how does that new mclaren design look like though, im having a hards time imaging it.
The sidepods may be like the pods on this fighter jet I'd imagine.

To be honest, I don't know how accurate this rumour could be.

The rads needs to be a certain size in order to provide adequate cooling, and as the engines are frozen the cooling requirements are (more-or-less) the same year on year. And unless they've been running massively oversized radiators for years without realising then then they won't be able to make the radiators that much smaller.

Is this designed to stall the front wing or to feed the underfloor?

A bit of both, it'll affect the flow at the back of the wing then the beginning of the floor/plank. I have a better diagram in my 2011 Technical Review PDF on my server. PM me for details :)

Check out the Racecar Engineering mags too, really good!

I used to have a subscription to them, but never had time to read them properly so gave up on it. Still pick them up now and again though, good info about the technical stuff.

Read in one of the Autosport's that the main reason Brundle went to Sky was because they are going to do much more technical analysis than the BBC. The BBC never explained anything about the EBD this season and I'm sure a lot of people didn't know about it at all as a result.

So much exciting racing next year. Sucks that the Daytona 500 has been pushed back to the end of February because I always loved having it my birthday weekend.

Oh well, still looking forward to Indy this May. Should be exciting. And hopefully Austin in the fall *fingers crossed*

It's still something to look forward to I guess.

Also, found a 2011 fan-made season review, has a bunch of commentary in it, all HD, really well made. Not sure if it's already been posted, but here it is anyway.

Very very nice vid.. thanks

I like your taste..

Yeah but surely Vettel will reach his peak with tighter competition. He probably always has something in reserve with such a faster car.

I love watching Vettel race but you didn't get much of that last year because he was so far in front for the most part. I want to see him push to get past people/defend his position etc.

I never seen Vettel fight through a field. His only move that was remarkable was his pass on Alonso, forgot which race, but I think other drivers like Hamilton, Alonso and even Button would perform better in a bad car

Can someone loan me $20k?

Although if it's a wind tunnel model why would you bother painting it?

That's a rip-off, how many of those do they create per year?

Agreed.

Vettel is my fav driver on the grid too, but it's boring to see him alone on the front end all the time. I cant remember any overtake coming from him in 2011...

Silverstone 2010.

Vettel has made some great over takes this year, Button in Australia, Alonso in Italy...I can't think of any more, but his race craft is certainly there. Although we've yet to see Vettel and Hamilton go wheel-to-wheel when their tyres are equal.

That's because he's been leading most of the time.

I want to see him fighting for position lots more next year. It will be very interesting to see.

Don't be so stupid.

RB just need to create a car that is powered by sexual attraction. Mark will be a good 10 laps ahead of everyone by the first corner then.

To be honest I'm doubting if it is even a real wind tunnel model. First of why would they bother painting it at all? And all the sponsor logos, what's the point? Also I'd imagine wind tunnel models would be made of foam or something similar which you can easily mould into shape and modify without essentially having to make a new complete model. Never mind the cost and time required to make it out of carbon fibre in the first place.

That said it would still be a cool thing to have, although I have no idea where I would put it.

I got my two new Red Bull shirts yesterday. Pretty nice, I'll take pictures. I refuse to buy any Ferrari merchandise as most/all people assume it's either fake or you're a try hard. I want a rocket red McLaren shirt but $50 is steep for a relatively plain shirt.

@jakehumphreyf1: To answer your many questions...F1 still on the BBC, we cover every 2012 race and DC, EJ and I will front the coverage"

At least the dynamic trio hasn't been broken up :)

Button's missus is way hotter. Alonso loses out again.

Also, I just remembered the BBC review is on tomorrow afternoon. Perfect thing to watch as I fill my stomach with food before the onslaught of alcohol in the evening :) Gonna be good to see the gang all back together!

I'm reading this thread drunk. Alonsos woman is hot, but not that hot. And why wear a Ferrari shirt on a night out - tit.

Vettel can piss off, give me button in a fighter jet (i doubg mclaren will do the same miatake twice with being too experimental) with Webber as his.wingman.

I want my train to hurry up.

Totally forgot about that, just stuck it on record there now! Cheers.

Adrian Newey finally gets some much deserved recognition.
On the racetrack Adrian Newey, the technical director behind the Formula One world champion, Sebastian Vettel, was awarded an OBE for services to motorsport, while Nigel Mansell, the F1 world champion in 1992, received a CBE, not for any feats behind a steering wheel, but for his role as president of the charity UK Youth, which promotes non-formal learning for young people.

Adrian Newey OBE, I salute you.

Considering there are more people in Ferrari shirts in the picture, it was probably taken at some Ferrari event.

You're awesome drunk. Come to Melbourne next year for the race.

Ah, so that was what I posted last night.... sorry about that.

Heh, I would love to but I'm not sure my liver would compare to true grit of Aussie livers. I'm definitely doing Melbourne for a future race however - maybe 2013. This year it's either Singapore or Silverstone (depends on my finances, burglary hasn't helped).

More like "I've never asked for this".

So, in light of Newey's OBE and Head's retirement, who is the greatest of all the F1 designers.

Colin Chapman
Adrian Newey
Rory Byrne
Gordon Murray
Patrick Head

Colin Chapman. All of them are great engineers which have built unstoppable cars, but Chapman took F1 to another level.

Chapman I think. They are all great though.
