Yeah, I know. I could understand it a bit, if he was a good driver, but admiring him just like that? Nah.Psychotext said:Webber fans.

That has to be troll bait.

Winning the championship isn't the only factor in being a good driver. You just have to look at his overtake on Alonso at Spa or something to see that Webber is an utter beast. Absolute top tier? Maybe not, but let's not kid ourself, he has serious talent.brotkasten said:As great as he is, he's the next Rubens if he doesn't pull a Button next season.
Rubens was a good driver, too. Getting destroyed by his teammate in the same car makes those nice overtakes look insignificant. He didn't even win one single race this season, whereas Vettel already secured the WDC with the same car. At least he was always in the top 5, but then again, who will remember Mark Webber's 2011 season? Nobody, that's who.Foliorum Viridum said:Winning the championship isn't the only factor in being a good driver. I do think he has a WC in him, too. Whether or not it will happen is a different matter.
If we ignore his amateurish starts, then yes, maybe that was a bit too much. Mark certainly has the balls, but he needs to get his shit together. He's one of the most sympathetic guys in the sport and I don't want him to end up in some mid-tier team like Mercedes or Force India.Foliorum Viridum said:What you're arguing is completely different to "if he was a good driver".
Now that would be a good idea, really. You'd kill two birds with one stone. Mark could be happy at McL and Lewis could finally stop bitching about not having the same car as Vettel. It would be great to watch.Foliorum Viridum said:My soppy outlook is I just want to see him happy. He doesn't seem that at Red Bull at the moment.
Get him in a Mclaren with JB and I bet he'd have a constant smile.

Probably somewhere in-between.S. L. said:a. the car actually doesn't have any advantage, Vettel is just insanely good and Webber an average driver.
b. the car has an advantage, Webber just sucks.
Webber doesn't suck all the time, he just sucks some times (starts for example) and that puts him in a hole he can't climb out of. Look how well the RB7 does when it is out in front of the pack with clean air.S. L. said:day 1?
Webber easily is the most disappointing driver this season, his teammate had the title pretty much in the bag halfway trough the season and it doesn't look like he'll manage even second at the end of the season.
which leads to:
a. the car actually doesn't have any advantage, Vettel is just insanely good and Webber an average driver.
b. the car has an advantage, Webber just sucks.
You know what? That's pretty much what it comes down to for me as well. He's an immensely likeable driver and he's in a team where he gets to drive an amazing car yet the team seems more (at least emotionally) invested in Vettel. His driving skills *may* warrant being treated as a number two driver (though obviously, I strongly disagree) but IMO, his work attitude and off-track personality certainly don't.Foliorum Viridum said:My soppy outlook is I just want to see him happy. This weekends 2011 Korean Grand Prix marks the 700th Formula 1 race for McLaren, which celebrated its 174th victory at Suzuka courtesy of Jenson Button.
Established by Bruce McLaren, the New Zealander took the team to its first race win at the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix, with Emerson Fittipaldi clinching the first Drivers Championship for the now Woking-based outfit in 1974.
The team has housed a number of World Champion drivers and famed Team Principals Teddy Mayer and Ron Dennis before current head Martin Whitmarsh took the reigns in 2009.
McLaren sits third for Constructors Championship wins on eight, behind only Ferrari and Williams and having last triumphed in 1998.
McLaren Formula 1 statistics at a glance:
699 race starts
174 Grand Prix wins
146 pole positions
148 fastest laps
465 podium finishes
318 front row starts
350,056 kilometres raced
48,113 kilometres in the lead
10,153 laps in the lead
4,223.5 Constructors points

http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2011/10/12642.htmlQ: (Frederic Ferret - LEquipe) Sebastian and Fernando: last year the track was nearly ready for the Grand Prix, have you seen any improvements to the track this year and are you happy with them, if there are any?
SV: I think generally there hasnt been a lot going on since we left, but they obviously made some changes, for instance, at the last corner they moved the wall so its a little bit better to see, a bit easier for us. The pit entry becomes a bit more visible - things that were a little bit borderline last year are a bit better this year but other than that The circuit was ready just in time last year. Obviously theyve had a year break to finish everything if there were some things still to be finished. As I said, it looked unchanged in many ways. I dont know how much racing has been going on so for sure we will see a lot of track improvement throughout the weekend.
