Is there no water runoff on this track AT ALL? When you can see pools of water in a tiny fucking animated gif, something is seriously wrong.

This track is ridiculous at getting rid of water. It stopped raining during the second practice session and still there wasn't a chance in hell of anyone getting any laps in with the dry tyres. Would have expected there to be a racing line dry enough after an hour of F1 cars on the track with no rain.

Drainage system is very poor, we saw that last year on long straight, where water just bounced from the fences...
Also, whole racetrack is build on swampy ground and we all known that swamps are known for standing water.

That pit exit is so stupidly placed. I remember we talked about it last year and that bump with Rosberg just proves it.

Looks like two boring practice sessions from the highlights. Seemed like hardly anyone was in the crowd, too.

If it's so wet we spend half the race behind a SC like last year then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Jean-Eric Vergne on his baptism of fire.
"Free Practice 1 was the first time I have driven this car. The last time I drove a Toro Rosso was last year at the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi. I admit that I was not so happy when I opened the curtains this morning and saw the rain. I found this morning session quite difficult because of the very wet track conditions, although I am happy with what I have done, because I didn't crash the car and I had some fun as well. It is difficult to judge how I did, because normally in a session like this, you get two runs with time in between to look at the data and see how to improve, but the weather meant that was not possible this morning. I had nothing to compare myself with and I definitely am not comparing my performance to any other drivers today. It was just a case of getting some experience and learning a bit more about how the team operates. Whatever the track conditions, I am pleased to have been given the opportunity, even if I did not get many laps completed. It means I will now be better prepared when I get back in the car for FP1 at Abu Dhabi."

I have high hopes for Jean-Eric. It's been far too long since we've had a French world champion, yet alone a Frenchman challenging for wins. I'm not expecting him to be the Sébastien Loeb of F1, but certainly a title challenger given the right car.

Yo, yo! Alonso MC is in da house!

On another note:

I'm letting my B-Spec driver in Gran Turismo 5 drive the Formula GT and it's really fun. Because everyone is in the same car, it makes the races a bit more difficult, so I have to observe the lap times, tire wear, try not to push him too hard, because he's fairly young and inexperienced and his physical and mental strength will go down the toilet and I have to think when to pit. It's nowhere near close to F1, but it makes we wish we had a proper F1 Manager for the PC.

Should be good times ahead for french supporters. The like of JEV, Bianchi, Grosjean and the Pic brothers all 'could' have long f1 careers ahead of them

Korea FP1 and FP2? Nah, Toyota's new 2012 LMP1 car is far more interesting thank you very much.

Toyota announces 2012 Le Mans return with hybrid LMP1 car.

The MP4/10 was hideous, especially with that silly wing tacked on to the back of the airbox. It was also a terrible car on the track.

Not as nice as the Benetton, but I think it still looks fine ;) There aren't many F1 cars that I don't like the look of, although Virgin & HRT do manage to fall under that.

You really liked the 2008 McLaren?

That thing? It looks like a space ship. The 2008 era cars all looked aggressive, as if they were punching through the air with a machete, whereas the 2009 era cars all look like they're dancing through the air.

Although I will admit that I prefer the F2008 over the MP4/23.

Doesn't answer the question. ;)

Can't decide whether to go to sleep and risk oversleeping or to stay up and stay tired.Weather conditions should make qualifying exciting.

Might just get up at 6:30 GMT.

It won't be the full thing, but should give me enough time to see most of the action.

I'll miss the pre-qualifying stuff, but I'll probably watch that later on the iPlayer.

7pm FP3, 10pm qualy here.
I actually really like it when the F1 circus leaves Europe for flyaway races. It reminds me of my childhood and waking up early to watch the likes of Senna, Prost, Mansell, Schumacher and Hakkinen.

I can certainly sympathise with everyone from the Americas and Australasia etc, during the European leg of the season.

Best coast high five!

Actually the time doesn't really matter much to me for the races since I download the BBC broadcast and watch at my leisure. I still need to go back and watch the Canada black flag session for bird watching, lol.

My friend keeps insisting that Bruno Senna is good. Seeing him spin again in this session made it even better.

edit: Holy shit laughing hard at this Vettel - Alguersuari exchange.

edit 2: Well I hope McLaren can take a pole, but after Vettel getting cockblocked I think he's got the rage to do it again. :/

Only managed to watch the last few minutes. Alguersuari and Schumacher not moving for anyone. Mclaren look like they could be on pole, they looked very fast. Ferrari still slow as shit.

It amazes me how Bernie thinks he can do deals with all these new nations to let them host Grands Prix and people will just automatically flock to the races without any real effort to entice them. No matter what we think about the product, it's just not enough to be a good draw on its own. We need Bernie and FOM and the race organisers to do a lot more to entice potential new fans and viewers otherwise there is absolutely no point in heading to all of these brand new locations.

Take Korea. Koreans are renowned for being major internet addicts. What do F1 and FOM have in the way of anything online? A single shoddy website with musical highlight clips. That's it. No live streaming, no official video archive service, no interesting behind-the-scenes features or videos and nothing else that would appeal to an ultra-modern, tech-savvy generation. Series like NASCAR, MotoGP, IndyCar etc recognise how important it is to help make your product as available as possible using all the means available to you. Bernie is completely failing to recognise that the way he does and has done business throughout his time in charge of F1 is now holding the sport back and harming its interests.

If you want to chase developing markets and secure the long-term future and success of your product and business, you have to adapt with the times. Formula 1 isn't doing that.
Look at how empty the grandstands are here. Look at how Turkey failed. Why should we expect India to be any different, even if they do have a *ahem* "home team"?

Bernie's business model may be sound but his way of doing business is just not working for Formula 1 these days. He needs to go in my view.

I just started watching, were Brundle and Coulthard just shitting on Tilke and his track designs for a few minutes there? I heard there were issues with the pit exit being in a pretty poor spot.

These red lined supersofts look like shit, if they are going to be red it needs to be brighter or something.

Red bulls on supersoft and slow? What are they playing at?

I still don't get what AT&T get out of sponsoring Williams......

I was wondering that too, this track is really sad, DC said the bins had not even been emptied since the last race. This isnt the image that comes to mind when i think F1.
