Random question for the more knowledgeable F1 fans...

...back in the days of Schumi / Ferrari domination there was an engineer in the pit crew who always seemed to appear on camera / in celebrations. He had a rather distinctive face and a particularly distinctive moustache / beard.

I'm trying to find out who he is (I don't think he's with Ferrari any more) but I'm struggling even to find photos of him. If I can't find any of him soon I'll have a painful scan through the season reviews to see if I can find him in there.

I know who you are talking about, can't remember his name though.

Hnnnnnnnnnnnng!!! next year can't come soon enough!

The above image is a view of T1 from the start/finish straight at Circuit of the Americas

That's going a bit off topic.

But long story short, there's really nothing there I particularly want to see, and there are aspects of US culture which I really don't like. Put it down to me being a reserved Brit or something. :)

You're surprised? CVC Capital signed a deal a few years ago to be F1's commercial rights holder for 100 years.

Qatar taking control of Silverstone for 150 years is all good and dandy, until they run out of oil.

And Bernie will still be on the grid; his brain transferred into a cybernetic body.
Nah, his head will be conserved in a glass, Futurama style. And Brundle will get the job to carry him around. That way we can still have our grid talks with Martin.

I'm imagining Martin with Bender's body (a la Nixon) carrying Bernie around the pits. Ahahaha.

F1 GAF, which V10 engine sound was your favorite? I'm reading an old discussion on another website and one guy gave his impressions after hearing it firsthand:

Mercedes - quiet, could listen without earplugs all day long.
Honda - extremely LOUD
Ferrari - nothing out of the ordinary
Toyota - very low pitched harmonic; my favorite
Renault - similar to the Toyota, not as much of the low harmonic
BMW - unmistakable baritone under decel

Not to say any of that is true, since its just the guy's opinion :p

I'll put it down to you being an ignorant stereotypist. :)

Sadly no, that's not the one. He's the only one I could find with endless searches for beard etc too.

The guy I was thinking of was bald / skinhead with a very striking black moustache / beard.

Whatever works for you. Like I said, it's rather off topic and not something I could explain in a couple of lines.

Gino wasn't an engineer. He was a quebecer with a high school diploma that begged Ferrari for months to be hired for any job they had. He ended buying groceries for them in Montreal and went all the way to chief of logistic responsible to moving everything between grand-prix. He is now one of the vice president at lotus.

Any of these guys?

Brazil 08.

Well I just finished watching this race and my god, I had goosebumps watching those last 3 laps. It was like watching a movie, just so awesome for Lewis. Damn it makes me mad I waited so long to get back into Formula 1, I would do anything to be able to go back and relive that moment as it happened. I don't even know what race to watch next. I feel like I've just seen the best there is and no other race will compare.

It was incredible to watch at the time.

I could hear our neighbours cheering as well when he took the championship.

Yeah, it was my second season of F1 I fully watched and it's probably one of my dearest motorsport memories.

I finally saw "Senna" on Monday night. I wanted to see it at the cinema but kept putting it off for reasons that will shortly become apparent. It was pretty hard to watch at the end.

We never had a TV when I when I was a little kid because my parents were convinced that it would rot our minds. One summer in the early 90s, I went to Wales to visit my Grandparents and I got to watch my first ever Formula 1 (actually the qualifying). I was hooked and entranced by this driver in a red and white car with a yellow helmet. I started obsessively listening to F1 on the radio and became a massive Senna fan. I had model cars, I had books, I had the radio and I had my imagination.

And then in 1994, on May the 1st I learned what death actually means (as opposed to it being an abstract concept that happens in stories to the bad guys) and my world was torn apart. I stopped paying attention to F1. I've never forgiven Williams. I never saw the actual crash because I had no way of doing so.

I started watching F1 a few years ago and it's different. I don't love the sport obsessively like I did as a child, because I can also watch other motorsport (the BTCC), and the last season has massively eroded my interest (mostly DRS if I'm honest).

I found it really hard to watch "Senna". I actually felt my heart pounding in my chest as the film drew to a close, because I knew I was about to actually see for the first time the thing that opened my childhood eyes to the reality of the horror of death. I was pretty upset afterwards.

I don't think I've ever heard his named been mentioned, you could try looking up Scuderia Ferrari personnel lists, but that would be very tedious to say the least.

I remember reading F1-GAF back then, it was pretty much the same as it is now.

Also I'm having visions of a GTA game based around F1.

Bernie being the main gang leader of course.

I feel you. I was born in Brazil and Senna was my hero; it was very hard watching it for me as well. On the plus side, it had a cathartic effect: I was dreading the end of the movie, I cried watching it but I felt the movie gave me some closure. After 17 years of ignoring the sport I started following F1 races again. I guess I was avoiding being exposed to the sport and the movie forced me to do it again.

I'm glad it did, I've been enjoying watching the practices, races, and thanks to you guys the BBC coverage as well. I admit it was a bit weird seeing the first race and learning about KERS and DRS...what is this, Ridge Racer? ;P

It's pretty funny that we got a game-like turbo boost in F1. The effect will be even bigger, when they double the power.

So word has it that Williams are going to reveal a new deal with the Qatar national back worth $30 Million. Half of which will go to Raikkonen

15 million for Kimi in his current state? That's insane.

Doubtful. I don't see a big comeback from him, especially not in a Williams. He can be lucky that Ruben's time is over, otherwise I don't see which team could've offered him a seat. Again, we're talking about 15 million here. That's Ferrari salary.

e: In 2010 he got €16 million from Ferrari. That's €2M more than Massa got in the same year.
