the Lotus, yeah it must be something structural, or something that could jeopardize the safety of the drivers.

Seems pretty bad to me if they have to miss the whole freaking test...
Ferrari look as shitty as ever...

Ugh, Melbourne might be the same old RBR flying off into the distance...

It's not that bad, at least they can fix these chassis and not have to design and manufacture new ones.

you never know! pulling out completely means that they need full force to be back at Enstone to fix the huge fault.. I'm assuming its huge because of the decision..

as mentioned above, I can't even remember when was the last time a team decided to abandon testing because of a design flaw ..

Might be fundamental design flaw. But it is very strange that it wasn't picked up on as you said.

I'm thinking its a manufacturing error. The design would have gone through multiple tests and simulations so should be right.
